Professional :: Linking From A Swf In A Scrollpane To Positions On The Main Timeline?

I have a scrollpane where I have loaded a swf of many small images that are set up as buttons.How do I create the link between this swf/actionscript to the main fla/timeline that the scrollpane is contained in?
I recently started creating a flash website from a template that was created back in 2004. I have very little knowledge of either AS 2.0 or AS 3.0. I am currently attempting to link my buttons that are in separate movieclips back to specific parts of the main timeline "scene 1". Currently when clicked, the buttons just cycle through the varying pages that have been created, "s1" , "s2" etc.
How do I link a movieclip/button back to "s8" in the main timeline?The AS 2.0(I think it's AS 2.0 anyway) that currently exists is as follows:

I understand what first rollOver and rollOut commands are and they work fine, but the "On (release)" doesn't seem to go where it needs to.
I have a scrollPane on my stage, and I have a movieClip inside of it with a bunch of buttons. When you click on one of the buttons, I need it to gotoAndPlay a frame label on the main timeline. So far I cannot get this to work.
keyframe one - dialogue / conversation with characters ( then a button is triggered to call an external swf [placed at keyframe two] )keyframe two - the external swf game. i want to put a button that makes you go back to the main timeline once you're done with the game and proceed to keyframe three (that's the problem. i dont know how to declare and make that button work)keyframe three - dialogue / conversation again .

I have been trying to figure this out for 3 days now. Here is the structure on the timeline: movie clip (portbtn) inside port btn (button) I need (button) inside (portbtn) to link to a keyframe inside of another movie clip on the main timeline called portPage.
Here is the code I have been trying to get to work and it seems like it would: Select allusa.onPress = function() { _root.portPage.gotoAndStop(1); gotoAndStop ("closed") };
Now this is what everyone else tries and it doesn't seem to work. Also I want to note that I have tried to trace the movie clip "portPage" and it says undefined which from what I have read means that the button is working but it is just not getting the right directory. I have no clue what other directory to put in there since this one seems to be the right one.
im creating a character sheet and all i have to do is get the character to do a few things, im using Stan from american dad, so he draws his gun, salutes, and does this guns speech, only problem is. i can get him to salute by using the code

this links fine, the salute is in a movieclip on frame 2 of the timeline, and the button is set to link to this.problem starts after the movieclip finishes playing, how to return to frame 1 on the main timeline, ive tried gotoAndStop("1") amongst other things (gotoAndStop ("Scene 1", 1)ive also tried frameLables too but that didnt work, though im not sure if i was doing that right to start with.Then im having a problem with my other buttons, even when set to on(release){gotoAndPlay("3");} they still go to frame 2 (with salute on)
I am using flashmx 2004. I am creating a presentation where the main (suppose "main.swf" )movie has seven "lebels" on the timeline. I am require to link to external swf files for each lebel which I can do by using the button script :

I created a scrollpane which contains several different buttons. Each button does a simple timeline navigation, but won't function inside of the scrollpane. I just need each button to 'gotoframeandstop'. How can I make these buttons work in a scrollpane?
Decided to stick with AS2.0, i've got buttons that are working great, linking to certain frames in my timeline etc. The only problem I'm having is after they have been clicked and gone to their respected frame, they remain clicked. This is my code for each button

I am in the learning process. Working with FlashCS5 and AS3. if the issue appears to be too simple for you. Placed a movieclip(mcassessJohn) on the main timeline and moved to the frame labelled "johnFeedback" in the movieclip timeline using the following actionscript code.
i am working on a flash website with actionscript 3.0. i am using a scroll pane to view a external swf file that has buttons that move forwards and backwards through the swf. my problem is that when the naviagtion buttons are clicked the page changes but is at the bottom of the scrollpane. i want the verticalPostion = 0 so it starts at the top of the next page but don't know how to do this. this is the code for my
I have a Scrollpane with a movie clip inside of it and am trying to link to a frame in a parent movie clip and keep getting an error. I am linking it the same way I do any other links. I'm sure I am missing something. I have created a scrollpane instance "Buttons_sp" and set the source in the properties panel to "SantaThumbs_mc" Set the symbol linkage property to Export for Actionscript and used the default assigned class name for the SantaThumbs_mc. On my main timeline I have another clip LargeSantas_mc that I want to access specific frames on when a button in the scrollpane is clicked.
The button listeners are on an actions layer in the SantasThumbs_mc and at this point I have only one button with active code so I know that the code is being seen when I test the movie, which it seems to be.

I have a movie clip (mc_menu) on that is on the main timeline.This movie clip has buttons that I want to use to display other movie clips on the main (parent) timeline.
I've created a movie clip with an animation on it's own timeline 30 frames long. When I press 'Enter' while inside the movieclip the animation plays ok.On the main timeline, I have one layer 30 frames long with the movieclip symbol placed on frame one. If I press 'Enter' the main timeline play head moves to frame 30 but the movieclip animation does not play on the stage. If I press 'Ctrl + Enter' or publish to swf then the animation plays ok but I can't setup the stage how I want it without the animation playing on the stage. Do I need to just change a viewing setting (tick box in preferences) or is this related to AS3 or new CS4 inner workings?

I am using Adobe Flash Professional CS5, and when I preview my flash animation on the main timeline, symbols with animations in them are stuck on their first frames.
How do I make symbols animate on the timeline? I've seen this been done in various tutorials. Is it a glitch perhaps?

I want each movie to run one after the other (not at the same time) but the top layer just keeps dominating (but not even working) even though I've added it's movie further down the main timeline. my main timeline i have an intro, then a main menu. from that main menu it goes to a movie clip, i want to create a 'back to main menu' button inside the movieclip that will return to a certain frame in the main timeline.
In AS2 I need code for a button, on the main timeline, to go to a frame in a mc off the main time line. I have attached a picture of the time lines in case I have not articulated my needs well.
Excuse the probably simple question but I'm just starting off with Flash.I have imported a few video trailers directly into flash and saved them as movie clips. I want to be able to insert these movie clips onto the main timeline and play them one after the other, repeating once they have all played. On the main timeline I have set a layer for each clip and a keyframe where the clip is inserted for each layer. When I go to play the flash file, it is showing the first frame from each movie file and then moving to the first frame of the next movie file. What do I need to do to make flash play the entire movie file in that specific frame before moving to the next frame where the next movie file is and playing all that movie?
The entire .fla animation consists of nothing but two really long movie clips. Which are placed on frames 1 and 2 of the main timeline. Now for reasons that are too deep for me to go into explaination about my boss is telling me that I have to have everything main timeline -no movie clips. I've tried copypasting all of the frames but they all paste wayyy to large on the main timeline and they wind up in different places on the stage.
How can I move all of the frames from my two movie clips onto the main timeline without everything breaking? Better yet - is there any way to just convert a movie clip into an .fla?
I have spent many frustrating hours trying to figure out why this is happening. It is totally broken. I need to use a motion path using 3d in a symbol. Because of the way the project is put together (for Flex) there are several FLAs that need to be converted to symbols.
So when I convert the FLA that contains a motion path with 3D, the object moves away from the path in the symbol (the 1st frame remains in place, but everything else is off the path), even though it remains correct in the main timeline.
And once I start editing the object in the symbol, the object returns to the path ok, as if it had been some strange display issue, but the 3D is all wrong - the vanishing point relative to the object has changed. The same thing happens whether I create the 3D path using "global" or "local" tool settings.
I have thumbs placed on the stage. I create an empty mc to load swf. But my thumbs disappear from the stage when I test the movie ( html or swf) if I settle the _ and _y position of the empty mc.why the emptymovieclip positions affect the positions of my thumbnails?
