Actionscript :: Performance - Best Way To Join Arrays

Jan 13, 2011

I need to add one array to another (only care about saving the joined one). Which is the preferred way of doing this? Speed is the primary concern followed by readability (I consider Option 1 to be a cleaner option). I assume it might also depend on the length of the arrays, but are there any good guidelines?

AS3 :: Performance Many Arrays Vs One Array + 'is'

I have quite alots of display objects to manage during runtime, so Im currently using Arrays to manage them. But the problem is I have few many types of displays objects(eg. Tile, Npc and Building) which are basically MovieClips linked to the library. Each display object plays different role where it will be checked on enter frame, a loop.Method 2 sounds much more faster and extensible however Im worried if it would affect the checking rate of each display object during runtime as the displays:Array grow larger and probably making it glitchy.So which one of the following method is faster+less glitchy and explain why you choose it.[code]

Performance :: Optimization - Improving Performance With Large #'s Of Objects

Jan 11, 2011

I'm devloping some library classes for flocking/steering behaviours on large numbers of objects (2000+). I'm finding that at < 500 instances, performance is reasonable. As the numbers increase, framerate bogs down.

I've seen remarkable performance with libraries such as Flint or Box2D with ridiculous #'s of particles / objects, so it should be possible to optimize / refactor my code to be a bit better.

I'm aware of the basic optimizations, such as bitwise operations and optimized for loops. Are there any more fundamental approaches I should be considering? For example, currently each instance is a vector-based MovieClip. Would working with BitmapData be more efficient?

Performance :: Improve Flex Performance For Invisible Views?

Mar 19, 2012

We have a medium size Flex 3.6 application that contains around 20 different page views (managed via a single lazy ViewStack) each having multiple components. Most use custom renderers.All model data is loaded at startup and changes to model instances are communicated via binding and/or collection change events.Once the user has viewed each page at least once, all page views are instantiated and happily listen to update events.Which in effect means that each time a model instance changes, all interested views receive that event and compute derived data or trigger item-renderers.I have tested and confirmed this behaviour in a proof-of-concept application. Even when setting a list to being invisible, it still listens to collection change events and invalidates any renderer affected.What would you do?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Join Multicast Group On AIR DatagramSocket?

Jun 4, 2011

I'm currently testing Flex/AIR for a new software that we have to design to display data received from the network and I'm very excited about all possibilities Flash offers in terms of UI and how easy it is to quickly develop a nice-looking, portable application, compared to other technologies (like Java, though richer in terms of API but harder to write code reusable for desktop, Internet and mobile apps, and not so good looking ).

The application itself gets data from a multicast group and formats it on the screen (images, graphs, ...).

So I'm really willing to use Flash to build this app and after a few benchmarking/prototyping I'm using a DatagramSocket (AIR-only, that's fine) to read UDP datagrams and it's working fine except for two tiny things on which I couldn't find any answer: I can't have the socket join a multicast groupI can't set the send/receive buffer size for the socket I have a lot of code in C and Java for that and both are just a single call to "setsockopt" function: In C: setsockopt(sock, IPPROTO_IP, IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP, &group, sizeof(struct ip_mreq)) - where "group" describe the multicast group to joinsetsockopt(sock, SOL_SOCKET, SO_RCVBUF, &sz, sizeof(sz)) - where "sz" is the number of byte to use for the receive bufferIn Java it's even simpler, using a MulticastSocket: sock.joinGroup(group)sock.setReceiveBufferSize(sz) I tried to use Alchemy to write simple functions to create an UDP socket and have it join a multicast group but alas, the "socket" call returns -1, as it seems that sockets cannot be created in Alchemy environment (though compilation works without problem...).

I find it hard to believe that I'm the only one needing these two tiny "setsockopt" calls... I found on Adobe forums people trying to set the TCP_NODELAY option on a socket (also using setsockopt in the end) but without success...

By the way, the data come from an electronic board and is somehow coded in VHDL so I can't use RTMFP on that, though it seems to implement the functionnalities I need (or at least the multicast group part, the receive buffer size would be a bonus).

Well, I'm rather disapointed by this as Flash fills remarkably 99.9% of the application needs but this tiny 0.1% makes it impossible for it to get the data, thus making it useless...

And we don't want that I turn to Silverlight, do we?

PHP :: Convert Array To String - Join And Split Function

Jul 21, 2011

There's an array, lets called it arr1. There is a switch, that pushes argument to this array, but after the switch ends, I'm stuck at join("").split("");

var arr1 = [];
switch (myString) {
case "apple": {
arr1.push("apple");
break;
}}}
arr1 = arr1.join("").split("");

I know is simple, but I never had experience with arrays in flash before, I just realized join("") was used to convert the Array to string, but isn't split reversing this?

I also tried round and bevel but they would not work either. I did this over and over with many different sets of lines, and I could not change the join style. What am I doing wrong?

Arrays :: Flash - Pushing Or Adding Arrays As Values Into A Multi-dimensional Array?

Jan 21, 2011

I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:

var slideDataArray:Array = new Array();
var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array();
slideDataArray[0] = xmlData.SlideShowParameters.SlideShowImagesDirectory;[code]........

I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.

Arrays :: Fastest Way To Merge Multiple Arrays?

Sep 26, 2011

I'm trying to write a function where I can specify any amount of array, and the return value will be an array containing the contents of all of the specified arrays.I've done this, but it seems like a really slow and ugly way of doing it:

var ar1:Array = [1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9];
var ar2:Array = ['a','b','c','d','e','f','g','h'];
function merge(...multi):Array[code].....

Is there an inbuilt and more efficient / nice way of achieving this? The result does not need to be in the same order as the input - completely unsorted is fine.

ActionScript Code:
for(var i:int=0;i<vQuantity;i++){

ActionScript 3.0 :: Arrays Store References Of Other Arrays?

Dec 27, 2009

I've had a problem for awhile that was really odd. After some intense debugging, I realized the problem lied in setting an array equal to another array.[code] When setting one array equal to another, the values aren't copied over, but a reference to that memory is stored. So no matter which variable you change, they are both references to the same memory and thus both will reflect the changes.With other data types, this doesn't happen.I could fix it by looping through t1 and using push() to add each index from t1 into t2, but that seems a little messy.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Pushing Variables To Arrays Within Arrays?

Jun 25, 2004

correct syntax for pushing variables to arrays within arrays? I have searched many threads but found nothing that exactly answers my query.I have a class (Brigade) which amongst other variables contains an array (BrigadeUnits) This is the third element.. My Brigades are stored in an array called AllBrigades. I now need to fill the BrigadeUnits array with objects of my Units class.The hierarchy I want to create is as follows:

AllBrigades (array of Brigades)
Brigade (object)
BrigadeUnits (array within Brigade object)
Unit (Object to be stored in BrigadeUnits array)

I have tried various approaches including the following, assuming that I am addressing the first Brigade in the array:

AllBrigades [0] [2].push (MyUnit);

But when I trace this I just get undefined.
