I have faced a problem in Adobe Flash CS4. I have created a simple text box and set it to a vertical direction, I've rotated it to 90 degrees. It looks good in the FLA file but when I convert to SWF, the text box simply disappears. Other components of my animation remain as I have designed them.

View 9 RepliesI am learning flash and recently bought a flash template so I could see how it was structured etc. The vertical menu on the flash template plays fine when ran locally but when I upload it to the web the text on the vertical menu doesnt all show (i.e. the text is half cut off).

View 9 RepliesI'm having a little trouble using URL links in text. If I select a part of the text and give it a URL link (I'm using mailto: links here), strange things are happening to all the text in that text box at runtime in some cases the leading changes, other times some or all of the text disappears. But it only happens at runtime, so I have no way of knowing if or how to compensate. And simply removing the offending link or linked text doesn't fix the problem once the link has been created the only way to fix it is to create a new text box with no links.

View 2 RepliesI am having a problem with my text alignment and I can't figure out a way to correct this. Unfortunately, I'm using a mac with CS3 and a Windows computer with CS4, so it could either be an OS difference, a version difference, or a software bug which I can't figure out.
Update: I downloaded a trial CS4 and the problem persists. This seems to be a mac issue. For some reason, the text on my Mac with CS3 are not in the vertical center of the text fields. This causes a problem with my "align vertical centers" alignments, meaning I've had to do the alignment by hand to get it to look right. When I moved my file to my laptop to keep working on my project at home, I noticed that the text alignment was correct on my laptop, causing all of the text placement throughout my document to be off. This means that I can only work on the one computer and can't bring the project home to work through the weekends. I have made an image showing the difference of how the text is aligned on the two versions, and a sample of how it affects my project when i bring it between computers.
I made the file on the mac (CS3) first, and so the alignment is designed to look correct on there. When i bring it to the PC (CS4) the text shifts down, placing it back in the center of the text boxes and ruining the alignment. When I publish the file it keeps the formatting of each system. IE - publishing on the mac makes the final product look like it does on the mac, and publishing on the windows computer makes it look like it looks on the windows computer. The file published from the mac has the mac alignment on both computers, and the file published from the pc has the alignment of the pc on both computers.
Just to clarify, the way flash handles text fields on windows / cs4 is how I imagine it should be. I made the file on mac/CS3 however, and so when i said "ruins the alignment" I should have said "fixes the alignment problem, but breaks my alignment which was made to compensate for the problem I was experiencing."
My Text is visible before rotating it to verticle position using Free Transform Tool. But when once it is rotated to verticle position the text disappears from the Stage. And it is not an animated Text as well?
View 4 RepliesI have a files that is loading and parsing a huge amount of data from a csv file and creating and plotting a graph using the data. All is well if I have the file loaded on the first frame of the movie. But if I pass in the URL by entering the file name in a text input field and clicking a button. The X and Y axis values disappear as do intermittent notes placed above the bar graph. I still see the x and y axis and it's hash marks and the bar graph (shapes) but all of the text is gone.
View 3 RepliesCoworker is developing a Flash project and has a small dynamic text field inside a movieclip. Imagine the text field being 200 pixels wide by 50 high, and sitting at the top of the canvas. As she moves her mouse around the LOWER part of the canvas, directly 'under' the text field, her cursor changes from the standard arrow, to the vertical bar (that is used for text selection). This is inexplicable and odd and is also interfering with her ability to do other things in the project. Has anyone seen this behavior? She has turned off 'Selectable' for the text field but that doesn't help things.

I've managed to put together some action script through looking at various tutorials and posts. but when I preview my site and click the image nothing seems to happen.

I am new to CS4 and I have an issue with writing text on frames. I am using the text tool to write a paragraph of text which I type in to word to do spell check etc. Then I transfer to Flash and using the text tool paste it in. Now as soon as I let go of the mouse the text disappears but when I click on the text again it reappears why?
View 1 RepliesI recently upgraded to flashplayer 11 and found that it made all the text on my buttons and dynamic text fields disappear. I noticed that you can see it when it first load and then vanishes. I can't find any documentation on this. Does anyone know how to fix?
View 2 RepliesI just upgraded to Flash 5.5. When I compile for iOS my cursor disappears. I'm using the following code. It worked great when I compiled it on 5.0 but it stopped working with 5.5

in Flash CS4 I have static text like: Line1 and line2 It's in 9 point Arial Regular as a device font. If I set the line spacing below 3.9 the second line dissappears from the compiled SWF file. It still shows in the FLA file. The same thing happens at 6pt but NOT at 5pt or less.
View 1 RepliesI am making a flash movie, using text moving across the screen in semi transparency, sort of as a background. In the center is a white box, and content within that box. The semi transparent text scrolls back and forth throughout the movie. But when the movie loops back to the beginning , the white box and content within it vanish for a second...then reappear as the movie begins again. I don't want that microsecond vanish to happen but I don't know how to prevent it.
View 3 RepliesI've read through several tutorials but I must be doing something wrong on this. I'm using Adobe Flash Pro CS4. I am trying to create a short clip that fades text in over a bacground video. When I create a motion tween on the text track, I'm generating an error and the background video is no longer visible in the preview. Instead, I see the text over the stage background color. It is as if the background video track has switched to wireframe. Here are the steps I've followed:
1. Created Flash File (ActionScript 3.0).
2. Imported Video into the State background layer - it appears as a black image in the it previews fine at that point
3. Created new layer for text and placed text - it previews fine at this point, text is overlaying video
4. I right click on the text block and choose convert to symbol.
5. Next with the play head on the first frame and the Text layer selected I choose Create Motion Tween. This is when AFP throws this error:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference. at fl.video::UIManager/http://www.adobe.com/2007/flash/flvplayback/internal::hookUpCustomComp onents() at [code]...
i found i can get vertical dynamic text block by setting to vertical and then to dynamic. But, then it ends up being horizontal, and if inside a clip, only the letters over another item in clip show. Like veritcal text on a vertical bar gives only the 1 or 2 letters that fit across bar, rest truncated. i've tried embedding text to get this far, but still doesn't work 'all the way' i see online they talk about all scripting for dynamic, vertical text; is that necessary, or am i missing something??

View 3 RepliesI have a flash-application (done with CS4) in which a particular Textbox, which is vertical fails to display characters with a hacek (ˇ) on top. If such a character appears with in a string that is to be shown, it is simply dropped, leaving the string crippled.
This baffles me since characters with hacek work on other (horizontal) textfields in the same .swf with the same Font (Arial) work just fine. I also tried manually telling flash to embed these characters for this textfield, but to no avail. Even entering characters with hacek in the flash IDE works without problems.
I am not very familiar with flash, this application has been developed by a co-worker who is no longer employed here.
got stuck trying to design an automatic vertical text scroller. Here is what I set out to do:
- Have a news ticker like box through which text will be vertically scrolling.
- The textual content will come from an external text file.
- The text in the external file will also have click-able html links.
- When the mouse enters the content area, the scrolling would stop.
- If any link is visible in the content area at that time, the user will be able to click on it.
- When the mouse leaves the content area, the scrolling would continue.
Basically, it's an html marquee which you see in so many pages these days.
The following was my approach to solving the problem. Got very close and then got stuck
- I created a Dynamic Textbox and have it load from the external file. The dynamic textbox has multiline and autoSize set to true. So the size of it grows depending on the content from the external file.
- Next, converted the "textbox with external loading" into a movie clip and named it content_mc.
- Created a rounded rectangle (my viewing area) and converted that to a movie clip called mask_mc.
- On the stage, the content_mc is in one layer (content) and the mask_mc is in another layer (mask).
- Added another layer (action) and on the first frame of the main timeline, I entered the Action Script to set the mask_mc as the mask for content_mc.
- Also in this AS, I align the content_mc top with the mask_mc top so that the content is visible at the start.Then in the content layer, I inserted a movie clip "controller". This clip has two frames and all it does is it moves the _root.content_mc up by a fixed unit until the bottom of content_mc is over the mask_mc top. At that point, it sets the top of the content_mc back to the top of mask_mc.
Since I have little to no flash training, you can understand my excitement when the above steps worked and I got a fairly smooth scrolling text fitted in my viwing window. I could also click on all the links in my text. Yayyy!Then I took on the task of making the scroll stop and resume on mouse enter and leave event. What I did was:
- In the action script on the action layer, I simply defined two content_mc.onRollOver and content_mc.onRollOut functions. In the first I stop the controller movie clip and in the second, I play the controller movie clip.
The above strategy also worked as I wanted but it created a new problem! Whenever the mouse enters the mask area, the mouse pointer turns into a clicking hand cursor (the one you use to click on links); and it doesn't allow me to click on any of the html links anymore! It's almost as if the content_mc movie clip has turned into a button!
Regardless to say, this is unacceptable in my case if I cannot click on the html links in the original text content. I have googled quite a bit and must admit that I haven't had much luck (why else would I be posting here and other places?). I desperately need someone's assistance with solving this. Some of the approaches I have seen on google wouldn't work for me. For example, having invisible buttons for the html links. Of course that wouldn't work since my text is coming from an external text file over which I have no control.
Is there a way we can apply curve to an dynamic text which is in vertical direction?
View 1 RepliesI've tried for hours and days to make my vertical text content scroller working in a flash fake 3d environment with rotationX / Y. But because of vector>bitmap conversion when 3d roationing, the scroller fails to works. I know the stratDrag method fails to work in a 3d environment. other than using PV3D or so ? cause I don't know how to work with PV3D, it's just tooooo complicated to get it for me.
View 1 RepliesCan someone explain why the text of a dynamic text object disappears at runtime when rotated?It happened when I rotated a MovieClip object via actionscript that contained a dynamic text object. So, to test whether this happens all the time, I created a movie clip again with a dynamic text object in it, populated the dynamic text object with a single letter, and rotated it by hand and ran the movie - the letter disappeared.
LOL in a happy, rare accident, I discovered the answer myself. Page 432 of the Flash 8 Actionscript Bible says, "Aside from just allowing text to look the way you want it to look, embedded fonts actually enable your Textfield objects to do some things they wouldn't otherwise do. For example ... a TextField object that uses device fonts (nonembedded fonts) cannot be rotated nor can you change the alpha. But once you embed the font, you can do both of these things."
How: (for dynamic or input text objects) clicking the Embed button in the Property inspector.Note, this will increase the size of your swf. Just embedding the lowercase and uppercase letters from a-z of one font increased the swf filesize from 3-9KB.
tried following the Embed Font example here: http:[url].... exactly with absolutely no results.When I add txtField.embedFonts, the text no longer shows up, and without embedFonts, the fonts are just Times New Roman or something. Regardless, the [Embed source="..."] syntax described in the example does not seem to work. Has ANYONE gotten Embed fonts to work in AS 3.0? Second, when I add wordwrap = true to a text field, the text disappears. (it used to work fine. It stopped around when I started trying to embed the fonts, but it doesn't work even if I remove all embed code.)
View 5 RepliesI have a textfield that is dynamicly created which contains some text and has a textformat applied to it, which works fine, and I have my happy little text field.
the problem comes when I try to change the text and textformat after an event. I am doing it as so:

then the text becomes invisible. I know it is changed because once I rollover the container movieclip, the text appears.
I tried to dispatch a rollover event after I change the text, but no dice.
