It seems it isn't possible at runtime to change styling defined in CSS files, ex.: colors. This is seemingly because the CSS files are compiled into SWF. Is it possible to externalize styling information in CSS (or any other format) without compiling it to SWF file so that it can be changed easily at runtime just as normal CSS can be changed when it is used in HTML.

Everything is legit and the most recommended solution is that the namespaces aren't correct. I've checked those and they're fine. Other answers I've come across relate to external components causing a problem but as you can see, I'm not using an external component.Here's the kicker. If I do a compile via command line:
mxmlc topsight.mxml

If I put CONFIG::desktopMode around import statements in Cairngorm's model locator, it starts giving "Uncaught exception in compiler" or "1131 classes must not be nested" error. I'm not sure how to address this error!
In Flex it is now possible to use the -define compiler option to do all sorts of cool stuff.In my program, I am using the option such that some of my code is excluded by blocks like this:

And this is working well.How do I get a similar behaviour with MXML?I want to do the same thing, but omitting/including MXML tags in this way, not blocks of AS code.
I am trying to build an application which has a flex front-end and a php back-end. I am struggling to do something with this application which I couldn't figure out a way to do. I would want my flex application to show a view based on an MXML it recieves from the server as a response to some interaction in the flex application. for example, lets say there are two buttons on the current view and if i press the first button, it will load one mxml/as3 from the server, and when i click the other, it will load a different mxml. How do you think i can tackle this situation? how to do this as i've been banging my head on the wall trying to figure out a way.
View 3 RepliesI moved from using the Flex Builder 3 IDE to Flash Builder a couple weeks ago and have noticed a ridiculous jump in compile times with the same project. It almost seems like every time I build it does a clean build. The project I am working with is pretty big, but when it takes more than 4 mins to build, something is wrong. I tried adding more memory to eclipse and all the tricks I could find on the web but the compile time never really changed. I am running under Windows 7 32bit, and I get the same performance from the plugin and stand alone version of the IDE.
View 2 RepliesIn AIR on Mac, when I send login creds to a service and they're incorrect, AIR displays a native popup window to try logging in again without dispatching an error event. Twitter provides a header (suppress_response_codes=true), which returns any error as a status 200 with the error message. I'm using HTTPService to connect to a service without a header like this. Are there any properties or headers I can send to avoid this popup?
View 3 RepliesI'm having this problem of adding an image to the textArea in RichTextEditor (RTE) on the fly and this image seems to "reset" the html properties of the textArea.
Better explained:
The user starts writing something in the TextArea (with Verdana in size:12 font settings). When he adds an image to the text area, the cursor right after the image gets very small and the font settings are reset to HUM777B in size:2.
How could I avoid this behavior?
It seems Flex adds additional HTML code before the image tag. If there was any way to avoid this I would be able to add my own settings to the tags.
I have a custom viewstack that applies automatically a slide in/slide out effect when the view changes. Everything goes smoothly when the views are lightweight but becomes jumpy when the next view requires heavy rendering. Here are the relevant parts of the code :

I have function init, which runs on the creationComplete of the application. The init calls get_login_share_object funtion, in which objects are created, which are null.
Now my problem is that, I get a null object reference error on the Alert in "init()". How can I avoid that. Is it possible that I can have a check to see, if the objects are null the program should just skip reading the objects.

I have an item renderer for a list containing an image, label and a checkbox.These are visible depending on the dataProvider property of the list.E.g if an image is a premium image then display the premium label, if an image is a favourite then display a star etc.The problem is i have a massive if statement, and this doesn't seem good practice.

in my mxml file I have images declared like this:
<mx:Image x="0" y="0" source="assets/bigpicture.png" id="picture1"/>
and at some event I do:
picture1.source = "assets/bigpicture2.png";
However this results in flex removing the picture, and when it has loaded it will show it again.
How can I make the mx:image make so that it will continue to show the image until the new image has been loaded?
I have 2 Spark List with custom Item Renderers. I'm working on an application that enables users to grag these Item Renders from one List to the other. When one of these IR is dropped in a new position or in another List, I'm updating the dataproviders: remove the object from one list's dataprovider and adding it to other's dataprovider. This si working ok. The problem is that some times the IR is cached and it doesn't show the correct information, based on its data.
How can I force the lists to never cache IRs and all the times I modify the dataprovider, all item renders re-create all IRs (performance won't be an ossue since I have few items on each list)

I have a timer in my application. For every 30 min, it will hit the web services and fetch the data and updates the UI. The application was working fine till yesterday. Suddenly, because of some issue, the web services were not available for some time. During that period, Application displayed the RPC Error multiple times(More than 100 alert boxes) in alert window. Because of this alert boxes, my application was hanged and i was not able to do anything.
I have tried several approaches, but nothing worked.Finally, I have tried to use a flag. In all the approaches, this looked promising. so i have implemented it.Basically, in this approach whenever we open an alert we will set a flag.While opening and closing alert we will reset this flag.
I'm using drag and drop on a DataGrid to reorder items. However, when the user holds down Ctrl he can initiate a drag Copy operation. How can I disable copying altogether? (not just cancel the drop, but also prevent Ctrl + drag from showing the (+) icon)

I'm looking for something like #ifndef so I can negate the value of debug and use it to conditionally add release code. The only solution I've found so far was in the conditional compilation documentation at adobe and since my debug and release configurations are mutually exclusive I don't like the idea of having both DEBUG and RELEASE constants.
Also, this format works, but I'm assuming that it's running the check at runtime which is not what I want:

I've programmed a Java application using BlazeDS and Flex, but i think the problem also occurs in any ajax style application. It's a monitoring application, so requests are made regularly to the server. The browser has stored a large amount of temporary internet files on the client pc even getting it saturated.
