Oct 6, 2009i need to set the width of a textbox. But somehow "textbox.width = 300;" doesn't work.

Feb 10, 2011I'd like to restrict the amount a user can type into a textbox based on the width of an existing textbox on the stage. I played around with the max chars but when you type something like a 'W' it is considerably wider than something like a 'i' (current font is 19px vs 4px wide). I was playing around with .textWidth, but wasn't sure how to use that value to restrict the textbox.

Jan 5, 2011I'm attempting to draw a text box on the screen. If I assign width and height to any value, as in the code below, I don't see anything drawn. Why is this? What is the use of width and height? Adobe's docs say it's the width/height of the sprite in pixels. Why would that occlude or prevent the drawing of a textbox or another box? I assumed the width/height would set the area that this sprite could be drawn upon, but based on this, I'm probably wrong.

basically sending and recieving variables from a php page. I want to be able to specify what my textbox on frame 5 says in the onLoad statement. Is this possible?
Currently the only way I have been able to get the text to display is either to use the textbox variable and declare that in the onload statement, or to put textbox.text = mylogin.message; on the actual frame.I doubt there is a way to do it, because the actual textbox hasn't be created yet, but if there were a way, that would be nice.

Oct 12, 2009Once I've set either the width or percentWidth property on a flex label, is there a way to reset the width to its default (i.e., the width of the text plus padding)? I'm using the label as a renderer. In some cases, I'd like it to automatically size to the text, and in other cases, I'd like it to be a percentage width of its container. Obviously, I could use two separate labels, one for each of the above cases, but I'm curious if it's possible to reset the label to its default behavior.

Mar 8, 2010I have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)

Apr 22, 2009I've been working with Flash for over 3 years, but I can't figure this one out. I've got a body of text, half of which are bulleted points designated by <li></li>. It's loaded into a html-ised dynamic textbox.

It displays fine as is. However, if I make the box selectable, and select any part of the bulleted list, the ENTIRE body of text turns into a giant bulleted list, including the non-bulleted portion at the beginning. I've managed to replicate this bug with Flash 8 and CS3, using a variety of flas made from scratch.
