I'm obviously doing something fundamentally wrong here, but in CS4, to make an .as file, I just chose to make one and started inserting code.
In CS5, when I chose to do so, or try to open a previous .as file, all my coding is greyed out.
How do I access my code, or add new code?
I've downloaded the Flash CS5 trial and am trying to use the software, but a lot of buttons and symbols are greyed out for me and I don't know why. Here's a typical use case for me:
- Open Flash CS 5
- Create a new Flash AS3 Project
- Try to use the buttons on the right-hand toolbar, but they are greyed out
Also, I can import images to the stage or library, but I cannot click anything or edit their properties.See attached image for a screenshot of the buttons in their disabled, greyed-out state.I can even open an old project made in CS4, but again, I cannot edit any symbols that I've already made.Is there something I need to do to enable the buttons?
Is the a problem with flash cs5's pencil tool because the smoothing button is greyed out is it my syatem ?
View 2 RepliesI was going through the chapter 9 topic of animating 3d elements in Todd Perkins Flash CS4 professional essential training on lynda by opening the file and following along by clicking into the movie clip, but doing so caused me to go into symbol editing mode. When he does it on the video he goes straight into the movie where you can see the other elements on the stage. I right clicked on the movie clip and noticed that edit in place is greyed out. Why can't i get into the movieclip so i can edit the animation while seeing the other elements on the stage? I've researched everywhere and i'm confused how i can be going into symbol editing mode directly from the stage. It is late on a sunday night and i am now questioning my sanity.

View 2 RepliesI installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save.If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition.

These scenes would be individual SWF movies that I could import into my final Flash file in consequential order and when finished I would have a completed Flash Movie. There would be no interaction beyond Play/and replay. Where can I get information on how to construct this and is this a recomended way to do it?

I need to simply create "swf" files from a number of videos I have finished in Premiere Pro 5.5.
These videos are 800 x 600 videos that display at "point-of-sale". The spec is swf and not flv.
(I do not need to do anything else in Flash apart from create the video file with the swf extension.)
i am new with adobe flash and i have made 2 swf files that need to link to one main one, i am not sure what the actions should say. so far my programming for my main swf where i want all the other swfs to open from are:

This file has been supposedly changed from As2 to As3. It seems as if it used to stop when I first got it. But the links didn't work. When I followed troubleshooting protocols, it started looping non-stop.
Please help. I can't seem to attach the flv and the action script files. All I get from the output window is "Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts."
I have downloaded Adobe Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave Player to play some swf files I have downloaded. These files still say that Windows can't open them though and I don't know why. I've tried uninstalling reinstalling etc but the computer doesn't seem to know the Flash Player is there.
View 3 RepliesMy students and I enjoyed importing .mov files and tracing over them as we would embed them in the timeline in flash CS3. This year we upgraded to CS5 and I am finding that we cannot import the .mov files.
Does anyone have a solution for a pipeline like this. Flash seems to want us to convert the files to .flv or something.

View 2 RepliesUsually when I am looking for a specific field name, section of code or variable, I will run a GREP regex search to search through my ASP files, which works great as they are just stored as plain text, however I was wondering if anyone knows of a way to do the same with ".fla" files.
The GREP search looks through all my files in one go and returns a list of files which match the search terms; but wouldn't work on .fla files as the actionscript is not stored as plain text. Possibly this would work if I converted all my ".fla"s to use seperate ".as" files but this would be a lot of work and I'd rather avoid it if possible.
Not sure that I understand how the Reader engine for AS 3.0 handles "load" requests. Following is a problem that I try to solve for a customer: there a three - 3 - swf files, each contains a short video of 10 sec's in full hd, stage is 1920x1080 px, let's call them a,b and c
The request is the following: start with swf a and let it run, loop, and during that time offer the possibility to select or swf b or swf c to run in stead of a when swf b runs, loops, offer the possibility to select or swf a or swf c to run in stead of b idem for swf c or with words: each of the swf's offer the possibility to invoke one of the 2 other swf's.
I tried various code snippits, and when running a it starts b but a contineous to run, so it seems ihe engine does not pass control to b. Maybe I have to put everything in 1 swf? But that is not what the customers want, he wants the 3 swf's.
I have an fla file from about 2001 that I'm trying to open, but it crashes Flash CS4 through Flash CS5.5.
Is there a way to open something this old?
