View 2 Replieshow to remove a mc when another mc is clicked.The movie clips are pages and if you check the link you will see the pages aren't removed they simply stay on the page when the new mc appears.This is the relevant part of the .as which appears to have a remove code but doesn't seem to take affect.

I use this simple code to hide a movie clip but it does not work and i dont get any error mesage:detailsMovieClip_mc.address_mc.visible = false;I have made sure that the movie clip is refreenced properly with the above instance names, but still does not work. What would be the most likley reasons for this not to work?

i however, want to do this via xml, so that i could have my programmer colleague create a php to call for this database.
i've a scene, i put there 4 movie clips, which representing the links (i use telltarget)... i don'T know how to hide the movie, after it loads... or when user click on another links, that produce another movieclip...get it ? i also dunno how to tell it... when i click one of it.. a movieclip showed up, and when next i click another one, the first won't dissapeared, so its stacked up.. and it goes again and again

In first.swf i have two movie clips with instance names ena and dyo I want in main.swf in the third frame to hide these movie clips of first.swf (only the movie clips not the whole .swf) or to move them (change x and y values) so they practically hide.

I want to dynically open this movie clip and move it to a specific location (x,y) on the main timeline on top of everything else.
Then I want to draw lines on that new movie clip that display on top of the image on that movie clip.
how to draw the lines, (well at least I think I do)

If I go to publish settings and untick include hidden layers on the flash tab, when I test movie, my cars don't appear along the guide lines at all and just pop into view as movie ends. How does one hide turned off visibility layers during test movie without affecting hidden guide lines ?

View 4 RepliesCS3 Flash - Complete newbie to Flash and I'm trying to change an existing flash piece.It consists of 4 different text statements that appear on a Black background - the first appears and stays on-screen for 10 secs, then it starts to blur and fade away in about a sec, and then the next statement appears, etc, etc., and the whole lot loops.The 4 statements appear as Video Clips (Symbols?) in the library.I need to add a new statement, which means there will be 5 statements. I duplicated one of the library items and renamed it, which seems to have worked fine... but I cannot then work out how I insert that video clip into the Timeline and still have the same visual effects and timing as the existing ones? I can insert a blank frame, but then I can only drop the new video clip text onto that one frame.I've tried copying and pasting a whole set of frames, and then go in and change the text. Which I thought had worked, but then discovered that it also changed the original frames.... now understand that's because they are just instances and any change will affect the master Video Clip!
So can anyone advise if I can insert my newly added and renamed video clip into the timeframe and create the same effect as the others?Please keep any advice as idiot-proof as possible as this is my first venture into Flash... not finding it as intuitive as I hoped, spent 6hrs to date just trying trial and error without any real success.
I am making a web site in flash in which I have multiple movie clips.I have mc_buttonMenu on the main timeline.Inside of mc_buttonMenu, I have 3 buttons that are all button symbols.From the main timeline, I have a movie clip called mc_allPages.In this movie clip, I have a few layers.I have the content layer.This layer controls how my pages display.I have another layer called labels.I labeled frames 1 to 10 as 'home' and layers 11 to 20 as 'contactUs'.I have another layer in mc_allPages called actions.I put a stop(); on frame 10 and frame 20 on this layer.I want to be able to control the movie clip mc_allPages from within the movie clip mc_buttonMenu.I put some action script in various places, but it never worked.I tried this action script:

I tried placing that code on the main timeline, inside mc_allPages, inside mc_buttonMenu and split up into both buttons appropriately for btn_home and btn_contactUs.Sometimes the animation would stop on frame 10 and sometimes it would just play through to frame 20 and ignore the stop(); I put on frame 10 inside the mc_allPages movie clip.However, whenever I pressed the button ( btn_contactUs ), it never went to the frame labeled "contactUs" in the allPages movie clip.
I'm making a room escape game and I've run into a problem. When an item gets added to the inventory, I'd like the user to be able to click on the item to affect another object (e.g. clicking screwdriver hides screws and displays other image) however when I add the code to the item, if the item is clicked and it's nowhere near the object it affects, the image pops up and it looks really stupid.
So what I'd like to be able to do, possibly using if and else statements or whatever's easiest, is to only have the inventory item be clickable if the movie clip of the object is affects is visible on the stage.
I'm trying to create a movie clip on my my main timeline that has a movie clip button within it that pops up a box in the middle of the site that contains text and links. On Frame 1 I have the Up state, frame 2 the roll over state, and frame 3 my Down State (where Box appears).

I am creating a Movie Clip player interface. You can click on a thumbnail and load an external SWF. At the end of that movie clip, I would like to load another SWF, it's just a logo animation filler that plays until the next thumbnail is clicked.

But it loads the new movie right on top of the old one.How do I get it unload the first one?
I have buttons that load SWF files. when i test the SWF they have a solid background. However, if i use a button to open the swf they have transparent/no background, yet you can still see the contents of the swf.
How do i get the SWF to have a solid background when opened by buttons?
I have some buttons that load an external flash file into the container movie clip with this code:

So it plays the tweening out animation of the file that's already loaded, then loads the new file, playing the tweening in animation. However, currently the container movie clip is empty when the flash movie is played. I want to be able to have some content already loaded in it, but when I use the container .loadMovie("start.swf") code, it just keeps loading start.swf into it when any of the other buttons are clicked. Is there a way I can have content load when the flash movie is started, but when any of the buttons are clicked, for it to tween out, and basically, never reappear?
I made a little trivia game that loads questions from an xml file. The problem is, if you leave the app and come back to it, it starts you back at the start screen again. Is there anyway to overwrite this, or is it the same as refreshing a browser page with a Flash animation on it, it'll always keep restarting?
View 5 RepliesFirstly, although I've been using Flash on and off for years (since CS3) I don't use it very often so I apologise if my issue seems simplistic.Basically, I used Flash CS3 for a few years to create basic animations for clients, involving simple scrolling text, without any problems.Recently I upgraded to the CS4 Master Suite and then CS5 Master Suite within a couple of days of each other and I now need to use Flash to make a change to an old animation.When I opened the CS3 file it appears as expected and I made the changes to the text (changing a word or two within a line of type).When I right clicked on the type relevant frames within the timeline I noticed that there is now more than one version of tween available, and that classic tween was already selected (I think I better buy a new teach yourself Flash CS5 book!)
Anyway, that was allI needed to do so I initially pressed return and the text scrolled across the stage as expected.But when I clicked on CONTROL / TEST MOVIE / TEST (or cmd+Return on my Mac) the SWF file that appears is static and the text does not scroll at all.If I publish the movie using Actionscript 3 or 2 the resulting SWF file is also totally static. But if I drop the SWF file into the relevant website folder and view it through Dreamweaver's browser view facility it works perfectly and scrolls just as expected.Equally, opening it using the Opera browser works too.
I've tried altering the CS3 file and testing the movie in Flash CS4 and Flash CS5 but the same thing happens.It's a bit time wasting and inefficient wanting to test an animation as a SWF file by double clicking on it and only being shown a static image.Is this a well known problem as I couldn't find any mention of it during my search?

View 3 RepliesI'm attempting to use the movieClipLoader to load a file onto an instance of a class derived from movieclip. For some reason, this doesn't seem to work, because after it successfully loads, the array that contains these derived class instances suddenly become movie clips and lose all their derived variables (tracing them resutls in 'undefined').So I thought there must be another way. Perhaps there is a way to copy the image data from one movie clip to another, or someone suggested taking a snap shot of the first movie clip and then applying it to the second as a bitmap.
