Professional :: If Statement To Check If Boolean Is True?
Aug 28, 2011
i want my if statement to check if boolean is true so here is my code.
name:Boolean = new Boolean();
mc1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, myMouseEvent);function myMouseEvent(event:MouseEvent):void{ name:Boolean = true; if(name:Boolean = true) { //code to run....
}
Syntax error:expecting right paren before colon.
probably a simple explanation that i cannot this of.

I made this movie in actionscript 2 and it needs a trigger. I have a counter, an integer called totalcount, and when that totalcount reaches 9, the program should jump to another scene.So I tried to put following code into the main timeline:
if (totalcount == 9) {
gotoAndPlay....
}
But even though I put a dynamic textbox on the stage with variable name totalcount, it works but it is never triggered.

ActionScript Code:
var homeShown:Boolean; //Default of false
var contactShown:Boolean; //Default of false
homeButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, navFunction()); //Listen for the home button to be clicked
contactButton.addEventListener(MousEvent.CLICK, navFunction()); //Listen for the contact button to be clicked
[Code] .....
Can I not do this, it does not seem to work, the value of homeShown and contactShown never get altered and they should, so it always returns a value of true.

This code is written in simple ActionScript, but I'm assuming this problem of mine would occur in all languages that have boolean datatypes. I'm simply clicking the stage so that my boolean variable reverses its value and than traces/prints/logs it's new value. However, it's always tracing true instead of switching between true and false for each mouse click.
var myBool:Boolean;
stage.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, mouseClickHandler);
function mouseClickHandler(evt:MouseEvent):void {
changeBoolean(myBool);
} function changeBoolean(boolean:Boolean):void {
boolean = !boolean;
trace(boolean);
}

I am trying to switch a boolean variable to true after a mouse click on a movieclip.
I want an animation to continue after the user has clicked both btn1 and btn2.
After researching this topic it appears that changing a variable inside a function will only effect code within that function and not the code outside of it - therefore my main Btn1Var and Btn2Var do not update to flase.
ActionScript Code:
stop()
var btn1Var:Boolean = false;
var btn2Var:Boolean = false;
[Code].....
Is there an easy way to change the original variable for each button to true after being clicked?

Should I do it like this:
if (DeviceDisplay.IsSpeedAvailable == false){
DeviceDisplay.IsSpeedAvailable = true;
}
or
DeviceDisplay.IsSpeedAvailable = true;
I thought I saw that flex/as3 does an internal check on booleans before they are assigned to make sure you are re-assigning stuff but I can't find it to confirm.

I'm new to AS3 and Flash as a whole, but a decent programmer in Java and C,C#. The problem I have is this: No matter what I do, that "IF" statement ALWAYS executes, even if it shouldn't, and musn't, as said by the trace(isfirst), which outputs a 0, which means the IF is not supposed to execute. AKA: It displays first! and 0 every time it gets to frame 61, thus bringing me to the home page no matter what.

How do you get a True/False statement to be recognized inside a movie clip with a button on the main timeline as the control. I want my movie clip to stop at the last frame if the movie clip reaches the last frame. Otherwise gotoAndStop at the first frame of the clip. I was using
on (press) {
_root.m1.gotoAndPlay(2);
_root.m2.gotoAndPlay(1);

I just want a function to return true, but after a LoadVars.onLoad.event. Am I right in assuuming that the return in the onLoad = function below relates ONLY to that function? What I want is for the sendLockCheck()to return true depending on the if statement within the onLoad.
function sendLockCheck() {
var lockCheckResult_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();
var lockCheckSend_lv:LoadVars = new LoadVars();[code].....

The gotoAndPlay option isn't kicking in here. The object "sam_MC" proceeds along the specified root. But when the if statement containing gotoAndPlay becomes true, sam_MC simply stops moving and no other action is taken. When sam_MC's x coordinate becomes less or greater than a specified amount, I want the flash movie to restart. My code is located on the first frame of a layer I have named "actions." Here it is.

I am receiving xml from a webservice call that contains a nil="true":[code]I used the Flex DataService (webservice) wizard to create the service objects for the cacheEntry component. This object will be serialized later on a different webservice call and stored in a database.I set a breakpoint on the set SystemFK method in the service object. It appears that the value passed in was an empty string!Allowing this value to be an empty string will cause problems in the webservice implementation in Java on the other side. Since the database value was null it is expecting a null in return, If I avoid setting this value, the serviceObject should send back a null which will make the database happy.How can I detect that a nil = true is present in the XML in order to avoid setting this value?

I am trying to use a mouseevent.startdrag to move a particular movieclip, but I don't know how to go about checking the object in question. The code below doesn't seem to work with either ==Object(MCsquare) or just ==MCsquare.
function onStartDrag(evt:MouseEvent):void
{
trace(evt.target);
[Code]....
How can I run a check to see if the target object is MCsquare?

I have the following code.
Code:
var codes_txt;
locatie_mc.visible = false;
check_mc.visible = false;[code]....
When someone enters text in the inputfield (Instancename= codes_txt) it has to be checked.
If it is good(GoedeCode) kaarten_mc has to go to the next frame.
If it isn't good(FouteCode) kaarten_mc has to go to the previous frame.
If the code does not excist they have to get an error: code does not excist.
It has to start checking after the function CheckCode.
Now I don't know how to check the inputfield. In theory I know what to do but I don't know how to put it into AS3.

checking an XML file for a specific node.
Example:
<vid
flv="videoName"
thumb="thumbnail.jpg"
title="Video Title"
[code]....
The first vid node contains a path to a logo graphic, I then need to check in my ActionScript if there is a logo there or not, and to do something if there is(display the logo) I can trace out the logo path so I thought I could run a simple if/else to check if there is anything in that node and if so to do something:
private function thumbOver(e:MouseEvent = null):void
{
trace("
");
[code]....
Now I've tried everything, but it will always trace out "Does have a logo" no matter what I do. I tried:
if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == "")
if (tabData[tabID].video[e.target.id].@logo == null)
However I get the same results?

Just starting to delve into as3. I have made a flash website with four navigation buttons (home, products, about, contact). When user clicks on "products", an external movie clip is loaded and everything works fine. User clicks any button after that, and myLoader.unloadAndStop, the swf is removed when you navigate away from "products". However, if the "home", "about", or "contact" buttons are clicked first (before the external swf has been loaded), it of course, throws the 1009 error.I need some sort of if/else statement to check whether or not the external swf is loaded, remove it if it is, and if not, just navigate to the "page" clicked.[code]

I'm trying to check to see if an object exists by using a simple if statement.
if (object.name) {
//Do this
}
However, if the object doesn't exist, I get this error, "Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties" - which I understand is because the object doesn't exist. Is there a better way to check to see if an object exists?

In a setup like this is it possible to check the cumulative status of all onLoadInit?
for(var i:Number = 0; i < limit; i++) {
var mcLoader:MovieClipLoader = new MovieClipLoader();
var mclListener:Object = new Object();
mclListener.onLoadInit = function(mc:MovieClip) {
[Code]....
Initially I was thinking that I could pass an array of Boolean's, but I'm not really sure where to add that checkpoint, because a flash frame doesn't keep looping. Would I have to add it to an onEnterFrame()?

I want to check if an input text field is empty. I only managed to do it this way;
mytext = textfield.text;
if(mytext != "") .....
The problem with this approach is that I also want to exclude variables with whitespaces.
I tried; if(!isEmpty(mytext) )..... but that didnt work.

I have an array that I want to check with a "setInterval"-triggered function.Is there a way to do something like an "IF"-check on all entries / fields of an array? The array contains the feedback from another function, so each field can only be "true" or "false".
What I want is something like this:
IF (all values from array X == true) {
// [stuff]
}
Only way I can think of is to set a dummy variable to "true", do a for-loop through the array and check for "false" and if any of the entries is "false", the dummy will be set to "false", too- otherwise it will remain "true"...
