Flex :: BlazeDS Trading Application - Create A Professional Looking Website?

I am a Flex/Java developer, in the process of creating a Financial/Trading website for a start-up company.The default look and feel of Flex (out of the box) is pretty plain and bland (in terms of the default styles). Can anybody recommend the easiest way for me (as a developer) to make the website look as polished and professional as possible?
What is am looking for is:
A professional style/theme to the website Use of polished images/icons Use of some Flash components for the intro/welcome page. The quickest way to get this styling/images/icons done - should I outsource this to an on-line company?I have been looking at Flash Catalyst as an option but images need to be created first in Photoshop (which as a product I do not know).

I've followed the getting started for BlazeDS. I'm making changes to the Flex code using Flex Builder 3, but I just can't get the changes to show up when I refresh the page on my client. Server and client are separate physical machines, I've even re-started the server hardware. One curious thing, even when I re-started the server I didn't have to re-login to the Tomcat manager page

is it possible to connect to two different BlazeDS servers from the same Flex app? I have already read this question: Can a Flex client app connect to BlazeDS running on a different server? However, it appears to be discussing the possibility of connecting a Flex client to a BlazeDS on a different server but not necessarily to another BlazeDS on a different server.

In attempts I have tried, I get the error mentioned in the second question above: Detected duplicate HTTP-based FlexSessions, generally due to the remote host disabling session cookies. Session cookies must be enabled to manage the client connection correctly.
Is connecting one Flex application to two BlazeDS enabled servers completely impossible? We want to be able to have a "common functionality" BlazeDS server that is used by a number of Flex apps that each have their own local BlazeDS server for their own functionality.
The way I'm currently doing it:
In my mxml file, I'm defining a a channset like so:

The calls work and I can get the data but I'm getting that warning I mentioned in the form of an alert in the Flex application.

I am trying to integrate Flex application to access Rest services (using Jersey) through BlazeDS. I'm able to get Rest + Jersey working (pretty straight forward I guess) and I was able to configure Flex + BlazeDS. I'm looking for help to invoke rest services (different methods) from Flex UI based on the annotations specified such as @Path in my rest service class.

So as you may or may not know, BlazeDS (open source version of LiveCycle Data Services) is a nice way to get your server-side Java and client-side Flex application to play together. Unfortunately, it does have several pitfalls that need to be corrected. I'll try to explain one of them here.
All of BlazeDS's configuration is written via XML files in the flex/ folder of your webapp. The default names are separated for clarity, such as services-config.xml, remoting-config.xml, messaging-config.xml, etc. In these configuration files (particularly services-config.xml), Channels are defined; these setup URIs and objects used to capture and send information between the server and the client. In these config files, it is quite common to use a syntax like so:

Unfortunately, what they don't tell you is that some of these key-in replacements (ie: {context.root}) are not replaced dynamically upon execution but upon compilation of the WAR file you intend to distribute. Obviously not a good idea when switching domains.
So, instead I seek to dynamically define these channels. According to the documentation, that's all good and fine, but it only works if the channel already exists when the webapp is launched. I feel like that sort of defeats the point. So my question is, how do you truly create channels dynamically so that both the client and the server recognize their existence?

I have what I hope is a fairly straight forward question that I hope you can answer if you write code with a Mac or are at least familiar with the process on a Mac? The person I have been working with to create my photography website uses a PC. Here is the problem. I am trying to use my Mac in order to create frames so that I can add 5 more images to a portfolio that presently has 15 images.
The code is in an index.fla file. If I want to create a new frame in the index.fla, let's say LOAD CODE 381 and want to use the same text that is already present in LOAD CODE 380 but with a few edits, I have no trouble going to the Action-Movie Clip and finding LOAD CODE 380 in the left hand column. The problem is, on a Mac, how do I create frame LOAD CODE 381 and then how do I copy and paste the text from LOAD CODE 380 into LOAD CODE 381? It looks like on a PC one can open LOAD CODE 380 in the Action-Movie Clip, highlight the text then right click on the red rectangular box in the timeline. By doing so (on a PC) one sees a drop down menu that gives the option to "copy key frame". What is the equivalent of the "copy key frame" on a Mac? I can see where on the Mac you can go to Edit >copy. Is this the equivalent of "copy key frame" on a PC? If so, once I "copy" the text how do I create the new LOAD CODE 381 so that I can paste the text into the new frame?

Is it possible to deploy my Spring/BlazeDS/Java application to elastic beanstalk? I'm using MyEclipse and built a Java Web Project with the required jar files etc. Do you need to specifically create an AWS Java Web Project - reason I ask is the options to include the BlazeDS files aren't there - so I'm wondering if Spring / BlazeDS is even supported? By default the turnkey blazeds runs through Port 8400 - so I imagine there are some additional tasks required to configure the endpoints to work through port 80?

I wish to create an interactive form in FLASH as part of a website. That is the user enters say width and height numbers in boxes and the form returns a price for that size widget. Is this possible in a FLASH based website? If so is there a specific name for this type of form so I know where to look to get help in creating one?

A while ago, I created a replacement shell to run as a front end for a cybercafe. It was nothing fancy; just a flash movie that had button links to IE and a few trusted applications.
I'm trying to develop it further now and am wondering two things:
1. Is it possible to send an application to a frame within a movie? For example, have a static movie at the top with links, then when a button is pressed, the menu remains but the application opens below without overlapping. I know I can use HTML and frames but really want to keep it all in one movie/swf.
2. Is it possible to build on the above and have some sort of application lister that will allow you to switch between the two applications you have running. For example, a user may open IE, then open Word. Word has now replaced IE and I want the user to have a simple click button to go back to an existing window rather than open another instance from the menu.

Is it possible to create a flash file, which can be embedded into a website for on-demand viewing and be exported to a cd while maintaing interactivity, that is geared towards an online elearning environment? Basically a client wants a video that is broken down into various chapters with an interactive "course" for each chapter.The interacivity will included answering questions correctly in order to move on to the end of the chapter.

I'm trying to create a module for a flex application, and I want to send notifications to clients. I've been looking at the BlazeDS messaging service to push out the notifications to clients, but I want to be able to send certain updates to certain clients. The Flex notification framework doesn't seem to allow this - if we have a field in the message with a value of the user's user id for example, any client could theoretically subscribe to all messages for any given user id, and there's no verification on the server side to make sure that the client that has subscribed is logged in as that user id.Is there something I've missed here, or is the best way to handle this writing my own polling mechanism on the client side?

how to structure the comms of a blazeds/flex game. What I'm trying to achieve is to have x no. of games occuring on the server each of which will contain 2 to 6 players. i think this will involve segmenting a feed, by creating a subtopic. eg game A gets filled with Player A + Player B, a dynamic destination gets created on the server side, and the new destination id gets returned to the clients. Not sure if I have that correct - to give some further background - the main server side code for a 2 player setup is here

Currently, I have a handle on the basic elements of the game, like drawing cards and shuffling. However, I am lost on how to implement the functionalities unique to certain cards.To simplify things, I have a deck class and a card class. The card class includes variables like a card's name and type, and it gets their values by extracting them from a database. But say, if I'm trying to create a Base Set Charizard, how would I store and call his poke-power (read:ability), as it has effects beyond the normal rules of the game and needs its own code.
