It's probably a no brainer, but I've spent the last 40 minutes or so looking for it to no avial.
I have a Canvas control with a fixed width and a horizontal scrollbar.I'm trying to find the actual width of the control.The .width (fixed width) + the part being revealed by the scrollbar.I tried explicitWidth, width + maxHorizontalScrollPosition, and some other combos but non of them hit the spot.
How do I find the total maximum width and height of a movie clip with respect to every frame of that movie clip?
So for instance if the movie clip was circles of radius 5 registered at their center at various positions where:
frame 1:circle.x=-30
frame 2:circle.x=0
frame 3:circle.x=30
The total maximum width of movie clip would be 30--30+5+5=70.
My artist drew a beautiful island but it's 5000 in width. We scroll it as it's for a Virtual World. - it's in layers and we scroll the different layers at different speeds. Flash documentation states that the limit is 2880 BUT it does work in the player i.e.: you can see the full island but it does run a little slow.
Should I
a. Create a smaller island of 2880 which is a shame as I would have to get rid of a lot of good stuff
b. Split it into two images and dynamically connect them with code.
Also, I have different layers scrolling at different speeds which would make things more difficult to look natural.
I'm programmatically creating a spark BorderContainer in ActionScript and filling it with a few labels. After I make it visible, it's width is 298 pixels. However, I only know this because I'm taking a screenshot and measuring the width. If I trace() the width, or explicitWidth, or measuredWidth, or getExplicitOrMeasuredWidth(), or getLayoutBoundsWidth() ... ad nauseum ... the reported width is always 42 pixels. Without fail. how the hell I can get the width that is visible on the screen? It's absolutely ridiculous how easy this should be, but isn't.
View 1 RepliesI have a ScrollPane with two textfields and UIScrollbars. I set the dimensions so that everything fits in the ScrollPane width-wise perfectly (i.e. without the horizontal scroll bar appearing). However, the horizontal scroll bar does appear. When I scroll to the right, there is nothing additional there. If I remove the UIScrollbars, the bar disappears, so theres the root.
If I trace the objects under the mouse in that empty space I get:

My assumption is that there is a non-visible component of the UIScrollbar that is inside the container Sprite. Based on what I know of the UIScrollBar's components, I am thinking it is the focus Rectangle, but I have no idea if that's accurate or how to test it. All I know is whatever is causing the problem appears to be exactly 100 pixels wide. Is there a way to set a maximum width of a Sprite or remove the horizontal scroll bar of a scrollpane? If not, is there any other creative means to get rid of my horizontal scroll bar?
In many cases the pieces have artifacts outside of their visible area. For example, a piece can have a picture of a dog's face, but one of the long ears is off to the side, outside the visible region of the piece. The path data is extremely detailed, so our designers didn't crop it off. They used a mask (at least I think it's a mask, I'm not a graphics guy and know little about that stuff) and this makes it invisible in Flash, when we turn them into movie clips. I've got the following situation, where I have an outer Vbox that is set at a fixed width, and then inside it there is a header made from an HBox and a content area (Canvas) that is much wider than the enclosing VBox (and therefore requires scrollbars on the outer VBox to see it all).
I would like to set the width of the header to fill the entire width of the outer container, but only the visible part, and to remain fixed so that when I scroll to view the content, the header doesn't move.

the close_btn.width and height remain 0. Am I supposed to just rely on the DisplayObject members of the SimpleButton completely and ignore width/height/x/y or what?
is there a way to make a minimum width and stop resize? I have a menu I am building that is locked to the bottom of the browser and 3 buttons on the left and a movieClip on the right. everybody hates horizontal scroll, but i don't want my flash movie to be tiny
When I publish my FLV video using Flash CS3 and the "SkinUnderAll" option...the player controls are not visible unless I change the height & width in the html file Flash created.But, Flash shows the height & width 3-times in the html.
Question-1: Why 3-times? What does each of the 3 Height & Width references do?
Question-2: How should I modify the code to be able to see the entire video and the player controls?
It seems if I change all 3 everything just gets bigger and bigger.
1 - I import it into Flash CS3 on a PC w/XP Pro using... File | Import | Video take all the defaults and choose "Skin Under All" as the player option.
2 - In "Properties" panel at bottom of screen Flash shows the video as 640x480
3 - I then click File | Publish to publish the video. Flash creates all my files for me.

5 - The video plays but the player controls are not visible.

7 - I try changing the 550x400 to 640x480 in all three places... no good. Even at 1000x1000 the entire player is not visible. Everything just gets larger.
What are each of the 3 references to Height and Width in the html file Flash Creates and which should I change to simply show all the player controls?

Once I've set either the width or percentWidth property on a flex label, is there a way to reset the width to its default (i.e., the width of the text plus padding)? I'm using the label as a renderer. In some cases, I'd like it to automatically size to the text, and in other cases, I'd like it to be a percentage width of its container. Obviously, I could use two separate labels, one for each of the above cases, but I'm curious if it's possible to reset the label to its default behavior.

View 3 RepliesI have a Movieclip on stage with nested movieclips inside. All referenced at 0,0. None of the child movieclips load any dynamic content, animate or have Masked Layers. It does have an input textfield in one of the child MCs. The parent MC shows 280 px width, while it returns 313 px with a .width trace. There is no code that alters the .width value of the parent MC at run-time. And the ParentMC on stage is not scaled (it is at 100% width/height)
