All now works exept the height doesn't seem to work; that is, if the text goes on for pages all of it prints to screen. I would like to contain it to 350 px and then have the user use the scrollbar.
It's what this image describes:For some reason, I cannot use bold tags to set the TLF text to bold, even though both the regular and bold fonts are embedded.so that the webpage that embeds this movie can call its function (otherwise the movie itself will be wrapped by TLF).his is not exactly a question since there is an obvious solution to this. Just set the htmlText as something like "<font face='Myriad Web Pro'><b>BOLD</b></font>" and you're done.hs issue is, why does it not render the bold text without the font tag in the first place, if I have already set the font of the TLF text in the PI?
View 2 RepliesI'm using the tutorials on [URL] to show me how to work through things. However, when I am trying to type text using the TFL setting, I get nothing but a blue box. I open a blank file, select the Text tool. It comes up with the cross-hair the a small capital T to the bottom right. I click on the stage to make the text box from the dotted lines/marching ants, then as soon as I let go, it snaps to the top left corner as a blue box. And every time I repeat this,each subsequent box snaps to the top left corner. When I click the selection tool, and make a box around the corner, all the different blue boxes I made fro my text tool is shown, but I still can't type even a single letter!

How can a set the image size in the above code. I've tried inserting width and height parameters just after the image's path but an error is thrown. I would like for the image's width to be as wide as the dynmic text infoBox.informationText
Also the path to each image equals a variable called calledMarkerContent How could I set the img src equal to the variable called calledMarkerContent?
Well i am currently mkaing a virtual world using flash cs5 and smartfox server. I have all the stuff done but then i try to start the movie it says "Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts."

I'm trying to get the letters in a word (each letter is an individual text object) to cycle through three different colors when clicked. Right now, all they do is change from their original color, blue, to black when clicked. No further "cycling" occurs. I'm appending the code. The part of interest is (probably?) in what is presently (and inaccurately) the "traceTextEvent()" function/method. It starts around line 90 of the code.

I create a dynamic text object on my stage. I set the family to Arial and style to Bold. When I change the text by setting the .text to something else, the bold goes away and it just becomes Regular. How can I make it stay Bold?
View 1 RepliesI'm having difficulty setting the text of a dynamic text field when using an if statementI have a gallery and thumbnails, which gives each image a picNum, ie 1, 2 etc;When I click on the thumbnails, it sets the picNum accordingly.What I want to do is set the caption depending upon my picNum, so I set a function to change the caption depending upon the picNum that is called when the thumbnail is clicked. Ie.

My company has 50 flv files that we regularly show to clients. I was planning to set up a website that had all 50 videos on it and the client could pick and choose what videos they want to watch by selecting thumbnails. The problem is that our account executives want to be able to choose what videos are available for them to watch, so they can't watch the entire library. I can't be chaning the interface for each client request, so I am thinking the account excutive could select from a list of videos and send them a link that only has those thumbnails of those videos on it.
Any ideas on how this could be accomplished? It is kind of like having an interface for the account executives with a menu of movies, and then a different interface for the client to play the movies chosen for them in the order in which they choose. It would dynamically build according to the account executives selections.
I need tp set the y coordinate on a sprite's rightmost coordinate. That is, usually when we set the y coordinate that's the lefttmost side of the sprite, and the sprite starts there and goes to the right of that point. I need to reverse that. The reason is because I'm putting text into it and it's going to the rightmost side of a box, so it can't overflow to the right.
View 2 RepliesI have a menu bar which is made by looping through an array of the menu options (and submenus) and then attaching a menuitem movieclip in each case (then setting the text). The menuitem movieclip contains a dynamic text field and also actionscript to draw the background depending on the current settings (colour, border etc).
I have a variable in my root fla file called menuwidth and this is used within the menuitem movieclip to define the width of the menuitem. When i set this to one value it works absolutely fine and creates the menus accordingly. i can change this to whatever size i want (including calculating the size of the largest option and then setting it to that, to ensure all options fit). This works great.I have been trying to code it so that the menu options can be different sizes (in the event of a horizontal menu) so that you can have one that is wider than another. The code has become quite long (due to submenu and other functionality) but in a nutshell it is:

Is there a way to set up a background image (repeating or non-repeating) that the stage area floats over. When I use file > publish settings > HTML > publish - It creates the HTML document but any area outside the stage is colored with the default stage color- Can this be set up in Flash or changed in HTML?

In my timeline I have different link hot spots, so that each product will link to a separate web page (externally).I don't think this is going to work:When I upload the Flash file to a server to test, the links show me the 'pointing finger' icon, but when clicked upon it does not even open another web page attempting to follow the link. - that tells me this doesn't work!I need to get this correct for when the final goes live. What am I missing? Should I try the extension? (product01.asp)
View 6 RepliesI have a html page with some links to mp3 songs.I would like to set things up so that when user clicks a mp3 link, a small flash mp3 player (embedded in the page) starts playing with that songs. The user could click on another song that would replace the last one at any time and have basic controls.
- flash mp3 player - need 1 that has start / stop and volume buttons (simple)
BTW: I set this type of thing up in the past with a frameset - top had quicktime player embedded - and bottom song links went to top frame - all was fine but kind of bulky.... looking for something a bit slicker...Also would like to do the same for flash / quicktime videos, Also if there's something free or close to free that is a jukebox type where the song list is part of flash,
I keep trying to get started with Papervision, but I must be entering the classpath incorrectly as I keep getting errors that the compiler cannot find the classes.Is there some kind of bug with setting the classpath on a mac?I checked out the papervision stuff so it sits in:
/Applications/Adobe Flash CS 5/Papervision/as3/trunk/src/
Inside the src folder is a folder called "org", which contains "papervision3d" and the folders of classes.To set the classpath, I've gone to Preferences, chosen ActionScript, clicked on the ActionScript 3.0 button at the bottom, clicked the plus sign, and then clicked on the little folder button to add a path to the Library box (the middle box). I browsed and selected:
/Applications/Adobe Flash CS 5/Papervision/as3/trunk/src/
I thought at this point (after quitting and restarting Flash) that if I created a class file that had, for example,
import org.papervision3d.cameras.*
that it would work -- but it doesn't. It only works if I save the .fla and .as files themselves in /Applications/Adobe Flash CS 5/Papervision/as3/trunk/src/, in the same folder as the "org" folder. And I guess this means that the path in the Preferences setting is useless.
I am working on an interactive flash map, I was able to set all the countries borders with the help of fireworks (awesome tool), and import them back to flash and set each country as a button.I would like to set all of the buttons to have the same properties for example :All the buttons have default red color, and will have a mouse hover frame that will change the color of the button to blue.I DO NOT want to set each button manually, because I would like to have the choice to change the mouse hover color to a different one, and would like to avoid passing each button and changing each one's mouse hover frame.
Is there a way I can built a template of a frame, and for each button set its mouse hover frame as the template frame I built ? And then if I make any changes to the template frame, all of my buttons would be automatically updated?
I am trying to create a FLV playback component (in Action Script 3) where the skin hides after the mouse is idle for a certain amount of time. I've read a lot of suggestions to set the skin to null (in action script)

TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
As far as I can tell, there is no way to toggle visibility of the skin. The best I can do is turn the SkinBackgroundAlpha to 0, which does remove the background of the skin, but not any of the buttons or bars.

It is in the libary and the MC is exported for actionscript as "bulletPoint".When trying to set the text I try [code]1119: Access of possibly undefined property text through a reference with static type flash.displayisplayObject.is there a way to get this to work without giving the textarea a name? I would rather use getChildAt if possible.

I just spent 2 hours scouring the web for the answer. All I'm seeing is a whole lot of "how do you do it" and a lot of "do a google search for it'. I found a tutorial for CS4 that looked promising yet when I tried it in CS5 the damned Preview attribute (or whatever) just sits there looking at me. You're supposed to be able to click on it and choose a frame. I click and double click and nothing happens.

1.) A page with a question, including a "submit" button, and an Input Text field where the user can type in his answer.
2.) A page with "Correct" and a page with "Incorrect".I have already gotten the pages and graphics created. But for the life of me my Action script is not working. The tutorials I have looked at would help me if I were making the quiz one total page where when you answered the question there would be a comment that came up, but that's not the case.

Any way to set the text that initially appears within a ComboBox without actually making it a selection? I have a ComboBox that initially starts out with one selection labeled "Select One". When you click on the ComboBox, the first selection in the list is "Select One". Is there a way to tell the ComboBox to just say "Select One" when it first hits the stage without making it editable?
View 3 RepliesI'm trying to create a dynamic text field which displays the first number contained in an array named _root.arr. I set var to "_root.arr[0]" to catch the first number in the array. Unfortunately it doesn't work because it shows just a blank text field.
I've also noticed that if I just set var to "_root.arr" all the numbers contained in the array will be displayed separeted by a comma.
So, how can I just display the first number in the array?
I have a little issue im trying to resolve. Basically i want to inherit the embedded text format properties from one text field which i have off the stage (empty) to another text field i have on stage. Ive came across the function of getTextFormat(), however when i try to apply this to the other text field it doesnt work:

Ive embedded italics into my test field which is off stage. I guess im doing this completely wrong?! I know i could simply create a new TextFormat() then apply that to the text field but is there a way of inheriting the format properties of one tex tfield to another on stage?
