I'm working on an Adobe Flash Builder 4.5 iPad application. I have only a humble 13" MacBook to work with. I am being aggravated by the problem of debugging my application in the Flashbuilder's iPad simulator. The FB simulator screen is almost the same physical size as a real iPad, which is too big to fit on a 13" MacBook. Is there some setting in Flash Builder 4.5 that would scale the iPad simulator to fit the available screen real estate?

We have done some research and here's possible solutions:
HTML5: not yet very standard and we are lack of experience. Flash: it looks like Flash on iPhone runs on some sort of virtual machine, it's not very efficient. We have little knowledge on this too. Silverlight + Cocoa Touch: it looks like MS is now giving up SL. We need two times of work on GUI if we choose this. Maybe I can write some XAML parser for iOS using UIKit and Core Animation.
Has anyone succeeded in getting video to play in Flash published for the iPad? I have tried using both the Video and StageVideo classes, but even though they test successfully in the Flash IDE, they do not work on the iPad. I am using CS5.5.

But I can't find anything like an 'isPlaying' property.
For past couple of days i have been trying to make the .nsv streaming files to work in my flex framework. when i call it the data starts getting downloaded but i figured it out that the video object is unable to play this . I tried this for Shoutcast TV streams where i got lots of .nsv file formats.
So i just want to ask Whether somebody has tried to play the .nsv streams from shoutcast into flex.

I suppose the title says it all. I can load an external video file (FLV) and I can have it play. I also have the custom buttons made to control the clip. The only thing I have left to do is to have the main timeline move onto frame 2 once the external video reaches its end. I am using actionscript 3 and flash cs 5.5.

I load external swf files containing video. Everything works fine so far. The only problem is that the preloaded video already starts playing while preloading (at about 30%), but without showing the video.This is the code i have so far:

I built a timeline based player with 2 menus and many videos that you can play.The buttons move the timeline to a frame label and the video plays. The back button has a stop function built in it so the video stops playing when its hit.It plays wonderfully locally but once on a server after a few clicks it boggs down and sometimes the audio from the last video remains playing even when prompted to stop. I was pointed to use the add and remove child functions to prevent this but being very new to Flash and 100% self taught i have zero idea on how to do this. I am trying to put together a class for playing video using the Video object. So far, I have only been successful in getting the Video object to fully work when not using a class setup. In the documentation, I have read that to use the Video object you have to actually drag/create the video object onto the stage. So, in my next attempt, I created the video object onto the stage within a MovieClip but still trying to use a class/linkage setup with the Video inside inside of a MovieClip container. No luck there either. Here is the basic AS2 script that is linked to a MovieClip that contains the Video object ("video" instance) within it.

I build Flex applications. One of them shows slides.They're swf's loaded dynamically from a remote server at run-time.My slides are both re-sizable by the end user and animated.This is easy on the PC with all the Flash support.For the iPad I use the Adobe Flex IOS packager.Gets me just about everything I need - except swf's dynamically loaded at run-time.Apple's terms of service do not support it.So I'm relegated to flattening slides into static images which don't scale well when users re-size them and obviously don't show animations.
If I built a native IOS app with XCode I could probably achieve this with KeyNote or something alike.Don't have the time or resources.Has anyone knowledge of a sneaky way to achieve this aesthetic via the Flex IOS packager? Is there some inventive way to sneak swf's in or use another image format like animated gif's or something else I'm not thinking of that might scale well?
I just finished creating a large online flex app with 43 different screens. I am using a mx:MenuBar with four main menus and a couple of submenus to navigate between these screens.I am now trying to convert this into a iPad app as well, but the mx:MenuBar does not appear to be supported in mobile flex. Is there any way I can replicate this sort of navigation system in mobile flex? The user needs to be able to move between any of these pages at any time, and 43 tabs will obviously not work

View 1 RepliesI would like to build a quiz in which the trainee can choose and then drag and drop a graphic object onto one of a number of locations and submit their choice. Sort of like a hotspot, only instead of clicking on the right spot, you choose object A,B, or C and drop it onto location 1, 2 or 3. Ideally, I would like to use graphics (or SolidWorks drawings) of the actual objects and locations. The training is for assembling mechanical devices and each assembler needs to be certified before being let loose on the assembly line. What tools and techniques to use to accomplish this? I would like to incorporate the quiz in Captivate or as a standalone.
View 3 RepliesThe scenerio: I am trying to make a very simple flight simulator type of animation. When the user presses and holds an arrow key, things move/rotate. The problem: If you alternate moving/rotating things in different directions, the location/rotation of these things becomes skewed. They seem to rotate or move more in one direction than another. For instance, if you play around with the animation for a while, the background is moved or rotated so far in one direction that you can eventually see the edge of the background movieclip. I have tried to tween these things back to the propper location but it just does not look good at all.

But adding an <image144x144> element to the application descriptor file in Flex 4.6 gives an error 103: application.icon.image144x144 is an unexpected element/attribute.Is there a workaround for this? Perhaps through the iPhone InfoAdditions area of the application descriptor?

View 3 RepliesI'm new to developing iOS applications and my school gave me approximately 5 months to develop an iPad application. I have no knowledge or practice on Objective C so since Flash Builder 4.5 allows the development of mobile applications (and I have experiences with Flash Builder), I decided to develop my application on Flash Builder instead.
Everything is going fine until I was told to include a SplitView in my application. I implemented a List on the left side of the application. Clicking on any of the list items will navigate the user to a to another view but i also included and retained the list on the left side of the new view in order to simulate a "SplitView".
Initially it felt as though it will do the job of a SplitView like how it does when I attempted it on XCODE but it doesn't look or feel natural. I found this video which shows that it is possible to create a SplitView on FB but I've cracked my brains and I really can't figure out how it is done.

In the cosmicpanda update for youtube, you can go from a video page to the video creators profile page while your video is still playing in flash. Does anyone how Youtube accomplishes this? I would like to know if it's possible to keep the flash state of a site constant while moving from page to page on a site.It doesn't seem as if the flash is reloading, so I don't think that they are just saving cookies for the current video time and starting the video at that point when they refresh.I would assume that they're using ajax, but the application of this feature is really clean. The URL gets correctly changed to the users' profile page's URL. The back button still works as it should. (I can press back and forward between video page and user profile page and the video continues going clean and never drops.)
