One of my buttons, flash will not read it as a button when I publish it and run the swf file. The cursor stays as a arrow meaning its not a button in the swf file. Inside of the fla file it is a button with a hit. There is no movie or tweening or anything like that. I think it's not reading it as a button because Flash is placing the hit behind the actual button. Inside of my button there is only 1 layer. When placing the hit usually it covers the button. But in this case, the hit is going behind the image. I think this is why when its ran, its not reading it as a button.
I even removed the AS3 code from the button to see if it was a coding error. Rather if theres code in there or not the swf should still read it as a button and the cursor should change to a hand by default. Because of this, I tried to create another button in another area on the stage to see if it's just that one area thats having that problem. I created a new button from scratch, placed a hit, no AS3 coding added, and it works. The swf reads it as a button. But with that button, I added a AS3 CODE to go to an external website and now Flash isnt reading the AS3 code for that button. Heres the code:

the conent will not be able to be seen unless the user hits the arrow keys on there key board. So i need to make a group of objects i can make into a movie clip and than inside that movie clip make an animation that plays the squirrel running. i will pause here to ask two things i dont know how to do i want the squirrel to have an animation when standing still where it flicks its tail (like a real squirrel would). and also how would i flip the squirrel so when the left key is pressed it points left and when the right arrow is pressed it faces left? and my main question when it reaches the edge of the stage the extended background that runs off stage moves over to reavel more content. as well as not have the squirrel run off stage? in short i am using the squirrel to view the full pages content.

I am changing the flashvars variables v1=value&v2=value ect then after the flash movie runs I am changing the variables externally by javascript, so far so good.when flash first loads it reads the vars correctly.when I try to read them ( after the change ) it keeps reading the old values.[code]everything works except I cannot seem to read the changed FlashVars.
i am working on a survey form in MX-04 Pro. I have the main .swf file embedded in an HTML page. The document's width is longer than the viewable screen so the person taking the survey has to scroll down to answer the remaing questions and hit the "continue" button to proceed to the next page/frame in the movie. When the user hits the "continue" button the next frame in the movie appears but the HTML page is still scrolled to the bottom. Is there any ActionScript I can inclued in the frame or continue button to make the movie/survey appear at the top of the html page when the user hits the "continue" button?#2
Is it possible to make the items in a List component sort randmoly? or maybe alternate between "ASC" & "DESC" order? Furthermore, there would be an "Other" option included in my list but I would like that to remain at the bottom of the list while the other items in the list were sorted randomly?

Seems straightforward. The track's name is read and returned correctly. However, for the genre, instead of displaying "Trance", the script returns "(31)".
Some browsing online revealed that there are so-called genre ID codes, with some 100+ standard genres each having a corresponding number code. It turns out the code for Trance is 31. For some reason, Flash displays that code instead of the actual title of the genre.
If I change the ID3 tag of the mp3 file so that the genre is something which is not on the list of genre ID codes, e.g. "abs123", the code works correctly, returning "abc123". It is only when the entry matches an item from the genre ID list that its number is shown instead.
I am really stuck and would appreciate any input! Until then, I am very confused indeed... :-(
I have a grid of objects that have been added to the stage dynamically, the objects are either of a Class Red or Class Blue, how do I perform a hit test on the Classes? I want the Blue object to disappear once it hits a Red one.
I am creating a tower defense game and I want to make a tower that shoots a bullet and every enemy that the bullet hits is damaged. The bullet can hurt multiple units. My problem is detecting if the bullet hits the enemies. Right now, I have the enemies in an array. With other towers, when an enemy is in range, the tower fires and when it hits its original target, it causes damage to that target.
For the tower I want to make, it will shoot the bullet the maximum range every time and I need it to damage every unit it hits on the way to that final destination.
I've got tree movieclips called: greenpip(this is the dragable object, which is visable), greenpip_target(which is invisible, but becames visible when greenpip hits it, and grrenpip is becaming invisible) and then the third one: greenpip_flask (which is the animation I want to play when the greenpip hits the greenpip_target). Everything works but I don't know how to make the greenpip_flask play, when grrenpip hits the greenpip_target. This scenario takes place three times with three sets of objects

I plan to switch over to colin moocks' preloader later when I get this working, make it draw/attach a preloader into each movieclip incase the movie has not loaded before the user presses "next".

I have an XML doc that was exported from FileMaker Pro that I need to read into flash to get the variables from. The XML doc is laid out like this (shortened for brevity):
It keeps telling me a term is undefined and has no properties. This I've isolated to the backgroundArray.push statement. Just not sure how to fish the data out of that XML doc properly. What call would I use to iterate thru the different ROW tags to get to the DATA info?
I'm making a small adventure game, and I want the game to go to the next frame once the main guy MC hits another invisible mc, like where the door is. I suppose another way of doing this is when the main guy mc hits an xy coordinate. So basically what I want is a script that says, when MainguyMC hit another MC/ coordinate, go to frame 2
Here is the code I have and the flash file runs for about 10to 15 mins then stops updating from the dynamically created xmlfile and just hangs displaying undefined. Is there something wrongwith my code? The only way to clear it out is close the app andrestart it but that leads me to believe its a caching problem. Butbelow i did use some ideas about dynacially loading and unloadingthe content to stop the caching problem. I am not great at actionscript and only understand a little.

I'm writing an app that I want to ideally pull a random entry from a txt file. Each row of the txt document has 12 separate entries. When I use LoadVariables to read the file, I get the entire file. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to parse the individual lines.
I have so many questions I don't know where to begin...
First, do I need to use varName= in front of each item in the text file? Second, does flash anything that will allow you to read a file by line, then parse based on tab delimiters? Third, should I be using something besides loadVariables to retrieve data, or should I be using something besides a txt document?
this will get me started, but there is still the matter of randomly selecting a line in the txt document.

I was going to download the trial version of Flash Professional CS5.5 but when I got to the download page it wasn't downloading. The "Download now" button was there, but it was unclickable, when I clicked on it it didn't work, plus it was a little dimmer than I remember it was when I downloaded another trial. I'm also using the latest version of Google Chrome and I tried downloading it on IE and Firefox.So, is there any solution to this?
I have a normal XML file which i chucked together that works fine with the code i have below - this is obviously saved as an xml file as well. What I'm trying to do is generate an XML page using PHP. I have done so, works fine and reads as it should correctly when simply viewing the page in a browser, but when i try and read out the data in flash (loading in a php file instead of an xml file, everything is undefined!! Below is the flash code, which works when the load() link is changed to a straightforward xml file...

the header at the top of this PHP is generating the page as xml, so it should all be valid.
I am new to flash. I am working with RFID readers and tags within flash and I cant figure out how to stop a tag from reading more than once. I want it so when the tag is swiped, it wont read it a second time, but after 3 seconds, it can read it again.
