I have implemented this one. I am getting 5 textboxes with empty value, if I entered some value in each textbox then, I want to get specific 3rd textbox value wen some event trigger.

It is possible to retrive text from the input element at a given moment?
How can the text in a Label control (or a similar control) be wrapped in Flex 4 beta? In Flex 3 I could use the Text control but this is no longer available in Flex 4.

I am creating a text input control on top of the native TextField class. I am trying to make the input text field itself behave in such a way that hitting Enter when focused and typing, instead of adding a line feed, produces a kind of "submit" event from my control, clearing the "submitted" text input. The described above works quite well. My problem is that I currently rob the users of my control the simple line-feeding ability - instead of a line-feed, a "submit" event is dispatched.
Obviously my control is designed for sending text rapidly, but it is also multiline so I want people to also be able to insert newlines. Think of this as a chat text input control. What I thought about is, somehow capture Shift+Enter and make it behave as Enter usually does. This has proven to be absolutely impossible, and I know a thing or two about Flash Player.
Part of the problem is, Shift+Enter by default does not itself produce a newline (even though pretty much everything else that types in any OS, does) and I cannot patch the event - f.e. by setting 'shiftKey' property to false at capture phase so that the event moves on as if Enter was pressed instead. How to do this, sort of replicating a TextField entirely down to a caret and all?

Need to be able to modify the text in the dynamic box, which also manipulates the slider. For instance, I'd like to be able to drag the slider to, say, 12 and then type in 25 on the box and the slider moves to 25. Control Flash slider bar with input text and vice versa in it?
I would think this would be pretty simple, but I don't really know anything about actionscript 3.0. Please put this into terms I can understand. Basically, I want to be able to input text in a text box and have the movie jump to another frame based on what is typed into the box after the "enter" key is pressed. For example, If you type "Frame 2" and press enter, It could go to frame 2 and stop.
Additionally, I want to beable to have it control movie clips within the frame. For example, if you type "MovieClip1 Frame 3" it could seemingly transform an individual element in the frame by making the movie clip go to and stop at it's third frame.Finally, in the case that something is typed that doesn't match up (that the movie "doesn't understand,") I would like a movie clip to switch from being invisible (frame 1 of the movie clip) to showing an error message (frame 2 of the movie clip).The idea is, I want to make a visual text-based adventure game. Like, you could type "go north" and it would go to frame 3 where there's the northern part of the village.
I want to add scripting functionality to my Adobe Flex application. I know it's possible to use the Browser control, and add the script packaged as a HTML file to the Browser control, and expose Flex objects. I have encountered strange problem. I have created simple Flash text field control and I wanted to compare its content with some other string. This comparison in triggered when user is pressing the button.In Action Script 2.0 code I noticed that a caret return character () was added at the end of the string coming from the input text field.It is easy to overcome the problem obviously, however I would like to understand what is going on. I use Flash CS4 with AS 2.0.
View 1 RepliesOne of our application is implemented in flex and adobe air. We want to have the user press combination of keys, say 'ABC', and have the keyboard return a different character, 'FOG', to whatever app is in focus. This should work even if app has no focus.
Will it possible in Adobe Air/Flex? If yes, provide me some examples?
I have some input text boxes on a form. The text within those boxes is appearing in the top left, so looks kind of stupid. I thought this would be easy to correct by moving the text away from the edges with some coordinates something like in the following:[code]Unfortunately myTextBox.text is a string so won't allow x and y values to be applied to it. Now I want to control that column chart with Slider. I want to change the column chart according to value of the slider.
So, I'm making a text editor for my mobile (Nokia 5800). Anyway, I want it to have kinetic scrolling, but since I will be allowing the user to input their own text and also to load their own text files, how could I re-size both a dynamic text field and an input text field so that all of the text is shown, but there isn't alot of empty space (no one wants to kinetically scroll to the bottom just to realize it is 3000 lines of emptiness ).
I was thinking possibly finding the total number of characters in the string and deciding on a number of characters per line, then finding line height and making the text box be number of lines time line height. On problem with that is I'm not using a fixed with font (Quicksand Bold), so it would probably not work the best.
Screen class in actionscript provides the latest total screen bounds and available screen bound, but doesn't allow to attach listener to listen for changes on runtime.
is there any way of detecting screen resolution changes on runtime, it is required to size the application whenever screen resolution is changed. e.g. in case when machine display is connected to projector/high resolution monitor and then switched back to normal.
I have a column chart that I made using Adobe Flash Builder.
I'd like to be able to dynamically add (or remove) column series.
In my Flex 3 application the user enters IP addresses into a textInput object. As the user enters the numbers comprising the ip address I would like to add the '.' on the fly rather than waiting until latter, so that if the user types 127000000001 I would like the textInput control to display 127.000.000.001. I've been trying to make a class that extends textInput and adds the '.'s to the object's text property in the Event.CHANGE or Event.TextInput handler. Sadly, my extra '.' never gets displayed, the numbers appear without dots just as the user typed them.

How do I (or What approach should I take) to control visual elements, for instance, BorderContainer's, that I created dynamically?
As is, I have an Application containing a BorderContainer and a DataGrid. At runtime, 3 new BorderContainers (which are dragable, and resizeable) are created based on XML data that contains X & Y co-ordinates, and Height and Width values, and then added to the pre-existing BorderContainer. How would I go about getting the properties of these children BorderContainers to be displayed and remain up-to-date in the DataGrid (such as when they are moved/resized)?

I need to put together an editable text area that has a custom caret (cursor) which is different from the default blinking vertical line. Is the caret a "skinnable" property of text input? note that I am not asking about the mouse pointer cursor which can be set using the CursorManager.

If i use the loadVariables it works, with the Html rendering.. if i use it with loadVars it works but now the html doesn't render. What i want is to load some text from my server into the text box and have the html to render. Also, is there a way to display the progress as the text loads, for people with slower connections?

View 1 Replieshow do you change the text inside of a text control when a user has clicked a button. I could not find a way to do this. I used an event handler to input a .xml to a string and then to the text control. This doesn't seem to work.
