View 1 RepliesI'm trying to figure out if we can use RSLs to contain common UI controls for our next project. I'm running into an organizational issue that I can't quite figure out - how to get the RSLs to work in both a local development/debugging environment, and on a production web environment, with the same exporting/importing URLs.
Here's what my setup would look like. Say I have a main application main.swf, an RSL lib.swf, and a UI module dialog.swf.
Main.swf loads or embeds dialog.swf. lib.swf exports some symbols that dialog.swf imports.
On a local development environment, these swfs are found in folders like so:

Here is the problem. If I set the export/import url for symbols in lib.swf to "assets/lib/lib.swf" (relative to the location of main.swf), the runtime library gets loaded fine in the local environment. But in the web environment, it does not load - the player just shows the "..." graphic indicating it is trying to load.
Alternatively, I can use "http:/myapp.com/assets/lib/lib.swf" as the export/import url. Now, it will work in the web environment. However, in the local environment, dialog.swf will load symbols from the lib.swf that is out on the web, not the one that is local. But I need it to load from the local version, so that designers can muck about with the assets and see the results locally before publishing to the web.
Is there some alternative way to set up the swf's, or way to set the URLs, or some other hoop I can jump through that will make the RSL load properly in either environment without having to manually change URLs all the time?
(Details: I am using Flash Builder 4, CS 5, Action Script 3, Flash Player 10... No Flex! My example omits some details from my actual setup, such as the fact that we are using a preloader to load the main application, and a php script on the web page to start the preloader.)

View 3 RepliesI have what I hope is a fairly straight forward question that I hope you can answer if you write code with a Mac or are at least familiar with the process on a Mac? The person I have been working with to create my photography website uses a PC. Here is the problem. I am trying to use my Mac in order to create frames so that I can add 5 more images to a portfolio that presently has 15 images.
The code is in an index.fla file. If I want to create a new frame in the index.fla, let's say LOAD CODE 381 and want to use the same text that is already present in LOAD CODE 380 but with a few edits, I have no trouble going to the Action-Movie Clip and finding LOAD CODE 380 in the left hand column. The problem is, on a Mac, how do I create frame LOAD CODE 381 and then how do I copy and paste the text from LOAD CODE 380 into LOAD CODE 381? It looks like on a PC one can open LOAD CODE 380 in the Action-Movie Clip, highlight the text then right click on the red rectangular box in the timeline. By doing so (on a PC) one sees a drop down menu that gives the option to "copy key frame". What is the equivalent of the "copy key frame" on a Mac? I can see where on the Mac you can go to Edit >copy. Is this the equivalent of "copy key frame" on a PC? If so, once I "copy" the text how do I create the new LOAD CODE 381 so that I can paste the text into the new frame?

My code for these is below, however, when I test the movie there is a namespace error (copied below). I assume this is because both buttons are trying to use the same variable but I have no idea how to make this work in AS3.

Is it possible to create a flash file, which can be embedded into a website for on-demand viewing and be exported to a cd while maintaing interactivity, that is geared towards an online elearning environment? Basically a client wants a video that is broken down into various chapters with an interactive "course" for each chapter.The interacivity will included answering questions correctly in order to move on to the end of the chapter.

I am a Flex/Java developer, in the process of creating a Financial/Trading website for a start-up company.The default look and feel of Flex (out of the box) is pretty plain and bland (in terms of the default styles). im trying to create an advert box that loads different files from urls contained in an external xml src. The code for the XML loading works well, but the rest of the code does not seem to work.
what im trying to archieve is:
1. get the list of urls from the XML file
2. trigger the loading of these files as soon as the xml file is loaded
3. loop among these files (5 in total), in a given period of time,
4. Each time they are loaded ,the loading bar should show the progress

am i publishing the movie incorrectly? It works great when I preview the flash file (cntrl+enter), but after I publish it and insert it into the html (in dreamweaver), the file shows up and animates perfectly, but when clicked, no link... It doesn't do anything

I used it and it works. way i could specify a btn or mc in the loaded swf that will specify the "click" area where the unload content takes place? Right now if i click anywhere on the loaded swf it unloads (i want that to be specified).

i got this flash with duplicated mc's say...enemy1, enemy2, enemy3. now we all know we can do something such as..

There are twelve buttons that onclick go to a certain page labled in the movie clip "pages." I am trying to figure out how to get buttons 9-12 to be on the pages movie so when people click button 2 the pages will display page2 but with button 9 on it and button 9 has an onclick that goes to page9. I have everything working for the 12 buttons on the first page but when i drag the button to the stage of the movie clip "pages" it does go to that page directed to. I had the correct label names down and everything. The buttons work find if they are on the main scene but don't work in the movie clip. To solve this problem i just kept them on the main page, I may try to put them in the mouse over on the main page to solve this problem. Ok first frame is has this code.
