I am developing and interactive CD application for kids that consists in a menu and two chapters with animations and exercises. To select the chapter I have an "Accordion" style menu with draggable panels. In each chapter panel I have a button which upon being clicked should direct me to the chapters first frame. The problem is it doesn't.

I gathered that it is most probably due to the fact that I have constructed a button in the improper way.I tried to redo a button but it was the same result.I would like to try to access it through the main timeline. What would be the whole block of code to put a function on the button located inside an external SWF which is called in via a UILoader?

I can't figure out how they create clickable buttons around the text that has associated changes. The button even shifts with the text so that it remains in the correct spot as I type in front of it.
I've been using this site for a while as I'm taking flash lessons in my college and right now I am building a portfolio website and am in need of help, so I've decided to come to you for some light. My problem is in the portfolio I'm creating in AS2 I have the photo and video galleries in form of a click'n'drag movie clip that slides sideways. So far, so good. However, when I add buttons to my mc (and that includes the ones in all my video players as well), they don't work at all. I think it has something to do with the function I'm using. Is there any solution for allowing buttons to be clickable? This is the code I'm using directly in the mc:

My site in progress has some large graphical buttons that uses sIFR to display their headings. The structure looks like this:

I'm replacing the <h2> element with sIFR 3, revision 436. Everything works great until I activate sIFR. The font is replaced just fine, but the heading can no longer be clicked even though the rest of the button can. I tried to add another <a> inside the <h2> heading but that broke the whole layout since multiple <a> tags can't be nested. Is there a "correct" way to fix this or should I work around it with something ugly like a z-indexed clickable blank.gif on top of the whole thing? Or is there something else wrong that I've missed?

I have a movieclip on the stage (MC_01) that has a button in it (btn_tip_ows). I need to to get it to work from the main timeline. If I place the button on the main timeline, the following works.

Can anyone explain what are advantages/disadvantages to put the button inside the movie clip vs. to put a button instance directly on the main timeline? My final goal is to have plenty of animation going on inside the button stages.

I have a template that has movieclips within movieclips, and when I create a button (all using AS2) the button will work if I test the scene, but in the whole flash movie it does not work. I also have some buttons located inside a ScrollPane that also do not call correctly.

On the about page of my Flash website, I wanted 7 buttons to navigate to various labels. I just finished the first button. I made it while I was inside the about_mc. It worked well but would NOT navigate. I took the button OUT of the Movie clip and made a separate layer on the about page for buttons and pasted it there and it worked perfect. When I made it inside the mc, is there some different code I should have used other than the standard code for making a button navigate to a frame. I built an addeventlistener and a function. BUT they only worked when the button was "ON TOP" of the mc NOT when it was INSIDE the mc. I have a transition tween on the about_mc and therefore the button does not tween when it is on TOP of the mc only when it is inside the mc.

Im making a scrolling image gallery basically i have 2 movieclips inside a main movieclip, MC_a and MC_b. MC_a animates the scrolling effect of the thumb panel. within which there are 15 buttons. MC_b has 15 large photos arranged in 15 frames. (1 photo per frame).
what i want to do is when i press a button in MC_a it will gotoAndStop at the frame in MC_b displaying the large photo.
I've tried placing script in MC_b in a layer called "action" and extending it to 15 frames:

I was wondering if there was a way to stop a button from being clickable. Lets say the user has been idle on a site for 5 minutes. I want to flash movie to through up a translucent cover on the buttons and make the buttons not clickable.

I am creating a survey in flash to survey people's opinion about the temperature in a building. What I am hoping to do is have a scale which the surveyee can click on (see attached image) with 5 options from Too warm, warm, just right, cool, and too cold, and record where on the scale they click.
For example, if "Just Right" were correlated to an answer of 3 and "Warm" was correlated to an answer of 2, and a user were to click halfway between the two, I would want the recorded value to be 2.5. If they click closer to "Just Right" I want the recoded answer to be 2.8, etc.
It seems that the quick and dirty way I can think of doing this is to create a serious of invisible buttons over my scale which can then tell me where they click, but then I am limited in the granularity of the answer and it would just be a pain to create that many buttons.

On clicking it, it moves playhead to a frame 10 where it should not exist while template button is placed on layer that has frames only 1-5 and it loads a MC that covers it and even has command

Just got started with Flash again after several years of not using it. I am familiar with the layout when I set it to "classic" but for some reason I can see the timeline area, but it is grey and I cannot create any frames or click anything in that area.

View 8 RepliesI have added an on click event to a child object which is not always displayed Its pearent object also has on click events. There are two problems.
1) Whenever I click on the child object the pearents onclick behavior also runs. I do not want this to happen.
2)The child object can be clicked on even if i set its alpha to 0, or set its display property to false or send it to the back of the stage. This means its behavior can be invoked by the user even if it is not visiable I dont want the child object to be clickable when it is not dispayedI dont want the pearent object to be clickable through the child object

I want to add a button with a cross to the header of the accordion which can be clickable. that means i want to display a message when the some one click on that button. i go through many of the samples in the web but couldn't get it done.
