CS3 : Creating A Specific Area To Play Movie/button?

I've created a widget that that, on roll over, starts an animation and allows the user to jump to a url on clicking the widget. It all works well, except that the whole stage area (209x204 pixels) is sensitive to the roll, and I want to somehow make a specific target area start the animation on roll over.
I've tried putting it into another button and adding a hit state to the button, which did create the specific area I was aiming for, but prevented the movie from playing, creating a weird 'stutter' of the cursor.

I've a movie clip of a circlular i've imported as a png then changed to a movie clip. i have a hit test to check if something is in contact with the circular object. The hit test works but it works on the square bounding box around the object. do i need to create a hit area to have it work only on the circular object.

By the way i want to make a visualization about a math process to show partial function graph.
I think i can make a scene which in 1000x1000 pixels. I'll start from top of scene and when i press a button i'll move camera to second section which i want to do sketch. I want to make a sketchpad which can draw in a 2 part movieclip. First part is -X section of XY Axis Graph. Second part is +X section of XY Axis Graph. I'll put image of XY Axis Graph to -X and +X section of XY Axis Graph. So it'll be seem like one part. And i'll draw to -X section. After that i'll skip to second sketchpad with camera. And i'll make same thing. But for now i'll draw to +X. And when i press conclusion button camera will skip to bottom of scene and move -X of figure1 and +X of figure2 to bottom. So i can see figure1's -X section and figure2's +X section as merged in bottom. So it'll show to me partial function graph.
But problem is sketchpad is drawing to _root. So i'm unable to move sketch or shapes on XY Axis Graph. But if i can draw that to movie clip i can move it like an object with drawing and merge it like i want.
So i want to make a sketchpad which make drawing in limits of movieclip.
how i can do it ? Also i'm using following code:

I just want to do not allow editing at some area of text area in flex. How it can be done?let suppose text length in text area is 50 characters, i want to allow editing if cursor position is less than 15, and if cursor position in text area is greater than 15 it should not allow user to add more text in text area.If user press any key it should not add any character in text area.[code]

how to play the timeline with a simple button
example:
in AS2 you could attached script to button something like

thats all I am trying to do, but in AS3 how do I simply get a button when clicked to go to a frame and play.

I have a button that is actually a Movie Clip (so I can animate it). I want this button to play a sound. (But this isn't a sound question.) If I have a list of 20 sounds, and 20 instances of this button mc, how can I make it know which sound is being called for? If it were a normal button, each instance would have its own load- or attach-movie command. But since they're MC's, the invisible button hit is always the same. Is there a way to make it look to the MC's instance name to get which sound to load?

I am making point and click game with AS3, with few scenes. On one scene, I've made some kind of door movie clip, and animated it inside that movieclip. there is a "doorhandle" movieclip also, and it needs to animate that animation (inside "door" mc) on click, as well as animation inside "doorhandle" movieclip in the same time.

What I want to do is have one movieclip that has many frames and turn that into a button and then make different instances of the button and have those instances display a certain frame of the underlying movieclip.

I have overlapping animated mc buttons on the stage. The overlapping areas shake when you hover over them. How can I specify the hit area to fix this, and how can I coordinate the hit area movement with the mc button?

I am using Flash CS5 and our professor from school has asked us to do a simple project for this weekend however I have been having so much trouble I have no idea what to do. He want's us to create an animation in flash and to use 2 buttons. One that will stop the animation and another that will play the animation. So this way as the animation is playing I can click stop and then click play at random times and the animation will stop or play.I have a buttons layer with 2 buttons on the same layer. One is called start and the other is called stop. I have a seperate layer with a movie clip I created of a moving polygon that goes from one side of the screen to the other. After creating the movie clip I double clicked on the object and created my animation in the new viewer that popped up. Now I have clicked scene 1 and it took me back to my main timeline.
Lastly I have an actions layer with nothing but code. I have made sure to type all my code by right clicking on this 1st frame and going to click actions. Then I typed in my code. Please note that each layer only has 1 frame as they were all edited individually by me double clicking on the object.After inserting the code I have I go to test the movie but get all these compiler errors. What am I doing wrong? Here is my code and the errors I keep getting.[code]

I have five different scenes all including three different buttons. When I test the buttons in "play scene" - all buttons sounds correctly in all scenes. But when I play movie, there is sound only with one button (the same button in every scene). I have looked for differences, but this button seem to have all the same parameters as the others.

I'd like to create a stopwatch that starts at 00:00 when a play button is pressed, and then stops whenever the stop button is pressed. After the stop button is pressed, I would like the time to be displayed on the next frame, and say something like "You pressed the stop button in x".

I have an FLV component and I wanted to create a huge PLAY button in the middle of the screen so if the video doesn't start automatically a user can click on it and it fades out. If the video stalls a user can click on it again and start the video.I would like it to be arranged as follows:1.play_btn fades in on the startMY PROBLEM: I did it it works, but not sure if it is an optimal solution. I did not assign any function as this way tween starts automatically. Or it is better to assign something like ON_START or ON_LOAD and not sure what is the proper function.
2.If the video starts to play on its own without a user clicking a play button it should dissapear and if the video stops it should appear.MY PROBLEM: Presently I achieved it to fade out on the click, but it stays on the screen unless I am to click on it. If I make background of the button to the size of the video then when a video stops and a user just clicks somewhere around on the screen he hits an invisible play button and video resumes. The button does not come up if the video stops..Extra special desire. If a user clicks on the video then it is paused and a button changes to a pause symbolMY PROBLEM: This third option may be too complicated for me with all "if" statements, but if not too much to ask would like to see how it can be done.here is the code I was able to come up with:

I have created and added my enemyHolder class with

to this class I am adding a bunch of squares using this method

I have a flash cs3 file where I want a mask to move on the y axis (up and down) when the user is scrolling over the navigation area.
In my code, I have:
maskMC.startdrag();
How do I limit the area where the mask will move, then make it return it back to it's original position when the user moves away from the specific area (in this case the navigation).

I'd like to be able to use a pencil image (custom cursor?) to draw in a defined area - its the 'ol pencil drawing a line idea on a pad. I don't know how to define the area? I've tried creating either a btn or mc instance called pad_mc & trying rollOver/Out which confines the pen but not the line. This is what I have so far, which works (ie it draws the line) but obviously it goes everywhere, not just over the mc of the pad.

I have many buttons in a few movie files, i need to select a few of these buttons and store them in an array so i use....
var twocolourbuttons:Array = ["mybutton1", "mybutton23", "mybutton34"];
I then need to show a movie file if the button that has been clicked on is in the array. so something like...
if e.target.name is in the array show the movie twocolor.visible = true;
i then need to go to a certain frame of the movie, depending upon where the button is found in the array. So if the button is at position three of the array, i need to jump to keyframe 3 of my movie.

So I've recently started working with ActionScript 2.0 at my internship. I am now working on a game, that already had all its graphic interface designed and I am doing all the programming. Basically what I have to do is get some movie clips (randomly) from a different scene and print them on another scene in a designated area (but also randomly). I am not sure the best way to explain my problem, so I made a sketch of how the scene should look. [URL] So basically I want to print the movie clips on the black space, as if they were the red squares. But the movie clips are stored in a different scene in the same project. So I want to know two things: how do I get the movie clips from the different scene? And how do I print those movie clips on the specific area?

Is there any way of applying a ColorMatrixFilter to one rectangular area of a DisplayObject, leaving the rest untouched? The DO is a container, and the user interacts with objects in it, so taking snapshots to change its appearance isn't an option.
