I'm using Flash Pro CS5 Win 7 to edit an existing FLA file, the text is suppose to be Arial Regular but it keeps changing to Arial MT. I've tried the embedded text option and selecting Arial Regular but again it keeps reverting back to Arial MT.

View 3 RepliesThe company at which i work has recently upgraded all their design systems to CS5. This has given us endless issues with fonts. The main problem being old content opening up in CS5 reverting to Aria Narrow from either Arial Bold or Arial Regular.We develop elearning courses and do a lot of large batch exports of flash flas so this is causing us plenty of problems beause it is not guranteed that the 100 FLAs we batch publish are going to output the correct font.The majority of these files are old AS2 files and the majortiy of text fields that it occurs on are static ( we are in the process in upgrading to as3).I was just wondering with all the discussions of CS5 fonts flying around whether anyone had any similiar issues or any ideas for a fix.

Is there a way to detect if a dynamic text field that has basic english characters embedded can't display some foreign text, japanese for example?
So I can then switch the text to display in an arial device font text field.

I'm having a strange issue with the Arial font in Flash CS4. I can create a text box and choose the Arial font. That appears to look like regular Arial text. However, if I want to choose a style (italic, bold, bold italic) the text does not change at all. These fonts are loaded on my system and always have been. They work in Flash CS3 and they work in all other programs including Illustrator and Photoshop CS4. In addition to that, all other fonts seem to work just fine including Arial Narrow and the other general system fonts. Arial Narrow allows me to select and apply all the available styles. It seems to be specific to Arial.
This also happens when I open a file that was originally created in CS3 or Flash 8. The font mapping notification does not appear, but if I had a text box that is supposed to be Arial Bold Italic, it automatically changes to look like regular Arial.
I have a (old) Flash Document ".fla" file created in Flash 8.It just has a static textbox with "Hello World"(many more text boxes) in it .(just for the question. )The font set is Arial 12pt Bold (thr. the Flash 8 IDE). When i open the same file in Flash CS4 IDE i get the Missing Font Dialog and then it asks to Map "Arial" to another font.When i map missing "Arial" to "Arial" with style "Regular"..all Arial text boxes change to "Regular",even the one with "Bold" face.I even installed Arial font again but found the same problem?

I think it's that insideCuttOff needs to be smaller, and outsideCutOff needs to be further in the negative direction. But when I do that, there's no much of an effect. Here's what my text looks like now:

When creating an application which needs to be capable of displaying a range of foreign characters we came across a display problem when attempting to display Swedish diacritics. The following sample application works fine using Windows Vista but doesn't display correcting using Windows XP:

Using charmap suggests that both Arial and Verdana on Windows XP lack the necessary diacritic characters and hence don't display correctly whereas in Windows Vista the fonts are complete. The same in standard HTML appears to work correctly however (not sure if the browser is doing something in the background to insert known diacritic characters when it encounters fonts without).
Has anyone encountered a similar issue when displaying diacritics in Flash using Windows XP? I want to avoid embedding Arial/Verdana and unfortunately using Arial Unicode MS is not an option - Verdana must be used to fit with the clients style guidelines.

When a user clicks one of the buttons, I want one of the options in the drop down list to be 'selected', but without the form being submitted.Just to clarify, I have a map of the France where all the French regions are buttons, and next to this I have a form.When a user clicks a region on the map, I want the drop down list in the form to select that region from the list.
View 3 RepliesI am tasked with created a site that handles Japanese characters, and am looking for any insight you can offer for this.My main issue right now is the size spike the site will get if I embed a font like "Arial Unicode MS" with the Kanji character set which has 3174 glyphs. When I compiled an fla with only a textfield and these Japanese characters embed it stands at 731k. So I am looking for options to either eliminate the need to embed the Kanji characters or find a way to limit the number of characters needed to handle the Kanji character set.
1. Which fonts if any come pre-installed on Wins & Mac that natively handle Kanji characters.
2. If there is such a font for Win & Mac does this mean I don't need to embed the Kanji glyphs for the font in a swf, and can be sure any user viewing the site will be able to see the Janji characters, because their OS already can handle displaying Janji characters. For example if I go to a webpage on the internet that has Japanese characters I am able to view the Japanese characters, is this because the browsers themselves have these fonts embedded or is it pulling from my OS to display the Japanese font?
3. If I do need to embed a font to handle the Janji characters do I need to include all 3174 glyphs to cover all possible English equivalents. I read that you can specify a unicode range for a font, believe this only works with CS4 though. I don't know much about unicode ranges let allow the ranges I need for Japanese characters.
I am trying to defeat my psychological block with dynamically loaded fonts in AS3, and I have an annoying problem. I am creating a clock with a textfield and I am loading fonts from a SWF library: the available classes/linkages are "Arial", "ArialBold", "MyriadPro", "MyriadProBold" and "Verdana".This is the line where I get the class from the SWF, and it extracts the class correctly

I posted this question yesterday, with no responses, hoping for better luck today for such a vague problem. Pretty much, I have animated mc buttons, that over the course of the website interaction (various transitions) move around the site area. Unfortunately, after doing their big transition once or twice, they are animating to previous frames actionscript... in other words, if my btnA is in a differenct position due to these transitions, when I click it, it animates "from it's previous position"... does that make sense? Is there anything I can do to be sure that all previous code is dropped for the current frame code? seems odd, but there must be a way to do this cleanly?

I am working on a flash file which i am hopeing to use for a project. I seem to be having a problem with the software. Everytime i make changes to the file and press CTRL + Return to test the moive, it comes up with errors. When i click on the errors to take me to the line of code with the error, it seems to be displaying code from a previous version of the same file which i deleted. When i delete the code and layers agin and then rewrtie the new code and add the new layers again Flash seems to stop responding for like 15 minutes. Once it does respond, i save the file and reopen it everthing seems fine but as soon as i press CTRL + Return the exact same thing happens.
View 10 RepliesI embedded a SWF on a page and have checked it in Dreamweaver by selecting FILE | PREVIEW IN BROWSER. The page works just fine, video plays back and rollover button works perfect. I've then uploaded the SWF,FLV,html page and scripts to my server and when tested, the video wouldn't play. View 3 RepliesI create a file in 5.5, then do a "save as" to create a new file based on the previous file. Make the changes, save it, publish it. Reopen the fla file, and it is not what I saved - it's the file it was "saved as". Needless to say this makes me very unhappy, as I must redo each file again. Sometimes that fails again! May go back to v5.

View 1 RepliesSo, I have some basic actionscript code. It's a legacy site, so I'm using AS2. The line of code simply does this:
myField.text = "some text"
So, I select the text field on the stage, then ensure the font is embedded. All the glyphs I want are checked, but then when I compile and test, the fonts don't show up when the code is executed. Instead, the textfield is blank! What happened?! Where did the text go?
I should mention that the .swf which I compile is loaded into another parent .swf during runtime. If that parent .swf does not contain embedded fonts, is that why it's broken?
I created a motion preset of a 3D text animation that made the text swing back and forth like a gate with the hinge on the far left side. However, when I apply the motion preset to other text, the text moves to a new location and the text swings closer to the center than the far left side. Moving the text only creates a travel path that further complicates matters.
what am I doing wrong with the motion preset? How can I save something into a preset and apply it to other things and have the animation work the way it was designed?

I need the ability to click the Bold button and it bolds or unbolds at the cursor so if I hit the bold button what I type from that point on will be bold until I hit the button again and then it goes back to regular. I am able to change it to bold or unbold by selecting the text and clicking the button but I also need to do it without selecting.
I have an alpha tween on my mcs. I've applied a Back.easeOut, Back.easeIn transition on them but it doesn't work, it prevents the mcs from tweening at all.Strangely it used to work and it's only 'Back' as it works fine with other tweens such as Strong.easeOut. Any ideas??
UPDATE: ok I think the problem is with Back.easeIn. It only seems to allow Back.easeOut
I have a series of dynamic text fields that do not show text when published. The fonts for these text fields are embedded and I do not get any errors on publishing. The project worked perfectly in CS4, but now in CS5, I had to re-embed all of the fonts in the dynamic text fields, but they won't show. What could be the problem?
View 2 RepliesI have a static textfield using Myriad Pro bold font that, when set to STATIC TEXT works absolutely fine, in the correct font. If I set it to DYNAMIC TEXT and test the SWF, the text shows up as a system font; not Myriad Pro If I set it to EMBED CHARACTERS the text doesn't show up at all on ANY system, whether the font is installed or not.
I have tried adding the font to the Library and using that "Family" for Properties>Character in my dynamic text box, but get the same results as when I don't set that to EMBED CHARACTGERS. I've tried selecting the font for the textfield as both the standard OS Font, as well as the one with the Asterisk next to it, but get the same results both ways. The library font is set to "export for actionscript" and "on frame 1". I don't think it's an issue with the font not being available, as I'm able to see it when setting textfield to STATIC type, and I use the font in other CS4 products (Photoshop, etc.).
I think the title says it all. I'm building website and I've come half way now just to notice that my clients cant see my font that supposed to be there. What I've learned so far is that in static text fields, flash should embed it itself since I can't reference to it + embedFonts property not working, how can I fix this problem? Anyone had anything similar?hat are common mistakes? I'm pretty new at all of this.
View 9 RepliesI bought this template a while back ago and now I am going to use it, the thing is the contact form is not accepting some characters like "q,w,e,r,t,y,@" etc. I remeber I had this issue a while back ago and I embeded the fonts and that fixed the issue, but with this one, aint working, I embeded all the fonts the template uses and it is not working.When I export the movie I always get the message "Fonts should be embedded for any text that may be edited at runtime, other than text with the "Use Device Fonts" setting. Use the Text > Font Embedding command to embed fonts."I went to text> Font Embedding> I added pretty much all the characters for the fonts but I am still getting the message and still I am unable to add characters into the contact form.
