Button That Begins An Animation Once Clicked?

I don't have much experience with buttons and barely any with action script. I am trying to make a button that is a non-animated symbol on up, a glowing version of the symbol on over, and on down the symbol swaps to an animated symbol that moves across the screen.
But, on the down state, the symbol does not animate like it is supposed to. When I hold the mouse button down, the glow goes away, but the symbol just does not animate as specified in the symbol that appears during the down state.
I tried experimenting with making the button move on the main timeline, adding a stop() command in one of the layers of the up-state symbol, and then adding a play() command to one of the layers of the down state symbol, but nothing seems to work.[code]...

I'm working on a project where there's this girl standing still and she's supposed to jump to the front when clicked on, but she doesn't jump. She's set as a button symbol like such: [Up] standing still, instance is a png file [Over] Bends down and swings her arms repeatedly. I have been searching for a way to do this for about 3 days but I have come to no conclusion. I need to find a way to get an animation playing when a button is clicked. It is a little more complicated so let me try and explain. I have an animation of two doors opening and closing. From frame 35 - 65 the doors open, on frame 65 I have text, then from 66 - 96 the doors close. Now my problem comes when I want to change pages. I need the animation on frames 66 - 96 to start playing when any other button is clicke except for the one that opens that page. I have the delay on the buttons and it is working fine but i have no idea how to test if the other buttons are clicked.

I am making a flash website were the logo will start out at the bottom and play a animation when someone clicks on a button(there will be about five so I don't which one they will click on), the logo will move to the sides. after this animation plays this one time I need to never be able to play again while they are in the website..

My animation contains a button which 'hovers' or 'lightly floats' on the stage. The object and motion tween creating the 'hover' is in a movieclip which I then applied to a button symbol. When I test my swf and scroll over the button, the motion tween within the button skips back to the beginning. Is there a way to get a smoother transition?
PS. I put the button into a movieclip with the a motion tween and it doesn't seem to work properly.

I have 4 navigation button and like home, about us etc.... And i want to disable home when it is click and cannot clicked it until the user click another button first. means if a visitor is at home page then home navigation is disabled, and all other are active, and when they click at aboutus button then the pages goes to the about us page and the about us button is disabled and other get active. I want this solution in AS3 with oop concept.

I've got about 6 buttons laid out, one on top of the other in a list format. In their normal state the buttons are grey in colour, when I rollover them, the buttons flash and turn to orange. Now, what I need to happen is this: I want the buttons to stay orange once clicked and only roll out back to grey when the user has clicked on another button in the list. I've been told that the best way to do this is via adding a listener, however I am a little unsure as to how to go about this. I've checked the flash help file and have a basic understanding of how listeners work...but can't really wrap my head around applying it to this situation. Perhaps I will need to have all the buttons as separate broadcasters?

I have a menu with five nav buttons (atcually MovieClips). Each has three frame labels: "on", "stay", and "off". The rollover and rollout animations play flawlessly, but I'm at a loss as to how to give each button a sticky "active" state. I am trying to accomplish the following:
In my Library, I would like to have a symbol that I can drag to the stage, and when I compile my flash movie and click on the symbol it plays a certain animation. I would prefer for the animation to be defined in the class rather than sit on the timeline.
I have tried various approaches to this and I keep hitting walls, so instead of running down more blind alleys I figured I'd just ask the question... what is the best approach in flash to accomplish this?

Anyway what I need to do is have a movie clip finish playing when a button is clicked and then go to the frame label associated with the button. I hope I'm explaining myself ok. So if I had say 4 buttons Home Gallery About Contact If Contact is clicked then I want the Home page to play (Which is a fade out) and then go to Contact Page (which will fade in). Then If Gallery is clicked then I want Contact to fade out and then go to Gallery page and fade in.

ok lets say you create a button that when held down play an animation of 20 frames if realsed it goes to frame one and stops if held down it plays out this animation. for the topic lets say you have a fire animation and you want the fire to apear and if the user hold its down the animation reaches the end of the time line and loops back and plays the last 5 frames of the animation and as soon as it is let go it goes to and stops at frame one. Well i know how to make a button that when held down plays out an animation. And i know how to say when released goes to and stops at frame one. What i dont know how to do is to loop the fire at the last 5 or 6 frames so the user can hold it down all day long and play out that animation.

im trying to do is have a button that shows an animation (created by a duplicateMovieClip function) with onRollOver and stops the animation with onRollOut. It works when i roll over and it stops when i roll out, but then it continues in a loop up to the point where i rolled out (instead of cutting off completely as i would like). Id be extremely grateful if you could tell me where im going wrong.

I want to make a button (or graphic) active and visible if another button is clicked. But it must be invisible and unclickable before the other button is clicked. (this is a "find the differences between the 2 pictures game" and I want circles to appear over the differences that the user finds but only after he clicks it)
The button (or graphic) I want to become active has instance name of "sockcircle_btn" The button you click to make it appear is called "sock_btn"
In the first frame of the sockcircle_btn layer, this is my code

Pretend a button is selected - when that button is selected it goes to the active frame which shows that the button is selected. I bought an mp3 player that was supposed to prevent multiple instances of the player from playing at the same time. In other words, if I was playing an mp3 on one instance of the player and then pressed play on another instance, it would pause the original mp3. However, it is not functioning like this and the author of the flash player is not responding to my emails. I've included the code below:

I finally found out how to make my own sound control buttons but the problem is i'd really like the sound to start up when the flash movie loads and then use the stop and resume button to control it? But when I place the sound on a layer and then click the resume button the sound begins again and is echoed?

The Problem:
Everything works GREAT except there is a slight difference between the TIMER in the ActionScript and the frames in the GUI. That means that after 3 or 4 iterations, the text starts changing before the motion tween is done.
My Idea:
Instead of using a timer in my ActionScript, can I create and Event Listener that listens for when the movie clip starts to replay? If so, HOW ?

I just followed Lee Brimelow's 'Preloading in Actionscript 3.0' tut - it was easy to follow and implement. However, when I upload my files to my webserver to test, the .swf that I'm loading begins to play before the preloader completes. Actually, to be precise, the main swf has an audio file in the background that begins before the preloader completes. The stage of the main swf doesn't appear until the preloader completes. Prior to this, I was using a 'scenes' method of preloading, that didn't have this problem, but I kept running into a 1009 error, so thought I'd try a different method...
Here is the actionscript for my preloader:

I'm using the text effect I found in ActionScript Text Animation , and the script works great.
My question is, is it possible to have line breaks? I tried adding spaces to end a line, but you'd have to wait for the script to read through the added spaces before the next line begins.
