Only One Instance Of Same Button Calling Function?

May 17, 2009

I have 4 instances of the same button on a single layer in a timeline of the mc 'coverflow_mc' named 'ThatsMe_btn_a' to 'ThatsMe_btn_d' ie same button, same position.. it just changes instance name on 4 keyframes. Why does it call the function fine for button a but not for b,c, or d? There is a stop on each of these frames and I can see from the swf that it is stopping at the correct frames.

function thatsMe() {
right = new Sound();
right.attachSound("right");

ActionScript 3.0 :: Nested Mc Button Calling Parent Function?

Jul 9, 2009

I have setup a video interface with a stock video player in the parent mc. In the same swf next to the player, I have a mc which is a video thumbnail chooser. The thumbnail buttons are located two levels down within this mc (nested within two mc) in order to facilitate the scrolling independent of the player. In the parent, where the video player lives, I placed a function:

function vid1(event:MouseEvent): void{
pubPlayer.source = 'Steve480.flv';
}

In the child mc where the thumbnail buttons are, I want to call the parent function like this:

vid1_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, vid1);

None of my clips are externally loaded, just nested in the same swf. How can I talk up or down the movieclip ladder?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Calling JavaScript Function From Flash Button

Sep 30, 2003

I can't get this to work. I need to call a Javascript function from a button in flash. The code is as follows:
on (release) {
getURL("javascript:nameOfMyFunction('whatever.html ')");
}

This is working, so I got the call right. But what I really want to do is have that url (html) to be a variable within flash.
on (release) {
Myurl="[URL]";
getURL("javascript:nameOfMyFunction('Myurl')");
}
This doesn't work. How do you use a flash variable as a javascript function parameter?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling Function With Event Listener Attached To Button

Jul 26, 2011

I have a situation where I'm calling a function with an event listener attached to a button, which in turn calls a function, which does a number things including calling a second function which resides in a child swf.

Just as an example:
Code:
myBtn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, firstFunction);
function firstFunction(e:MouseEvent):void{
//I call another function in here (among other things)
externalSwf.stopTimer();
}

"StopTimer" resides in an external swf which for our purposes is called externalSwf and it resets a running timer.
Code:
function stopTimer():void{
myTimer.reset();
}

I'm getting argument mismatch errors, which often have to do with the Event Objects not matching. The event object for firstFunction is a mouse event triggered by a click so I put in e:MouseEvent...what I don't clearly understand is, what type of object event is dispatched when I call the function stopTimer from inside the function firstFunction?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create A Button Listener Outside An Instance Function?

May 29, 2010

I have a set of thumbnails in a "gallery" class calling a "feature" class that's presents/displays the associated content.

I'm stuck with a runtime problem where I have a thumbnail button calling a "feature" class. This "feature" class contains a function with an instance of a button listener. So everytime I call this function it creates a duplicate instance of this listener. - BAD

I would like to move this addListener instance out of the function in the "feature" class so it doens't multiply instances every time it's called by the thumbnail.

However, when I take the listener instance and it's function included out of the function in the "feature" class being called it can't access other functions in the "feature" class.

Is there a simple way around this so I can have button listeners in a class but not added every time the containing class is being called? Should I have these buttons in a separate class that just extends from the "feature" class?

Basically I'm creating a question with 4 answers (i.e. a,b,c,d).I have my question working fine, but I'm having a problem adding a check mark beside the answers once the user clicks the submit button.I've created four instances of my check mark; rightAns1_mc, rightAns2_mc, rightAns3_mc, rightAns4_mc.  I've set them all to _invisible = false; I've also set up a variable; nCheck:Number = 0; and when the user clicks one the radial buttons I have the variable change (i.e. if they click A, it set to nCheck = 1; if they click B, it sets to nCheck = 2; etc)So in my if statement for the submit button I figured I could have rightAns(nCheck)_mc._visible = true;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling A Movieclip Instance From An Array?

Dec 14, 2011

I am creating movieclips into which I want to load thumbnails which are to be loaded dynamically. I'm not sure if the solution I am trying to build is the more effective way to do this; I'm still quite a noobie.

Each movieclip container which I will use hold the thumbnails is of a size to hold 16 thumbs, so the number of holder movieclips required is calculated at the time the xml loads; with the movieclips then being created, named and stored in an array. (The idea is to then move between these movieclips (and so the thumbs) using previous and next buttons) - however, I'm not at that stage yet!

However, when I call each movieclip to place the loaded thumbs in, the code throws the "#1010: A term is undefined and has no properties" Error. I think this is a problem with the array; and possibly the mc not being defined properly. However, I am not sure where my problem is.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Calling An Instance's Variables Directly?

Jul 21, 2009

I have two classes a main and one controlling a cloud graphic going on the stage. In the main class I am creating an instance of the cloud, adding it to the stage with an array and with a for loop I am setting the x speed (vx). I have noticed that if I set the vx in the cloud class and reference it directly then it does not work (clouds are drawn for a millisecond then a blank movie). I have to initialize the cloud.vx value in the main class to get it to work. Why can I not just pull the vx value from the cloud class without setting it to a value in the main class?

Main class

Code:
package
{
import flash.display.MovieClip;

ActionScript 3.0 :: Create Class Instance Without Calling Constructor?

Feb 11, 2011

Is it possible to create an instance of a class without triggering the class' constructor?[code]In the case above, say I wanted to play around with a Foo instance, but I really don't want my global.foobarCount going up, nor do i want to pass in any value at all for bar.This could be useful for introspection where you want to learn more about or pass a particular class object but don't want to provide required arguments or trigger anything that the constructor may do.Is this at all possible? (Obviously, new Foo() just doesn't cut it here, since it would throw and arguments error, nor does just using Foo, since that's a reference to the class itself).

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Run A Function Only If Instance Within Function Is Defined

Mar 3, 2011

I have a situation where, upon loading my swf, I add an event listener to the stage to listen for keyboard commands. One of them is to listen for the spacebar, and if it is pressed, it should play a movie. The problem is, that movie is not loaded until later on, depending other user interactions, therefore, until it is loaded, the reference to it would be undefined.

But if I wait and add the listener for key commands only when the movie is loaded, then I can't utilize the listener for other keyboard commands, like RIGHT or LEFT, which are the buttons which get you to the movie in the first place. Is there a way to add a conditional or something to prevent that code from being executed if the video is not defined yet? Here's my code:
