I'm implementing a navigation system into a project, that requires you to click a button, so that you may advance to other pages.it goes like this: it is a slide-based navigation system, with 4 buttons. To advance to page 2, on page one you must click a button, and so on. Otherwise, no matter how much you click the button linked to page 2, it will never work. And the cycle continues. I guess it's not all that easy to understand..so i've attached a link to the .fla [the file does not have any navigation restrictions

Feb 28, 2008I'm trying to create a site with HTML pages and Flash based navigation, which basically means that the site content itself is standard in HTML/CSS format, but the main menu bar with the buttons and all is an SWF file. Needless to say, each lit-up button on the menu bar has to dim out on release and take to the corresponding page, e.g. clicking the 'Contact Us' button would cause it to dim out (as if unavailable) and open the 'Contact Us' page. Clicking a different button afterwards, would re-light the previous button and dim-out the newly clicked button and take to the page that corresponds to the newly clicked button, etc, you get the idea. There are 4 buttons for 4 pages.
Anyway, so far I've tried two methods which have failed:
Method A.
I exported four duplicate SWFs from the same FLA, with the only difference being the one unique button dimmed out and the other three lit up (a total of 4 combinations). Then, I put a different SWF on each page. This, the 'Contact Us' page would have the copy of the SWF with the 'Contact Us' button already dimmed out; the 'Home' page would have the one with the 'Home' button dimmed out, and so on. The obvious problem with this approach is that an SWF needs to load over again every time the page changes, which results in a brief, but, nonetheless, annoying enough blink. I hoped to combat this latency issue by loading all bitmap elements in the flash files externally, as opposed importing them to the library. I assumed that since all SWF copies accessed the exact same bitmaps from the exact same location, they would be cached in the memory somehow and not need to be loaded every time, so there'd be no latency. Then again, I was two days younger. This method failed. As Eric Bogosian's character said in the movie Under Siege 2, "Assumption is the mother of all" (you-know-what-ups).
Method B.
At a couple of other message boards, I was suggested another technique, which would require only one single SWF. A guy gave me a tiny peace of Java Script that would use a variable to inform flash about which page is called so it would know which button in the menu bar to dim out. Although this technique rid me of the necessity to use multiple SWFs, it didn't fix the nasty blinking problem AT ALL!!!
Method C.
I was also advised to "put info in a div and generate server requests to bring the appropriate info up". "You need to use ASP or PHP or some other server language" he said. Well, ASP is absolutely out for me, so I won't even consider it. As for PHP, unless there exits a very simple and straight-forward tutorial with source files, which I could very easily figure out, modify, and implement for my needs, I can't get into it because since I don't know PHP, it takes me a really long time to learn how to do a simple thing with it, which is something I can't afford right now with my deadline and all.
Method D.
I basically want to put the page contents into an iFrame window. Even all drawbacks of using iFrames considered, I still thing this is the optimal way for me. So here's where I currently am on this:I learned how to change the iFrame content using a function. Here's a simple test example, and here are the HTML and JavaScript codes for that example:[code]What I need now is to be able to call that JavaScript function and pass it the URL argument using action script instead.
ActionScript 3.0 :: Link Navigation Button To Pages?
Sep 25, 2009Making buttons that open another url is easy enough, but for some reason I'm having a huge amount of trouble having a navigation button open new content on my website, such as moving from the Home content to the Menu content (the layout is static, only one small section filled with content changes.
I think the issue is that I can't figure out how to code it due to the fact that there are a good amount of nested movie clips, I'm not sure how to direct it to the place and frame I want.

Jul 1, 2008This is a repost, but I've still not figured out a solution. I have a Flash movie that appears on a webpage. The Flash contains scrolling content ( scrollpane, text field, whatever).
The containing webpage is tall, and therefore also has scrollbars. My Problem: When users try to use the MouseWheel to scroll through my Flash scrolling data, the browser page scrolls as well. It's very annoying.
I would like to be able to have the MouseWheel scroll my Flash scrolling content when it's over the flash, but scroll the webpage when it's not over the Flash.
Does anybody know a way to supress wheel-based browser page-scrolling while my mouse is over a Flash movie??? Is there a way to eat/stop propagation, whatever, of the wheel event in the brwoser, either from Flash or from Javascript?

Create App With Many Pages?
Mar 11, 2012I am planning to create a photo/video gallery secured by a pin. So i plan to have 4 pages, Login, Menu, Image Page and Video View. Login would be a simple textbox where i check the pin. The Menu would show all picture albums and videos in a list i create with clickable sprites or buttons or something like that. And a video view where a video will be shown if i click on a video link on the menu page.
I tried to prepare the scene in flash cs5, so i decided to create 4 frames. ALl pages have their own layer. The first will be the login, second the menu, third the image view (incl. thumbnail show and fullscreen view popup) and a video view. On each keyframe i put a rectangle converting it into a MovieClip acting as the main container where all the stuff will come into.
Now i tried to initialize all these MovieClips by resizing them everytime the stage is resized. For this i get errors, that some of the MovieClips are null. This is because the MovieClips exist only keyframe 2 for the menu or keyframe 3 for the image page and keyframe 4 for the video view. So i have to put them all into keyframe 1 to be able to access. But i created 4 keyframes because i want to jump to them by using "gotoAndStop( n)", where n stands for keyframe 2, 3 or 4.
I dont get it, how does Flash interpret the code and how is the visibility of these MovieClips. Can i only access the MovieClip from keyframe 2 because i added it on keyframe 2 only? What is the best solution to have a simple 4 page app where on page 1 (menu) i click on video link which holds some sort of ID of the video, then i jump to keyframe 4 for the video view providing it with that ID, but how to do that when Actionscript doesnt even know there is a video container MovieClip. To get Actioscript to know all of them, i have to move them to keyframe 1, but then how to do the paging stuff.
IDE :: Best Way To Create Pages
Mar 16, 2009So I'm working on a new flash site project for my boss. I've not done a flash site before so am learning as I go.
What I wanted to get advice on is the best way to build the set of pages. As you see from the homepage, there are 8 buttons there in total.
Obviously, when one is clicked, it will take you to that page *collections, profile, etc etc....). I am in the process of creating these pages but want to know what's the ideal way to set up the fla.
Is it best to create each page as internal movie clips inside the actual site.fla and then using the attachmovie command attach them to a main container_mc? Or is it best making them separately and loading them externally, loadmovie to a container_mc?Or do I set each page at a different frame on the main timeline and get the button to jump to that frame, which then plays the movie via one of the methids above?

What I want to do is always have the left hand side links showing on the site. I want to create a new .fla for projects and have that load on the window on the right when the projects link is clicked on. What I have done in the past is create the entire website within one .fla but that is getting too confusing. I assume some actionscript is required here which I am pretty useless with.

Jun 21, 2011I have some flash code and an XML file that creates dynamic buttons that allow you to cycle through the XML file. Im trying to integrate this code into my .FLA but I want to get rid of the code that tells it to rely on the dynamic buttons, and instead, use my non-dynamic navigation I already have built to load the specific part of the XML depending on which page you click in my nav.
I just don't know what to strip - and what to add to the code to make it work.
My .FLA is setup in that each "page" is on a different layer on frame 1, so it uses actionscript to fade in and out of each "page".

My understanding about MovieClipLoaders is that, it doesn't matter the background of your mc, the page to which you are loading will maintain it's background.

Jul 10, 2011menu and background layers are static, and tweens are contained withinintros and outros. On the intros layer, pages fly in from the right while on the outros layer, pages fly out to the left. Each intro page has been labeled page1, page2, etc... and for the outro pages arelabeled page1out, page2out, etc...I am trying to use the built in flas tweens, and really don't want to look at other frameworks until I have a good grasp of the built in engines.When a menu button isclicked, I would like for the current page to play its outro while the next page is playing its intro - simultaneously.

C# :: ASP .NET Loses Session Between Pages
Apr 20, 2011I encountered a weird error, I lose sessions when moving between pages.
I lose Sessions because i use Flash (swf) menu to navigate between pages.
So when i navigate to a page using the Flash menu, I lose the session.
It doesn't let me answer my own question so here is the answer:
Thx for answering, but the problam wasn't the flash..
I just found out that the session was opened on http://WebSite.com/ And the flash was redirecting to http://www.WebSite.com/
So the session losts between domains, and not between pages because of flash :) I just made all my site use the www domain .
