Actionscript 3.0 :: Displaying Items Of An Array As Buttons / Playlist
Jul 27, 2009
I have a project I am working on and I am stuck on this. I have an array that holds songs. I want to somehow print these items out and make them buttons so that when I click on it, it will call a function. For proof of concept, i will just make my own code here and you guys can give me insight:
Code: Select all
var a:Array = new Array("song1.mp3", "song2.mp3", "song3.mp3", "song4.mp3");
Now i want this to firstly display:
song1.mp3
song2.mp3
song3.mp3
song4.mp3
I tried a for loop and a dynamic text field but that just overwrites itself. Next, it would be nice if it could add an event listener or call a function loadSong(curentSong[1]) ===with whatever position it is in the array between the brackets==
i have created a list extracted from an xml document. the list is displayed in a dynamic text field and the code is as below. i'd like for each of the list items to be a clickable link that will display an image (link provided from within the xml document) i've tried adding the link when it compiles the list, but then in the dynamic text field, the link comes up as ordinary text...
function loadXML(loaded) { if (loaded) { xmlNode = this.firstChild; image = [];
is there a way to define a client side playlist like this:[code]but instead of a single videofiles for each playlistentry use dynamic streaming?I know how the DynamicStream class is working and how to set it up but i can't find any information if it is possible to combined those two techniques.
I am having an issue with ColdFusion's CFChart tag. I have a couple graphs that do not display properly. For a horizontal bar chart, when attempting to display 50 or more chart data items, the graph's bar labels stop plotting, but keeps plotting the bars themselves once it gets to bar number 50. I noticed making the chart height larger makes the issue worse as well. If i go from 1000px pixels to 2000px, it stopped plotting labels even sooner. The query that populates the chart items do not return blank label names either. See the screen below, the labels should keep plotting after "7 to 1".
I am running on ColdFusion 8 Developer Edition. Is this a possible limitation for ColdFusion's native charting capabilities? Or should I consider checking out Flex Charting instead?
I have a menu that works really well, however sometimes it is hard for users to get to the submenus because there is no delay between when they roll off the main menu item till the next one pops up. They currently can avoid this by rolling the mouse straight down, and then over, but that isn't necessarily intuitive. The main difference is I added some rollover effects and made it horizontal instead of vertical. Flash File XML File
I am trying create a video playlist driven by XML. My problem is Flash doesn't seem to be recognising the array. It comes out perfectly in the trace.
Heres the AS: PHP Code: var xm:XML = new XML();//creating XML object var title_array:Array=new Array()//array objects to hold title data from xml var creator_array:Array=new Array()//array objects to hold creator data from xml var location_array:Array=new Array()//array objects to hold location data from xml var image_array:Array=new Array()//array objects to hold image data from xml var info_array:Array=new Array()//array objects to hold info data from xml [Code] .....
I seem to have is that the Autocomplete component that seems to be part of flex extras is not displaying the list of items in the dropdown list. Basically, I get a list of blank items. I know they are there and they are the right items because as soon as I click on one, I get the right text in the combobox.
Again, when I type "T" in the text box I see a dropdown list with 3 empty items. Clicking on the third item puts "Test3" in the textbox. But the items themselves are not visible.
It almost as if its a font/foreground color thing, but I've played around with some of those settings too with no success.
I will inlcude here to code i used and a zipped folder containing all the files of my mp3 player. What i would like to do, (i am not an actionscript expert and did this following a tutorial) is to include a download button for the track which is being listened, be able to insert the playlist 'track buttons' inside the scrollpane on the stage, and sort an annoying bug which makes the music form the player continue even when i leave the section of the site where its in, keeping the music in the background running and starting a new track ontop every time i renter the section where the player is placed.
I am working on trying to collect data within an array (which works) and this data is collected when a button is pressed or selected. I also want the ability to remove an item from the array if the button is pressed again. Currently, I have these buttons dynamically generated and everything works well. The buttons have ids applied to them. SO what I am trying to get working is, if I select button 0, 2, 3 (0 indexing), the data array created holds [A., C., D.]. I want to remove A. after I click button 0. Instead, it seems to cause problems. What I am doing wrong with splicing??? trace statement:
A. items so far selected selected items are: 0 A.,C. items so far selected
I'm so proud of myself. I figured this out all by myself and thought I would share. (If you can't tell, I'm new to AS) I needed a way to grab an item in a specific location and have it return an array of items. Here is how I did it:
I'm new to AS3, but our teacher thinks we're all amazing geniuses and assigned us this project which was due last class. Great, I know, I have to do it even if it's late. Only 5 students out of 28 were able to finish the assignment.[code]Those are all the assignment details he gave us.All I have so far. What I have only adds the array to the list. Nothing much else.[code]Also, when the array prints on a new line, the prior item on the array must not print as show above.
A good button should have all the available out, over and down states, and often there are a bunch of nice to haves such as animation, disabled states, filters, you name it. I seem to change my mind in each project I do. The last one, I reskinned and extended the Button Component. The project before I extended SimpleButton Before that I built my own custom class using a Sprite and TweenLite. Then of course you need to work out if you will use library items which is great for laying out on stage, or do everything from scratch using code, which is more powerful but crap for design. I haven't looked at the swc or component route myself.
I'm working with a LinkBar component with a dataprovider that changes dynamically. Users can add and delete items from the LinkBar using an admin tool.
The problem is if the user adds many items in the LinkBar its width increases until it shows a scrollbar in my container.
I would like it to work so that when the user adds items, the LinkBar width is not changed but the height of the component increases instead and the additional buttons "wrap" around to another row.
I have been wondering how other people handle displaying different buttons at different times. For instance, let's say that a user clicks on a button and once they do that you don't want them to see that button again until they do sonething else. in the past I have handled this by simply changing the button's 'x' or 'y' so that they are moved off the screen. One potential problem with this is that the button is still active in the tab order
So im trying out AS3 and kinda havin some issues. I want to be able to attach a button or a movieclip that I have constructed in the Flash IDE - it contains a textfield, some other movieclips, etc.If i make it a button, I have tried subclassing the simplebutton class, attaching that class to the button, and then creating new instances of that class. That works fine - until I have to access, say, a textfield in the button. It seems that these elements are drawn, but are not accessible (or even connected in any way - i used flash.utils.descibreType(mybutton) and the instance names dont even show up in the XML).
So, I thought about a different route - using a movieclip or sprite, and making it react LIKE a SimpleButton. Not what I had in mind, but whatever. Unfortunately, it seems that when I subclass Sprite or MovieClip, the class has to be made dynamic in order to attach things to it from within the IDE before compilation (as opposed to from actionscript).
I have an array that contains movieclips. All of the movieclips have te type and they are all positioned on the stage next to eachother.
Above the displayed movieclips i have 3 buttons, each simbolizing a type, what i want to do is: i click on one of the buttons and all of the movieclips that dont match the right type should be removed from the stage, the remaining movieclips should then tween so that they are next to eachother again. If i click the button again then the movieclips should be displayed again to where they were and should all be positioned again next to eachother.
I'm a bit green when it comes to code and I have a specific thing I need to do which has had me going round in circles (no laughing at the back!). It must be pretty simple but I'm stumped! Basically I have 6 movieclips on the timeline with instance names 'btn1', 'btn2' etc to 'btn6'. These movieclips have an "on" and an "off" state (frame labels)
I am undergoing some experiments on creating object arrays before I attempt to implement it on my main flash document.
Ive created an object array with 3 variables, and im attempting to change the values, then trace the values back to see if its working. Ive tried many things but I keep getting [object: Object] back in the output window.[code]...
What I've got is a menu that loads images as buttons. It will only display menu items that are within a certain group (i.e. if themenuitem.node Value == groupid[q] then it will display that menu item. Each of the menu items has a unique number (Itemnumber[n]). I have a loop that goes through and displays the menu items that are within a certain group. I am currently able to also find out the unique number of each of the menu items where themenuitem.nodeValue == groupid[q], but what I want to do with these numbers, is place them all into an array as it loops through.So, say for example, it finds an item in the loop. It tells me this item is number 4 (if I tell it to trace(Itemnumber[n]) within the loop). Then, it finds another item in the loop, and it tells me this item number is 6. I want to be able to add items to an array as it loops through, so I'll have an array at the end like this: (4, 6).Currently my ActionScript looks like the following. Never mind if there are variables that are not defined in there -- they have been defined in other parts of my movie.[code]As you can see, I've made an attept at achieving this by trying numarray[numarraylength] = n; -- but all this does is send me an array, then overwrite it next time it loops (so I get an array like (4, 4), then one like (6, 6). I've added comments in the code to further explain what I'm trying to do.
I've got a combo box adding items from an array. The labels are working just fine, but adding the data with a variable won't work for me. If I put in an actual number, I get that result, but trying to add it with a variable I always get 1 as a result. classData only ever = 1. I can access the array. I know it must be in the syntax.[code]

I make an array: ActionScript Code: var buttons = [btn1, btn2, btn3, btn4, btn5, btn6];
i don't understand arrays in functions, but how do you find the matching items given in an array? for example: var fruit:Array = ["apples", "oranges", "grapes", "oranges", "apples", "grapes"]; how can i get it to show only the number of apples in the array?
