ActionScript :: Flash - Loading External Programatically Created SWF?

Aug 23, 2011

i've never had to do any cross scripting until now and i'm running into a (probably really stupid) error right at the start.

External SWF:i've created a new ActionScript 3.0 project in Flash Professional CS5. on the first frame i've added the following script:

[Code]...

perhaps i'm misunderstanding the nature of cross scripting or loading external swf files, but i can only seem to make this work if i've manually drawn display objects on the stage and not if the external swf's display objects are generated by code.is it not possible to load external swfs that are programatically created and add them to the display list of a main swf?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Loading External Jpgs Into A Dynamically Created MC?

May 18, 2009

Essentially, I've got a MC container that's created dynamically based off an XML file (basically for every <title></title> I've got, it makes a new "card"). Now within the context of each <title></title> grouping I've got <imgs></imgs> in which I specify the path to images that are related.All of that works perfectly, save for the external jpg files actually appearing on the stage. The MC I add them to does, but the external image doesn't.My problem is- I can't add the external images until they're completely loaded (or so it appears). The thumbnail BG I use is blank. So I know for a fact that the thumbnail BG isn't occluding the loaded thumbnails.

Flash :: Programatically Swap Objects?

Aug 16, 2011

I basically have this and what I need to do, is when the user clicks on one of those boxes on the right, it'll appear in the yellow box on the left.

Each of those right boxes will be unique with different graphics. It'll basically be different graphics to be displayed on a T-shirt, which will be represented by the big black square.

Now I know that each of those graphics should be a button symbol with mouse click event, but I'm not really sure how to handle the event.

Should I just create a clone of that item and move it to the target area? Or is it possible to create some kind of blank placeholder where I could just display it?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create External Files From A SWF/exe/app File Created In Flash?

May 16, 2011

I'm currently trying to find out how to create external files from a SWF/exe/app file created in Flash. Essentially I'm building a program to create templates for levels in a game. The SWF will be run locally (e.g. not online) and will allow the user to add/remove objects to a level of their design. They then need to be able to save the level template (ideally I need to be able to save as a JSON* file, but I'm sure I could get away with just a simple txt file) somewhere on their computer. These templates will them be imported by the game itself (not written in Flash, hence why I need to save the data as a json or txt file), which will then re-create the levels from the data contained in the save file.

I had assumed this would be something that was really simple to do, but I cannot seem to find any tutorials or information on how to create external files. I can find plenty on reading from existing external files, but nothing about actually writing a new file entirely. I have read a few people complaining that non-local Flash SWFs cannot access the user's hard drive for security reasons, but cannot find any information on local SWFs.

If anyone could tell me even roughly what I'm looking for, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm a bit stuck just now haha *I have downloaded the corelib files which allow me to work with JSON files

ActionScript 3.0 :: System Resource Use - Flash Created Vs Photoshop Created?

Mar 14, 2009

I have only one question but phrased it 3 ways:

1) Is it better to pre=render things say in photoshop or have flash render them?

2) if I have a field of stars that drift along; is it better to create that Star Field in photoshop as a single picture (say a .png) or to create a star in my library and add it to a movie clip and then have that drift along?

Lets say I have a blur effect on my stars and have an equivalent on the photoshop.

3) I have heard (and experienced) adding effects like blur takes a fair amount of CPU and memory so was wondering if I created the effect in photoshop and then imported the 'blurred' object into my flash if I could cut down on system resources?

I rewrote the Flash using components and the same thing happens. So, I'm thinking it has something to do with how Captivate makes the .swf.

I could repeat all the code within the TextField.onPress event again within the external swf file but I thought it would be a lot easier just to programatically click the TextField again.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Loading Images In Dynamically Created MC?

Jun 15, 2007

i'm trying to load a series of external jpg images. What to be loaded is stored in an external xml file, which indicates the folder along with the file name pattern and the number of images. This is handy since images are numbered incrementally (image_1.jpg, image_2.jpg...) Finally, i need to position these images as a strip, that is, one next to each other horizontally.

I get the info out of the xml file without issue, the url are correct (if i paste them in the browser, i see the image file) yet, it seems there is an issue with my loading mc code.

function doStrip(obj:XML)
{
var project = obj.firstChild;
var sequences = project.childNodes;

Actionscript :: Programatically Turn Text Into A Circle In It?

Aug 28, 2009

Way to take a piece of text and make it go around the edge of a line that is warped? (specifically, circular, but I'm sure once it's following the line, the shape is not relevant). I can't find a good resource for how to do this. I assume I'll need to create separate movie clips for each character and then rotate, and position, but I'm having a hard time finding a resource for how to do this.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Loading And Viewing XML When A Class Object Is Created?

Oct 5, 2009

I have writing a simple class which has a method that gets invoke when the object of the class is created. I am able to view the loaded XML content when I trace it with in my class method, but cannot assign the content to a instance variable using the mutator method. So the process goes like this:

Class object is instantiated Class construtor then calls the loadXML method which laods the XML And then assigns the XML to a class instance variable.

So now if I would like to access the loaded XML through class object, I should be able to see the loaded xml content which I am not able to see. I have spent over few hours and cannot get the class object to display the loaded XML content. .

[code]

package com.as3.app{    import flash.display.*;    import flash.events.*;    import flash.text.*;    import flash.net.*;
