I create a file in 5.5, then do a "save as" to create a new file based on the previous file. Make the changes, save it, publish it. Reopen the fla file, and it is not what I saved - it's the file it was "saved as". Needless to say this makes me very unhappy, as I must redo each file again. Sometimes that fails again! May go back to v5.
View 19 RepliesI am working on a flash file which i am hopeing to use for a project. I seem to be having a problem with the software. Everytime i make changes to the file and press CTRL + Return to test the moive, it comes up with errors. When i click on the errors to take me to the line of code with the error, it seems to be displaying code from a previous version of the same file which i deleted. When i delete the code and layers agin and then rewrtie the new code and add the new layers again Flash seems to stop responding for like 15 minutes. Once it does respond, i save the file and reopen it everthing seems fine but as soon as i press CTRL + Return the exact same thing happens.

2) Append to XML

Well, why when I load the same XML file does it read the file without the appendend nodes I just added?I can open the XML file in Dreamweaver and see the appended nodes, but once I load the XML back into the .SWF, it clears the appended nodes and only reads the original nodes again..[code]My .swf is local at this point and PHP and XML files are on a server running PHP5.Apparently the PHP script is correct because it DOES save the file correctly. I can save as many <persons /> as I want. But when I close the Flash .swf the URLLoader reads the original XML data again. Not sure how that's possible?When I change the location of the XML to load into the URLLoader it changes so I know it's reading the same file I saved to..
The company at which i work has recently upgraded all their design systems to CS5. This has given us endless issues with fonts. The main problem being old content opening up in CS5 reverting to Aria Narrow from either Arial Bold or Arial Regular.We develop elearning courses and do a lot of large batch exports of flash flas so this is causing us plenty of problems beause it is not guranteed that the 100 FLAs we batch publish are going to output the correct font.The majority of these files are old AS2 files and the majortiy of text fields that it occurs on are static ( we are in the process in upgrading to as3).I was just wondering with all the discussions of CS5 fonts flying around whether anyone had any similiar issues or any ideas for a fix.

View 2 RepliesI'd like to draw key frames in Flash, just simple drawings/skelettons using the pen tool, basically to create the movement itself. After that, I want to export the frames that I drew as images to Photoshop in order to apply texture and colour, and then put them back into Flash again, without tampering with the Flash doc I've already created, since the animation is already done. I want the file(s) that I'm working with to remain the same files throughout the process, from Flash to Photoshop and back to Flash again, like the way InDesign works. Is this even possible?
If this isn't possible at all, I guess the alternative is to draw in Photoshop and then import the drawings into Flash, put them in order and then make any eventual changes after you've created the animation in Flash, this is less smooth though still possible. But here emerges (sort of) the same problem:
When I import images from Photoshop, create animation out of them, and then realize I have to make some changes in the original PS pic file I head back to PS to correct it. But it just doesn't work the way I want it to... If I modify the pic file in PS, then use the "update" alternative in Flash Library, Flash just tells me that the file can't be found, and does not update the image. If I choose the "edit in PS"-alternative from right clicking on a symbol that is in the library, the file opens as a .png file in PS, not as my original file! It seems to me that Flash is creating its own library, not using the existing document. Is there anyway to go around this? How do I make Flash use my PS file which allows me to change it as much as I want (as with InDesign)?

After loading the image I can apply filters like color transform or grayscale etc and then I want to save the image with the filter applied. View 1 RepliesI have a Flash Professional CS5 project in Flash Builder 4, i'm trying to find a way to prevent it from publishing the FLA everytime I save, I only want it to publish when I actually debug or run it.
Is this possible, it's driving me nuts, I can't do inline checking without saving, but saving means I have to wait for the FLA to publish.
When i save the file as an .swf file to view it in my browser the video gets really big (sized the flash document 250x240 px) . How can i easily control my flash video sizes?
another thing: When im doing a video and work with things that are outside of my white document (in the gray area) for instance things that are to be faded into the document and so on. These things also show up in outside of my video when i view it in my browser.
I'm using Flash Pro CS5 Win 7 to edit an existing FLA file, the text is suppose to be Arial Regular but it keeps changing to Arial MT. I've tried the embedded text option and selecting Arial Regular but again it keeps reverting back to Arial MT.

I need to be able to save some data to the SWF itself, NOT to the local computer.
To be more specific, I need to store a set of URL's, but they also need to be added by the file, so...
Lets say i have a button that when you click, will make a text box appear, and you type in some urls such as:

I then have a button that says "Save" and this will save these 3 URL's. I then would have the SAME SWF display these URL's (these will be URLs of Images). The important part is, these 3 URLs MUST BE READ by everyone who views the swf afterwards, so if I were to enter some URLS of Images, when someone else views the page, they will see the images that i entered. This is why it cannot be a cookie, as their computer will not see my cookie.
Even if the data cant be stored in the SWF itself, i will need some way to load this information where ever the swf is viewed.
When ever I try to save a cs4 file as CS5 the adobe flash cs5 will stop responding for no reasons
also, some times and only for some files when I save the cs4 file as uncompressed cs5 and then save that uncompressed cs5 to normal cs5 the conversion works and some times not.
ofcourse any of the cs5 files cannot be saved as cs3 or cs2 for no reasons..
p/s: microsoft office can be saved to any previous versions..

How do I save/export/publish (not sure of the correct terminology) this .fla file so that my end result is an image that I can insert (as an image) into an email (outlook) and send. The recipient should be able to click on the image and activate the movie.

Basically I contacted the authors of a study for a copy of a driving game that records data to an external file (I think this is where shared objects come in?). Unfortunately, I cannot find the output file anywhere on my machine (I am running Windows 7 - have looked in the appropriate directories). After downloading a trial version of CS3, I have edited the screens I needed but have not been able to understand the code. I'm having an odd problem that I can't seem to resolve. I'm updating some old animations (created around 2004-2005). Most have gone without a hitch, however one file has been a problem.
First the specs: Windows 7 64bit, Master Collection CS5.5. All updated.
The problem with the file:
I can open it just fine, test the movie, etc. If I try to save the document, it fails, saying "Unable to save the document as...". I can save the file as a CS4 document, which seems to work OK. However, I need to move the contents into a new document. If I try to Copy the laters, Flash immediately crashes.

View 27 RepliesI have some stock footage of smoke on a black background (.mov format) that I would like to convert to a flash file with a transparent background, which I will be overlaying over a PNG image on a webpage.
I have managed to remove the black background in After Effects using a plugin called UnMult, but when I try to render as a FLV file in AE, even though I check the option to preserve the alpha channel and encode using the On2 VP6 codec, I still get a black background.
So I am wondering what else to try, whether it be with AE or Flash CS4. Is there a way of achieving this effect by directly importing the MOV file into Flash CS4 and removing the black background there, or do I have to use AE, and if so, how to achieve the effect I am looking for?
When I save a .fla on my macbook (snow leopard OS) the main Flash CS4 application toolbar (the one with the minimize, maximize, hide buttons on it) disappears after the save dialogue has gone.To get it back I have to re-launch the app.I have checked for software updates but nothing seems to be addressing this issue.
View 3 RepliesI see that the background music in my Flash site is located in a symbol called muz When I click the properties of this symbol, the sound file's location is listed as.flashsoundmuz.wav I couldn't find that sound sub-folder in the flash folder nor could I find the file. I tried doing a search to look for the muz.wav file in my computer but it could not be found. Does anyone know how I can find and save this file?

Pretty much, I have animated mc buttons, that over the course of the website interaction (various transitions) move around the site area. Unfortunately, after doing their big transition once or twice, they are animating to previous frames actionscript... in other words, if my btnA is in a differenct position due to these transitions, when I click it, it animates "from it's previous position"... does that make sense? Is there anything I can do to be sure that all previous code is dropped for the current frame code? seems odd, but there must be a way to do this cleanly?

I can save files in CS5 as CS4 so they can be read at college (by Flash) but I have to do it via the "save as" every time I save. After a couple of times, it get rather irritating. Is it possible for me to save in the usual way (as if it was a CS5 document) without the save as dialog every time I save my work?

It says "Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long. I checked the files and neither the destination file nor the drive locked. The file is named index and always has been named that. What am I doing wrong?

View 0 RepliesI have been using Flash for a while Flash 8 and now Flash 9 I dont know too much about the program, someone wrote the program for me and I update it. When ever I publish the Site to upload to my server I have to go into the HTML file and insert <center> twice to get the site to be center on the web.It is not a big deal to edit the HTML file but every time I do it I figure there must be some button i dont have checked in Flash to just do it automatically.Seems like with such a huge and powerful program that must be an option that I am missing.
