Jun 13, 2011I made a little trivia game that loads questions from an xml file. The problem is, if you leave the app and come back to it, it starts you back at the start screen again. Is there anyway to overwrite this, or is it the same as refreshing a browser page with a Flash animation on it, it'll always keep restarting?

Nov 21, 2011Firstly, although I've been using Flash on and off for years (since CS3) I don't use it very often so I apologise if my issue seems simplistic.Basically, I used Flash CS3 for a few years to create basic animations for clients, involving simple scrolling text, without any problems.Recently I upgraded to the CS4 Master Suite and then CS5 Master Suite within a couple of days of each other and I now need to use Flash to make a change to an old animation.When I opened the CS3 file it appears as expected and I made the changes to the text (changing a word or two within a line of type).When I right clicked on the type relevant frames within the timeline I noticed that there is now more than one version of tween available, and that classic tween was already selected (I think I better buy a new teach yourself Flash CS5 book!)
Anyway, that was allI needed to do so I initially pressed return and the text scrolled across the stage as expected.But when I clicked on CONTROL / TEST MOVIE / TEST (or cmd+Return on my Mac) the SWF file that appears is static and the text does not scroll at all.If I publish the movie using Actionscript 3 or 2 the resulting SWF file is also totally static. But if I drop the SWF file into the relevant website folder and view it through Dreamweaver's browser view facility it works perfectly and scrolls just as expected.Equally, opening it using the Opera browser works too.
I've tried altering the CS3 file and testing the movie in Flash CS4 and Flash CS5 but the same thing happens.It's a bit time wasting and inefficient wanting to test an animation as a SWF file by double clicking on it and only being shown a static image.Is this a well known problem as I couldn't find any mention of it during my search?

Jul 28, 2009I am trying to access a function in a MovieClip that has been added to the stage. Right after loading in the function, I create a function that calls the function in the recently added MovieClip. The compiler does not recognize the Function and when I go into debug mode it shows up as null. I've tried declaring the function in the MovieClip using 3 different methods, but I get the same result.

What I find strange is that when I declare the function on the stage, it looks just fine and I can even see it (as a Function object) in the debug panel.
ActionScript 3.0 :: Interactive Flash Site And Recently Installed Papervision?
Sep 25, 2009I am making an interactive Flash site and recently installed Papervision. I thought it would be cool to have a spinning 3D cube (using Papervision imports and so on). Unfortunately when I click on the 'Links' page (the 'links' keyframe with the AS3 actions) the cube appears, but when I got back to other pages (for example Homepage) the cube is still there!!
I was wondering how I unload/remove/un-import/?? this so that it works ONLY on that one keyframe.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Graphics Clear() Doesn't Clear Bitmap Data From BeginBitmapFill()?
Jul 30, 2011I'm working on a game whose background has many layers that each scroll at different speeds.
Inside each layer I have a Sprite, I've started using graphics.beginBitmapFill, but what I've found is that the graphics.clear() function doesn't actually clear the contents set by the previous call to graphics.begin.BitmapFill. Each frame, I adjust the matrix to shift the layer as needed. Then, I call graphics.clear() and graphics.beginBitmapFill() with the adjusted matrix. Since my layers have alphas in the bitmap, I can see the contents that was drawn the previous frame.

Nov 28, 2010A new glitch (amongst the millions I already have) in CS4, is that recently i will be unable to clear keyframes. I usualy do this by selecting the keyframes in the timeline, right clicking and selecting 'clear keyframes' but it's greyed out frequently, I can't work out why this is and I don't know of a cure/ work around for this? I tend to just go in and out of symbols until it works. this is sucbh a pain.

Mar 29, 2011I don't want Flash to store the video and image files it pulls in when I test publish the swf. Somewhere it's keeping those files in cache, making it impossible to test a realistic download situation ( such as loading indicators, buffering bars, etc ) because the 'loading' file is immediately available in its entirety due to being stored in cache.

Feb 2, 2012I was editing an FLA file which was Read Only due to our versioning system (P4) however, when I did not have a file checked out (therefore was Read Only), I did not get an error when I saved the file (there was even a save progress bar!) - yet when I opened the file again, all the information I had "Saved" was not there. I tested this out on several other non-checked out files (read-only files) and I was still able to hit "save" on all of them - but it did not actually save the file. In none of these instances was I alerted that I was trying to edit a read only file.

Jul 23, 2009On this page are listed Source, Library, and External Library lists. I am working on a large flash project with hundreds of files. It appears that CS4 caches a copy of my fla's similarily named folders here, EVERY time I publish my files. These lists are now hundreds and hundreds of items long. I want to clear these lists, but the only option I can find is the minus sign.
Is there a way to wipe these lists clean, or, does anyone know an external xml file or such (i have serached), where this data is stored so I can manually remove it.

But if I don't work on Flash Builder or Flash CS5 for several minutes, Flash crashes everytime ! I have never worked once on the combo Flash CS5 / Flash builder 4 without having Flash crashing !It is very annoying, and a huge waste of time

Jun 22, 2010i've been working with flash for a long time, but there's still something that i don't quite think i'm understanding fully. i see many of these sophisticated photography sites programmed so that the photo fills the whole screen (such asand the photo is crisp and clear on any sized monitor.i know how to set the site to be programmed to fill 100% of the screen, and i know how to "trace bitmap" inside of flash so that the photos work a little better. they then act more like vector images than bitmaps which tend to pixelate when proportions are enlarged. but when i use the "trace bitmap" feature, the flash file often becomes very large size in terms of KB, even when some detailed smaller images are traced.

Mar 20, 2010I installed Flash CS4 Professional trial version for school use. It wouldn't install successfully. I deleted the font files the troubleshooting guide said to, tried again, but gave up. (I'm afraid to run regedit and mess up everything else I have loaded.) (I previously had the Fireworks CS4 trial version loaded, then uninstalled it.) My problem is this- I have it running, but it saves files and then they can't be opened, even if I use the save function often- it's worse when I create the file, test the movie and then save.If I try to open it again, it says "cannot open file." Once it opened a copy I had saved, and it appeared blank, even though it was 544 kb file size. I only need it for a few more days, one more assignment and I'm afraid my previous files are corrupt. I have Windows Vista Home Edition.

I need to simply create "swf" files from a number of videos I have finished in Premiere Pro 5.5.
These videos are 800 x 600 videos that display at "point-of-sale". The spec is swf and not flv.
(I do not need to do anything else in Flash apart from create the video file with the swf extension.)

Swf Opened Directly In Browser Web
Feb 8, 2010I have some problems with flash display in the browser. If i open with the browser a file .swf it appears smaller than the original version. I can see it in the correct dimensions only if I use the Full Sceen option (F11). How can I correct this problem to let the user get the original version?

Feb 17, 2009I had written movie player for my website few months ago and I'm upgrading it by adding some new functionality from time to time. Not long ago I've observed quite curious behavior of my browser. If my site is opened in one of tabs in browser, the cursor is blinking, from arrow to handcursor, when I'm rolling over links. Interesting is that it happens in every tab opened in browser, if only one of them contains my website. Closing my site returns every other tab to normality. I tried opening my site with blocked this one .swf file (my player) and also was everything ok. I've tested this on few different browsers and systems and it seems to happen in MacOS (tested in Safari, FF2, FF3 and Opera) Windows (in FF2, FF3, Safari, Opera IE6, IE7 and Chrome), no matter if installed version of FlashPlayer is 9 or 10. On Ubuntu Linux it doesn't happen in FF3, nor in Opera (only this two browsers tested).
I've built my player in Flash CS3, using AS2. Unfortunately, I don't know in which version of my application the problem has occurred. Of course I could examine whole code line by line, but that's about 2.5k lines and it is not the work I want to do if not necessary... I've searched lot of forums, but I found solution nowhere. Maybe someone had spotted such a strange browser behavior or simply does know, what may cause it?

ActionScript 2.0 :: Close Last Opened Door?
Mar 14, 2012I'm setting up a scenario with 12 doors, each with unique (but not sequential) instance names. I've set up a variable that, when a door is clicked, it takes on the instance name of that door. This is working.When clicked, the door movieclip plays to a midpoint in it's own timeline and stops (open position). You can close it by clicking the now opened door which returns it to frame one of it's timeline.Now, I'm trying to make the next door clicked check first to see if the previously clicked door is still open. If it is, it will make the previously open door play() <----- this will hit the end of the open door's timeline which resets it to frame one > and then play itself and set it's instance name as the new "lastOpened" door variable.I was able to manually do it (trying to avoid overlap with neighboring doors) by just directly referring to the instance names so I thought it'd be as simple as dropping the instance name and referring to the variable.[code]
