I am running CS3 but have to upgrade... so I downloaded a trial of Flash 5.5. The only components in the component window are video related. Where are the scroll components?? Do they not come with the software any more? Am I supposed to download those? If so how/where?
View 3 RepliesI am working in two different applications, one to be compiled for desktop use (AIR) and one to be compiled for the web. They are part of the same project and use the same visual components, but they are completely different apps. When a visual component is changed in one application then it should also change in the other one. Is this a good situation to use a shared library fla? I am new to the concept of shared libraries and I am considering the options.
On one had I would not have to update 2 applications everytime I change something, on the other, I would always have to recompile the library folder when I do the smallest changes to a component.
Creating a dynamic scroll panel using two objects from my library and accessing images from a folder using some basic XML. The ScrollPanel loads fine, the 6 instances of the empty movieclip holders load. The function that traces the instance of the movieClip names is working. My trouble is accessing the instances of the movies to load the loaders in order to view the jpgs called from the folder. I receive an "access of undefined property" message if I type thumbLoad0.addChild(pic1ldr); etc, which you will see at the very bottom.

I made six buttons. All of them appeared in the library before, but now only five of them do. When I double click on the button (on the stage) which has a missing library reference, I'm able to edit it as usual nonetheless. Is this a database gone bad? If so, how can I rebuild the database index?
View 1 RepliesOn this page are listed Source, Library, and External Library lists. I am working on a large flash project with hundreds of files. It appears that CS4 caches a copy of my fla's similarily named folders here, EVERY time I publish my files. These lists are now hundreds and hundreds of items long. I want to clear these lists, but the only option I can find is the minus sign.
Is there a way to wipe these lists clean, or, does anyone know an external xml file or such (i have serached), where this data is stored so I can manually remove it.
i have situation in which i have some library projects, say
"DataProcessors","Lib2"
, included in my lets say "MainProject" (a web project) placed on directory
"E:in-debugMainProject.swf"
, when i build the project it automatically place all the libs .swf in its "E:in-debug" folder, but when i debug or run the project it it gives loading error that
"E:DataProcessors.swf"
not found but i have those lib files on
"E:in-debugDataProcessors.swf"..
what could be the possible errors.
I'm trying to control the behavior of components in my Flash Library using a .as file class, but it doesn't seem to be working.
For example, if I have a Button in my library called exampleBtn and attempt to do this in the .as file:
exampleBtn.visible = false;
... nothing happens. The button is still visible in my application when I run it.
Can anyone explain the workflow to make a Flash library component accessible in a .as class file using Flash CS5?
I am using AS1 & 2 for a webpage and am trying to create a scrolling textbox, but the components are not in the components menu when I pull it up.However, when I start a new project with as3 it shows up in the components menu.The thing is though I need it to work with my project I've been working on in as1 & 2.

View 3 RepliesI have a small problem. I've just completed my website in flash and have discovered that on a small monitor the bottom half of the website is cutoff.[URL].. This wouldn't be a problem if you were able to scroll...but the right scroll bar is missing. Unsure why.
I published the index.html straight out of flash and have tryed all options but for placement the current options work best. I have little to no html coding knowledge.

I have a big project in Flash CS4.Things have been normal for several weeks. Today the Library was missing. The library tab is visible. My project name is selected. But the rest of the panel is all gray. I have downloaded an update to 10.0.2. I am working on a Dell Laptop XPS M1330. I went to the Dell site and downloaded & installed the one video driver update. I also began a new project and tried to import one image into the library. It imported successfully, but the library panel is still blank.

i am trying to create a flash movie for my browser page. i am able to import and export the movie just fine, the problem comes after i export the movie. As long as i leave the flash file in the folder it was created in things work great. If i try to move the folder or rename the folder it stops working. It acts like it cant find the flv file i created the flash with. if i rename or move the folder back where it was created things work fine.

It works fine when I have the photo.jpg in the same folder as the swf. But it does not work when I have the photo.jpg in a different folder. What must I do to the AS2 to make this happen? View 11 RepliesI'm trying out a page-flip program that tells me to create the pages as jpegs within a folder named "pages" in the Library. When I try to run it, it tells me it can't find the jpegs. I can get it to work locally by including the full URL (i.e., "...My Documentsedinnerpartiesimagesp3-large.jpg), but I know this isn't embedded in the swf file.

The problem is that the base class for any image in the library is BitmapData and the constructor for BitmapData needs two arguments, width and height which could vary...

Basically I am trying to make a flash file where a person can see themself in a scene...
i take a photo from a digital SLR...these pictures are then saved to a folder via wireless transmittor to a folder....
All I want is to be able to scroll though the images on within a exe presentation like a slide show but I will mask in a foreground.
What I have is some actionscript that displays an image from an external folder. All I have to do is specify the location of the folder, e.g,

However, this is going to be used as a widget that people can embed on their site, I can specify the full URL to the icons folder and the app works, but to save bandwidth I've imported the images into the flash library under the folder "icons". All I need to do is set the path variable to the icons folder in library and it should work by the loading the images from the library rather than loading the images from my site.
I am having problems with building my webpage with Flash. I have imported the the swf files I want in my library but when I try to put them into folders my computer seems to seize up and takes a few minutes to do the job and can be very slow and I am unable to anything on PC while it is doing this. I have not incounted this problem before on my PC but I have had it for over 5 years now and I am due to buy a new PC in spring next year when Windows 7 is released on all new PCs. I am using windows XP with all the updates available plus upgraded to 1GB memory last year. Is my PC to old to work with FLASH CS3 or is it another problem entirely?
View 3 RepliesI have seen that exporting with AS3 from library is a lot better than loading a whole music loop. ie: A tenth of the size so would it be best to always do it that way for a game for example.But if I'm building an English teaching app with 100's of words and sentences it's easier to connect up via xml and load from folder. Which would be the best option here?

What would you recommend for this type of project. Throw all assets (main text area, blog, latest project etc) and separate them into their own mc's, then call them onto the stage? Or have them all external sepearate swf's?
I want to:
1) Place symbols on the stage manually in loaded.fla
2) Exclude these symbols from the swf because they will already be in loading.swf
So I:
1) Created a component.fla
2) Created a "comp" symbol in the fla
3) Turned that symbol into a component via Component Definition
4) Exported the comp.swz into Configuration/Components/MyComps
5) Opened up loaded.fla
6) Pulled the comp component onto the stage
7) Went to file AS settings and added Configuration/Components/MyComps to the External Library Paths
8) Compiled loaded.swf and played it
BUT the swf includes the comp component on the stage...which is NOT what I wanted. I only want the swf to work and have a reference to comp when it it loaded into loading.swf.Why haven't the classes in comp been excluded?Obviously this is a workaround for runtime shared libraries, which is unpredictable, time-wasting and generally painful. Is there a better way to retain WYSIWYG and share symbols? I don't want to do dynamic placing.
Here in Flash CS4 Explorer, I have shapes. It's intuitive that I be able to right-click on Scene1, and be able to Insert Shape. Can't. I go to the frame. Can't. I right-click everywhere. I see 'Create Shape', but everywhere I see it, it's grayed out - won't let me.
How do I create new shapes in the graphics folder in the library of a flash cs4 project?
I have created an application where on button click it has to load an image to a movieclip.
It worked fine in my local system, but when I uploaded it to the server, the image loads late and thus the animation is missing and is causing problems.

View 1 RepliesI am looking to build a set of components for Flash that our developers can use throughout future projects.The components are not covered by the standard set of Flash UI components and I don;t think I need to really extend the UI Interface. Instead I would like to be able to distribute a library of FLA (non-compiled) components so that a developer/designer can simply drag a component out of the Library and then edit it however they wish.Maintaining the ability to edit components is import, and this would be too limited if it meant creating skins or only changing things programatically.
