View 3 RepliesIt's probably a no brainer, but I've spent the last 40 minutes or so looking for it to no avial.
I have a Canvas control with a fixed width and a horizontal scrollbar.I'm trying to find the actual width of the control.The .width (fixed width) + the part being revealed by the scrollbar.I tried explicitWidth, width + maxHorizontalScrollPosition, and some other combos but non of them hit the spot.
I am looking at the SimpleButton entirely wrong. Here's what I'm doing (inside of a MovieClip):
[Code]...
the close_btn.width and height remain 0. Am I supposed to just rely on the DisplayObject members of the SimpleButton completely and ignore width/height/x/y or what?
is there a way to make a minimum width and stop resize? I have a menu I am building that is locked to the bottom of the browser and 3 buttons on the left and a movieClip on the right. When you resize the browser window - currently - you can make the button on the right sink under the three on the left.

I've got a TileList with verticalScrollPolicy="on".
Is there a property that returns the width of the tileList minus the width of the scrollbar?
how to get a movieclip named "topnav" to resize it's width to match that of the stage. I am trying to resize the width of a top nav bar across a resizable RIA. I have started with the following code but with only partial success:
Code:
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeListener);
function resizeListener (e:Event):void {
var reg2 = stage.stageWidth / 100;
[Code].....
Is there a function or property or better way to do what the following code do?
var width:int = 20
while (textField.defaultTextFormat.size > 1 && textField.width > width) {
textField.defaultTextFormat.size--
}
I am creating a nav in flex that pulls in buttons dynamically from xml. THe problem i am having is setting the button width to the text width. currently the buttons are all the same width and if the text is larger then it just cuts off. I've tried a few ways of doing this:Setting button width to 100%On creation of the button try to set the width of the button to the text programmatically. Something like evt.target.width = evt.target.textWidth;
View 1 RepliesRunning into strange behaviour with flex 3.5. Here is a minimal code:build.xml target:
<target name="player">
<mxmlc
file="${APP_ROOT}/player.mxml"
[code].....
trace ("The Width is: " + stage.width + "."); trace ("The Height is: " + stage.height + "."); The Width is: 0. The Height is: 0. Why is it Zero instead of the document's size ?
View 2 Repliesis there a way to dynamically change the width of swf, accordingly to width of browser?
everybody hates horizontal scroll, but i don't want my flash movie to be tiny
PHP Code:
request = new URLRequest(gameURL); loader = new Loader();loader.load(request);loader.contentLoaderInfo.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE,imgLoaded); loader.

Once I've set either the width or percentWidth property on a flex label, is there a way to reset the width to its default (i.e., the width of the text plus padding)? I'm using the label as a renderer. In some cases, I'd like it to automatically size to the text, and in other cases, I'd like it to be a percentage width of its container. Obviously, I could use two separate labels, one for each of the above cases, but I'm curious if it's possible to reset the label to its default behavior.
View 2 Repliesis it possible to make the child elements of a vbox to occupy 100% of the width without indicating width=100% for each element ?
View 3 RepliesI am trying to reference to top level (stage) width and height of the main stage for the placement of something located inside a movieclip on the stage.
My code is:
Code:
my_loader.x = (stage.stageWidth - my_loader.width)/2;
my_loader.y = (stage.stageHeight - my_loader.height)/2;
But this seems to just relate to the width/height of the mc that my_loader is nested in...
I have tried the following and had no luck:
stage.stage.stageWidth
root.stage.stageWidth
parent.stage.stageWidth
MovieClip(root).stage.stageWidth
i want to load external images of different height and width into same height and width.
View 3 RepliesI have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)

View 0 RepliesI would like to use a movieclip to load a flv video. The problem I have is that I want to change the video dimensions. I've tried several software to change the video dimensions but as far as it seems all of them keep the same height-width ratio than in the original video. Is there any software that would allow me to change the height and width without keeping the same height/width ratio as in the original video file?
View 1 RepliesIs there a way to set the width of a text field equal to the width of the text in it?
View 1 RepliesI have a flash banner graphic that I created at 1000px wide by 420px tall. I want this to be fluid and fill the browser width, so that when the browser is rescaled the swf fills the horizontal space. My problem is that there is content below it that needs to touch it, but the height is trying to fill 100% so it is creating vertical space between the flash content and the div below it.
I guess a better way to describe it is that I don't want to define the height I just want the width to be 100%. At 100% height there is unused space so I need to make the height maybe undefined or something smaller then 100%?Also, if you make the browser too small vertically the width will not fill. So I want 100% width regardless of the browser height.
i need to set the width of a textbox. But somehow "textbox.width = 300;" doesn't work.
View 3 RepliesHow do I set the width and height of my swf in AS3?
This is my code so far:
package {
import flash.display.Sprite;
public class Game extends Sprite {
}
}
Right now, when loaded it is at some arbitrary default size.
If I can't change the size this way, is there any easy work around that will be consistent?
The best idea I had was getting the bounding box width, looping through that with point tests, and returning the number of hits
View 1 RepliesFrom what I understand, creating an empty movieclip with new MC() should allow you to explicitly define the width and height no problem. Well, once again, logic doesn't prevail, and something is missing.
[Code]..
I am having an issue with pulling width and height from an external swf.
I can load it ok, and place it ok, but I want to shrink it when I place it and that is where the problem occurs. Here is the abridged code. The odd thing is that if I move the width and height lines inside the function, it works. Trouble is every time you click that tab the swf shrinks a little more.
Code:
//------------------Calling the external SWF and loading it-------------
var myRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest ("images/filter.swf");
var myLoader:Loader = new Loader();
[Code].....
my .swf goes full screen and changes proportion if it is accessed directly at it's url
[URL]
is it possible to tell how big it currently is? i'd like to reposition some elements accordingly...
I'm trying to change the position of a movieclip I've added to the stage. When I try to access stage.width or stage.height I get 0. I've tried MovieClip(root).stage, DisplayObject(root).stage, root.stage, stage, and simply width and height. All of these are equal to zero.
View 1 RepliesI want to write a shell that creates instances of an app and scales it down for animating. Well, I created my shell class and instanced the app and set scales for x and y and then I traced the height and width because I wasn't sure what they'd be. I thought they'd be based on the stuff on the stage or whatever, but they both came up zero. So I'm not sure how that works, am I supposed to have set those values?
[Code]....
I'm putting a flash site together with a stage size of 800 x 600px but I have a background image that I want to use in the same Flash file, the size = 1350x800px(jpg) that I want to stretch/compress to whatever screen resolution the viewer has. So I need 100% width & height, I've gone through the forums but can't figure this out.I'm on Flash 8, Win 7 and Dreamweaver 8.
