View 1 RepliesI've flex application and am using arial font family. My problem is, arial fonts are shown up in windows while on Mac, it's been replaced with Times New Roman. (Arial font is there on both systems).
View 2 RepliesWe have multiple people working on a single project (and often even a single FLA), everyone's using Flash CS5.5 but some users are running Windows whilst others OSX. I've noticed that some Fonts appear differently when moving a FLA from OSX to Windows or vice versa. In particular, the vertical gutter will often be larger on Windows and sometimes even the leading will be significantly increased.
Published SWFs appear fine across both systems, it's only when you edit an unpublished FLA in the IDE or re-publish it that you notice the difference. I'll also add that this doesn't occur across all fonts and as far as I'm aware, I've only noticed it on the OTF file type (the Helvetica Neue LT family is one such example). And of course, all users have installed the same version of the font.
The problem exists regardless of whether the TextField has been added to the editor or programatically. TLF TextFields don't appear to exhibit this problem, however, we already have an extensive library built up that utilises the old TextField class so migrating to TLF isn't preferable.
This is incredibly frustrating as files move back and forth frequently and it basically boils down to telling users of one OS to ignore the alignment issues because they won't exist when published from the other system. Does anyone have any theories as to why this could be happening or how to get around it?
I have noticed that mi screensaver doesn't start while I'm watching videos on YouTube.I'm using Windows 7.This is the test:Set Windows screensaver to 1 minute.Browse to YouTube and play a video longer than 1 minute; ideally much longer.Note that your screensaver doesn't come up after the specified time (1 minute).I've tested using Firefox, Chrome and IE8. My Flash Player version is 10.3. (Youtube is using flash to play the videos). The same happens whether I watch the video in full-screen or not.
View 2 RepliesOn the website I'm currently working on:I'm running into a problem with my flash pages. If you click on About Us from the menu, on every computer but mine the About Us header at the end of the animation shows up as regular text and not the style I used.Here is a screen shot of what it is suppose to look like:on why this would happen? I thought it may be because the font wasn't installed throughout, but it's the same font as "embrace hope' which comes up fine.
View 2 RepliesI'm adapting an off the shelf mp3 player and would like to make some text bold - namely [URL] the text that shows the current artist/song at the top. This is dynamic text from an XML file. I've embedded the fonts [Verdana regular and bold - OpenType] in Flash CS5 but the bold won't display even though the special characters do display [Jónsi].
View 10 Repliesi have a font that is installed on my system Mac OSX Lion and can view it fine, however i have a fla file that i used the font in and when i look at the drop down box of fonts, this is not showing, i have tried reinstalling the font with no luck what so ever.
View 6 RepliesI googled this relentlessly, but was unable to find an answer. I have a font --- P22 Hopper (PC Postscript Type 1) --- that does not show up accuratly in Flash CS4. The font is script, but it shows up as a generic sans serif. I have inserted a screenshot to illustrate. Oddly, this font shows up perfectly in all other CS4 products and also works fine in Flash 8.
View 2 RepliesI am facing a problem while embedding font(Arial) in as3. Please check the attached fla. Here the text is "Press ▲+▼ to reset it to default." But when I set testTF.embedFonts = true; up and down arrow is not shown in output. If you set the value to false, characters are shown.
View 2 RepliesMy Flex AIR App HTMLLoder() showing PDF and its toolbar Nice in Mac but under Windows XP its showing PDF but not showing PDF toolbar how can i solve it? [URL]
View 1 RepliesI'm developing a Flash AIR app mostly on Windows Vista, but recently tried to do a little light editing on my MBP running Snow Leopard as I have access to the excellent jEdit text editor there. Unfortunately, the Windows Consolas font I have chosen for on-screen error messages, tool tips, etc seems to have issues with displaying properly in the Mac version of Flash CS4.
Consolas displays well in Flash CS4 editor mode (and other Mac apps like Text Edit), but as soon as I try and test the Flash file, the font basically explodes, drawing huge black triangles all over the screen. The app continues to work properly, but it's almost impossible to use as everything is covered in triangles. I tried clearing the font caches already as well as deleting the ASO files/test movie.
Each time the server gets rebooted we receive an invalid license key warning in the event viewer application log. Will this cause the server to stop working? Our license key is valid.
The C:Program FilesAdobeFlash Media Server 4.5licenses folder shows the files- sif35.bin,sif40.bin,sif45.bin and sif.bin.
I have an English based flash set that I'm localizing in Japanese. The client has written to embed the fonts in a font.swf. So I figured I can just add 'New Font' for Japanese fonts, add the class ID to the script file:
var font:LoadFont = new
LoadFont('fonts.swf',['ArialRegular','ArialMedium',
'MSUIGothicReg', 'MSUIGothicBold']);
then export the fonts,swf, and launch the main.swf, JPN fonts should show up correctly. But instead, I get blanks for Japanese characters. Does anyone know what I missed? I've tried other methods: 1) add a layer in main file, 'Character Embedding' in Properties; 2) 'Character Embedding' each text boxes in main; none has worked.
I am using a simple xml file to populate a dynamic text box. When I play the movie the text is coming up as a different font.
View 6 RepliesI have embedded my font using the embed meta tag, along which the entire range of Unicode characters... here is my CustomTextField class[code]...
View 2 RepliesI have a site I was working on that I am using two main fonts in. I had the fonts embedded in the SWF. I upgraded to CS 5.5 this morning, now some of the fonts have changed.
I have two SWF's that when loaded into the main site, no longer have the correct font. When I preview them independently, they are fine. When they load into the main SWF they use a standard font instead of the embedded one.
henever I try to embed fonts for dynamic text fields, no text appears in my text box. The text is loaded into the dynamic field from another variable, long story short it all works, except for if I try to embed fonts. One thing, the dynamic textbox is html enabled, and I have <b> tags within the code, so the text ends up being bold. This is how I want it. Do I have to 'embed' a bold variation of the font as well as the regular variation?
View 1 RepliesSo I have a MovieClip asset with a dynamic textfield sitting inside of it. I export my .fla as a .swc to use within Flash Builder 4, and create instances of the asset with code, populating the text dynamically from XML.
My issue is that even though I have htmlText enabled, bold and italics tags don't appear to be working. I have a feeling it is because when I created the asset in Flash CS4, the text field makes you specify the font, and the subset of that to use (Regular, Bold, Oblique, etc).
Is there any way to get the htmlText to render bold and italics tags properly without having to completely rethink the way I'm creating all these fields?
Here the text is "Press ▲+▼ to reset it to default." But when I set testTF.embedFonts = true; up and down arrow is not shown in output. If you set the value to false, characters are shown.

I am working on a short animated story, which has a scrubbable timeline and chapter headings. I used TimelineMax for sequencing it. For the most part, it is working fine. I am seeing some strange behavior that pop up, though: sprites disappear, functions stop responding to user input, seams of the sprites become transparent -- all small issues but pretty hard to nail down because they happen in Mac only.
So I am wondering what is wrong with Flash, and why it misbehaves on a Mac?
I'm trying to embed a font in my project by using url("font.ttf") rather than local("Font Name"), but it doesn't seem to pick it up. The font in question is called "Gotham Bold". When i view the details of the font, the font weight is regular, however when i use local("Gotham Bold") in the css i have to specify fontWeight: bold or else it wont pick it up. But when I use url("folderGotham-Bold.ttf"), and specify fontWeight: bold, it says that font weight is not found for that TTF. If i remove the fontweight, there's no errors, but the font is not applied to the text.
View 2 RepliesI have imported a font into the Flash library in an FLA file this way in the New font symbol dialog box:
[Code]....
I'd like to assign this font to a TextFormat instance, but as you can see, something is wrong or missing. But what?
In my application I'm using a custom embedded font for English (Helvetica New) which does not contain characters (glyphs) for chinese unicode range. In the application, wherver chinese characters are avaiable they are not displayed (suppressed) since they are missing in the custom embedded font. How can I make the flash player to use a fallback system font for the missing characters? And the fallback should be for the missing characters alone. For the Engligh characters it should use the embedded font.
View 1 RepliesI am working on a as3 project in which the user select a font from Combo Box and that font SWF should be loaded Dynamically and then i need to change the font of the Dynamic text field.
I have swf font files downloaded from [URL]
My question is that how can i load the font swf dynamically from server and add them to the library and how can i use that swf to change the font of dynamic text field.
if there are embedded fonts in library the i can access them using this- --
var fontList:Array = Font.enumerateFonts();
for( var i:int=0; i<fontList.length; i++ )
{
trace( "font: " + fontList[ i ].fontName );
}
But How to use dynamically loaded Font swf as a font type.
I have a swf A, which contains no font.If I download into it the swf F1, which contains few characters of Arial, then I'll have the arial font embed into A, no problem with that.But if, then, I download the swf F2, which contains other characters of Arial into swf A, will I be able to use all the embed characters font, only the F2, or only the F1 ?I'd like to have a link to somewhere where this is explained, even in very technical terms : I wasn't able to find one.
EDIT : After few tests, it seems that the player replace the loaded font... How can I merge them, then ?
Is it possible to embed a font in Flash and have it displayed as though it was a device font? In other words, can embedded fonts be aliased?Using the bitmap-text option doesn't work, Flash tends to screw up a lot of the character spacing. I haven't found any pixel fonts that mimic Arial, Verdana and Tahoma accurately. Setting the stage quality to low does alias the fonts but they become fragmented.Using device fonts is an option but, as far as I understand, some browsers/operating systems will take it upon themselves to anti-alias the text.
View 6 RepliesI'm having an issue with the PDF displaying outside the viewable area of the mx:HTML control in Flex. When the application starts up - the mx:HTML is set to a certain size, but can be enlarged if the application is maximized. These are the following conditions to replicate it: Issue only happens in Windows (Windows 7, not on Mac) Issue only happens with Reader X installed (not with previous versions) Issue only happens when running the built app, does not happen in debug / development mode from FlashBuilder

I'm running ant to compile a Flex application, and the build keeps failing when running it on a windows command line. Other people in my team can successfully run the very same build under mac and linux. This is the error shown in the command prompt:
[Code]...
All tokens are set in corresponding build.properties and filter .properties files (and, as I said before, it compiles perfectly under mac and linux). The windows version is 7 Ultimate, FLEX_HOME is set as an environment variable to the Flex SDK 3.5 (the 3.5.0.12683 build that comes with Adobe Flash Builder Burrito). ${compiler.fork} is set to false, to avoid an issue with the SDK and the source files being in different logic drives.
I'm using Flex in Flash Player 10 on Windows, using FileReference to load a file into memory, as below.My issue is that when a file is locked by Windows, my FileReference is not giving me any feedback that the file is inaccessible--it simply never dispatches any events after my calling load().Does anyone have insight into how to tell that Flash Player is unable to open the file?
var fileReference:FileReference = new FileReference();
private function onClick():void {
fileReference = new FileReference();
fileReference.addEventListener(Event.SELECT, onSelect);
