why there is a gap of 5secs (ish) between my swf opening and my preloader starting (at like 90% complete)?My first frame contains 228kb of info, could that be it? If it is, I cant see what it is to cause this.

I just followed Lee Brimelow's 'Preloading in Actionscript 3.0' tut - it was easy to follow and implement. However, when I upload my files to my webserver to test, the .swf that I'm loading begins to play before the preloader completes. Actually, to be precise, the main swf has an audio file in the background that begins before the preloader completes. The stage of the main swf doesn't appear until the preloader completes. Prior to this, I was using a 'scenes' method of preloading, that didn't have this problem, but I kept running into a 1009 error, so thought I'd try a different method...
Here is the actionscript for my preloader:

I don't have much experience with buttons and barely any with action script. I am trying to make a button that is a non-animated symbol on up, a glowing version of the symbol on over, and on down the symbol swaps to an animated symbol that moves across the screen.
But, on the down state, the symbol does not animate like it is supposed to. When I hold the mouse button down, the glow goes away, but the symbol just does not animate as specified in the symbol that appears during the down state.
I tried experimenting with making the button move on the main timeline, adding a stop() command in one of the layers of the up-state symbol, and then adding a play() command to one of the layers of the down state symbol, but nothing seems to work.[code]...
I bought an mp3 player that was supposed to prevent multiple instances of the player from playing at the same time. In other words, if I was playing an mp3 on one instance of the player and then pressed play on another instance, it would pause the original mp3. However, it is not functioning like this and the author of the flash player is not responding to my emails. I've included the code below:

I finally found out how to make my own sound control buttons but the problem is i'd really like the sound to start up when the flash movie loads and then use the stop and resume button to control it? But when I place the sound on a layer and then click the resume button the sound begins again and is echoed?

The Problem:
Everything works GREAT except there is a slight difference between the TIMER in the ActionScript and the frames in the GUI. That means that after 3 or 4 iterations, the text starts changing before the motion tween is done.
My Idea:
Instead of using a timer in my ActionScript, can I create and Event Listener that listens for when the movie clip starts to replay? If so, HOW ?
I'm using the text effect I found in ActionScript Text Animation , and the script works great.
My question is, is it possible to have line breaks? I tried adding spaces to end a line, but you'd have to wait for the script to read through the added spaces before the next line begins.
Im trying to use BitmapData.draw() on a movie clip, thing I noticed is that this method always draw from the top left of the movie clip, is there a way to "center" the draw method somewhere else on the mc?

I've had this problem with a couple of different files. Whenever I contiuously change variables that define Dynamic Text using ActionScript, the text begins to appear with square characters in front of it. Note: This doesn't happen on the computer that I made the Flash file on, just every other computer I've tried it on.

View 7 RepliesMy animation contains a button which 'hovers' or 'lightly floats' on the stage. The object and motion tween creating the 'hover' is in a movieclip which I then applied to a button symbol. When I test my swf and scroll over the button, the motion tween within the button skips back to the beginning. Is there a way to get a smoother transition?
PS. I put the button into a movieclip with the a motion tween and it doesn't seem to work properly.
how to make text acting as a preloader so that its color changes as preloader percentage. i dont mean how to apply the math, i mean how to mask it or whatever action to achieve that effect?

I just started working on a preloader screen that includes a preloader mask over a logo and a percentage dynamic text. I can get either or to work but not both at the same time. I notice that if I remove stop(); I can get the percentage to work but not the preloader image. With the stop(); embedded the image preloader works but the percentage doesn't.

i tried the tutorial that teaches you how to create a preloader....i followed the instructions and it still doesnt work! what's wrg?[code]on my first frame actions....i put the "gotoAndPlay (36)" cause i tried a previous preloader that took more than 1 frame and didnt want to change my button's "goTo" frames...but i figured it wont change anything..anyways, i put that line of code as my first frame action....by double clicking the timeline..then i create a symbol for that frame 1 and created an animation.

I'm wrapping up a small corporate website, but I left the preloader to do until the very end, so instead of changing any layout of my View, I just moved everything to frame 2, and put the preloader on frame 1. I'm using some of the code here: http:[url].... which seems pretty ace.
The problem I'm having though is that CS5's built in preloader is going and loading the whole swf, then it runs my preloader (on frame 1) which causes it to move strait to frame two instantly (I changed it so now it at least plays through the animation then moves on, but it's still not loading anything during that screen).that is causing flash to load the entire swf before even playing my preloader on frame 1. I don't remember having this problem in CS4.
I know it's possible i saw it on several websites does some one know how i can use a static text in preloader counting to 100%? For an example look at ILOVETECHNO.BE The preloader a heart use a static text i think it cannot be a dynamic text because the font is not a normal average one

The swf doesn't have a prelaoder though, and as a result it is choppy when it plays. I don't have the fla file so I can't edit it. Is there a way to use the flv file and create a preloader for it so that it will eventually play smoothly?
View 5 RepliesI am really stuck with a loadmovie action that I cannot find the solution to. I have a website that I had to split up as the loading time was too long. I have used a loadMovie function and it loads the external movie but the problem is that the external movie requiring a little bit of time to load I want a preloader to come first.
I have attached screenshots of this (wssmain liks to the arch_mc1) . The problem is that the movie loads but the preloader doesn't play. Anybody has any ideas why?
The first screenshot shows the wssmain whereas the second (preloader2) shows the arch_mc1. If the fla files are required I will make them available for download.

We have some problem with the speed of our website. That's why we want to start a preloader when those pages will be opened by our visitors. Example of page were we want the preloader[url]...it's the first 'round' preloader and the class code is under the preview. We want to start this preloader when the file mobiledescription.php will be opened.

I have problems with creating a preloader in AS3. I have tried several tutorials but the problem remains... the preloader starts counting at 50% and is only shown after a few sec. I have removed all export in 1 frame from my instances.I have no sound. I would prefer not to load my main.swf into another swf, if there is another solution.
View 3 Replieshy this very simple preloader is not counting? It sits still on 1%, thats it, then eventually the content of the next scene fills the screen.(I use to import a number of heavy images to Scene 2 to slow the loading process down.)
View 2 RepliesI have created a video in After Effects that I exported to an FLV movie. I would like to use it as an intro for my website but I would like to have a preloader for it... I don't need anything complicated, a 'youtube style' little circle thing would be totally fine.
Now I tried an Action-Script-two-frame preloader. It works but when my video finally plays, the sound is not synchronized with the images; which is kind of annoying as I used visual effects that need to be synchronized with the music and sound effects. Would anyone would have some simple AS that I could use for that.
I've started to use the embed metadata tags in my flash CS4 IDE based projects. I've hit a stumbling block though - how do you create a preloader if you use embed. I've googled for it and found flex based solutions but they do not seem to work from CS4 IDE based projects
