View 3 RepliesJust finally making the transition from AS2 to AS3.All i need to do at this point is make two buttons which will control the movie to goto next frame and previous frame. I have gotten how to make the buttons go to a specified frame number and also a button to go to a specified external url but no success in making a simple next/previous pair of buttons.
stop();
but1.addEventListener(
MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP,
[code]....
What is the script used to go to previous frame viewed as opposed to (see below) previous frame on timeline?

View 3 Repliesim a novice in AS3 it is possible to place 2 next frame button in a single AS3 code/frame this is my code
up1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, gotoNextFrame);
function gotoNextFrame(evt:Event){
,leftbody.nextFrame();
}
[code]....
Basically, I have a flash app with various frames, each frame contains a "help" button, which when clicked takes the user to one seperate frame with various informative instructions on it. The help button is like a universal tool incase the users need help.
Now, no matter what frame the user is on, if they click the help button, sure enough, it takes them to the "help" frame. The big problem I have, is that I cannot fathom a way to make the users RETURN to the exact frame they came from.
For instance, the user is viewing a frame in the app called "Question 2", they get stuck, they click on the "help" button, it takes them to the "help" page. After veiwing the instructions, they need to return to the question 2 frame, possibly by clicking a "back" button of some description. Likewise if they were on a frame called "Question 3" - they need to return to this frame if they click the help button.
In a nutshell, I need to create a button that takes the user back to the previous frame from the "help" frame, like a dynamic link back or something.
I have a long timeline with a series of slides arranged along it with a labeled frame at the beginning of each slide.These slides do not have any standardized length so instead of counting out frames and jumping a set number I am trying to navigate with my previous and next buttons to frame labels stored in an array.
This works GREAT!Or rather...it works great if you're rapidly hitting the Next and Previous buttons to step through the area.The problem comes when you sit and try to watch the whole thing play out and then try to use the next button.If you have passed framelabel2 and hit the next button it returns you to framelabel2.If you have passed framelabel3 and hit the next button it returns you to framelabel2. Clearly the problem is that it does not know it has gone past framelabel1 and is thus gotoandplay-ing the next frame in the array...which is 2.I need to make it check its current position in the array before adding 1 and advancing the playhead.
var fLabels:Array = new Array("start1", "start2", "start3", "start4", "start5", "start6", "start7");
var cLabel:Number = 1;
function nextPlayClick(evt:MouseEvent):void {[code].....
I'm trying to create a "back" button, but when the user clicks on this button I want the animations to go in reverse and then go to the frame that it is calling. so for example i have 5 notes, what happens first is that "note 1" is on the stage then you click on 'next' and then "note 2" slides in from the bottom and pushes "note 1" up and out of the frame and stops and shows 'back' and 'next' buttons. what i am trying to do is, if the user clicks on 'back' , I want the movie to rewind and have "note 1" slide back down. Or if they click on 'next' 2 will be pushed up and 3 is revealed the same way 2 came in.
View 5 RepliesI have an image sequence on my timeline in Flash.I also have two buttons: forwards-button and backwards-button.I would like the timeline to play constantly forward, when the mouse is held over the forwards button.And I would like the timeline to play constantly backwards when the mouse is held over the backwards button.My attempts so far have failed: I can get the button to work only for one step at a time (and then I need to bring the mouse on and off the button again for it to move to the next frame).I need to have the sequence play forwards/ backwards the whole time that the mouse is over the button.
View 6 RepliesI'm making an app in flash as3, but there is a bug in my code. (i guess)
-I can go from frame 1 --> frame 2
-I can go from frame 2 --> frame 3
If i try to go from, let's say frame 3 --> 2, I get this message:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.Why cant I go to a previous frame on my timeline?
I have various movies clip within a movie and my back (mc = arr2_mc) and next (mc = arr1_mc) buttons are on the main scene.This is on my main scene on a first frame
ActionScript Code:
movieclip.prototype.playBackwards = function(arg){
if(arguments.length>0) {[code]....
when it goes back, it goes back frame by frame without stopping but I want it to go only to previous Scene. instead of going to previous frame.Do i have to create a unique button? which i did but i didn't work?
I need to stop at frame 720 and gotoandplay frame 227 without clicking buttons.
View 2 RepliesI have a flash movie with 11 frames and 5 layers. Each of the frames has AS attached to it and all of them start with:
stop();
Now the frame labeled "play" has a button on it, that onRelease sends the movie to the next frame with: gotoAndStop("spin");
That frame further more send it to one of the other frames at random with another gotoAndStop(), which have a stop() and a sendAndLoad on them.
However once it's reached this point, if you roll your mouse over the movie, it flickers and shows flashes of the "play" frame (the one with the button on it).
I can't figure it out, none of the movie clips or buttons in the movie have any actionscript attached to them.
I've tried to delete four of the layers and only keeping the one with the action script on it (and keyframes on every frame). But still it does it.
I have a project that have lots of Scenes (50 or so with lots of buttons that link to movies, in most cases I have several buttons linking to the same movie) So..I created a scene called "movies".I have about 90 movies on each frame (90 blank keyframes) with a stop action , FLV Move Progressive download, and a back Button on each framewhen the user clicks on a that back button I want the program to go back where the user just was, Not the Previous Frame with in the timeline or scene.
View 1 RepliesIn a SWF file, when I am using the following code to move backwards to a previous frame, it is incredibly slow -- Taking around 2 seconds. Where as moving forward to next frame takes 30-40 milli seconds.
[Code]...
I've got a movieclip acting as a button. Code on the button itself handles roll-over/-out states, and I define an onRelease function in the main timeline as follows:
[Code]...
This code takes the movie back to the first frame and works on the third frame. For some reason, though, the same code on the fifth frame has no effect. The button doesn't do anything. I have tried using the same button, I tried inserting a new keyframe with a new button, renaming the button, etc. and for some reason I just can't get it to work on the fifth frame. If it helps to visualize, I am essentially making a menu. The first frame contains buttons to take you to submenus, located on following slides. This button to go back to the original menu is on each frame with a submenu, but for some reason only works on one of them.
so i have a simple project where I have my actions script on each button itself.I'd like to have one actionscript file on the main timeline controlling everything instead of having to drill down to change the AS for a button.I have two scenes. Scene none has a button forcing to scene 2. When i put code on main timeline it broke my button that is on Scene 2 that allows me to jump around in that timeline to different frame labels.[code]
View 3 RepliesI have a movieclip that contains two frames, each frame contains a different set of buttons.
it seems that i cannot add the event listeners to buttons that are not in my current viewed frame.
so.. problem one: is there a way to add event listeners to all the elements in the movieclip even if the elements are in a different frame.
problem two: after I added an event listener to some elements in current frame and then I move forward to the next frame and go back to the same frame, all the event listeners are removed and i need to initialize them again. is there a way to resolve the issue without the need to re-initialize the event listeners ?
have 1 button inbeded in a movie clip named mcintroclp that is on frame 1 of my main timeline, Frame 2 is labeled port_btn on the main timeline. In the timeline of the movie clip mcintroclp I've put the code:
stop();
function buttonClick(event:MouseEvent):void
{

I'm making a small site in flash which contains some basic scripting, and I ran into a problem. I'm trying to make 2 buttons (<<< and >>>) to browse through a certain part of this site, and clicking the button would bring you to the previous/next frame in the timeline.My script in these frames is as follows:
stop();
achteruit.onRelease = function() {
_root.gotoAndPlay(prevFrame);
[code].....
I have a opening movieclip that starts playing for my background and then I have two buttons that come up on moues over event, that if clicked on start one of my two longer Movie Clips that I have as progressive download through a flvplayer on Key frame 2 & 3. I have all that working but I want it to go back to the start or keyframe 1 when the clip is done playing so I can use the same opening menu to click on the second movie clip can some one give me any tips on how to get to go back to the start when the movie is done.
View 2 RepliesI've been following the book "Beggining Flash Programing for Dummies" and I have come up to a part where I create a very simple game.
The script involved in the frames are FRAME here:
stop();
btnGoThere.onRelease = function(){ _root.gotoAndStop("there");
} //end event handler
Frame there
btnGoHere.onRelease = function(){ _root.gotoAndStop("here");} // end release
When I test the movie and click the button, the frames don't seem to change.
I am making a frame by frame animation, where I draw a character, make a new frame and use the onion skin to slightly move my character. Is there a way to make a certain part faster than others? I made a character prepare to kick someone, but since i was doing it frame by frame it looks slow. So instead of taking out frames and making it look choppy, how do I make a certain part faster or increase its FPS? I tried making a new scene and changing its FPS, but that still changes the overall FPS.
View 6 RepliesI making an animation for a preloader.In the animation, a 'line' draws a picuture.There are many lines,and I would like a mask to follow the lines so that it appears that they are being drawn.There are so many that it would be difficult to do this manually by moving a mask frame by frame with motion tweens.
View 5 RepliesI have a gallery of 3-4 pages that I have added nextFrame and prevFrame navigation to successfully but now I'd like to add some simple transitions to make it look more slick- like a fade or a fly (this is for a website, if all I needed was the buttons I could have just made them links in Dreamweaver).[code]
View 0 RepliesSo I have a frame labeled 'init' and a button called _exit. I want _exit on click to keep going back until it reaches 'init'
I'm guessing something like this but it doesn't work:
[AS]_exit.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK , function(e:Event):void
{
if(currentFrame!='init'){
gotoAndPlay(currentFrame-1)
}
});
[/AS]
Currently I have a single movie clip and next/ previous buttons attached to this movie clip. The image changes every 9 frames. Currently I have the code set to change at every frame. How do I get it so it changes at every 9 frames????

I'm building a flash application where the user can play multiple 30 sec .flv movies (one at a time) in slowmotion by pressing or holding down the left and right arrows keys.The user can hold/press "keypress right" to move to the next (key)frame and "keypress left" to move to the previous (key)frame in the .flv files.I have tested embeeding one .flv movie to the stage and it's working fine.But since I will be using many flv's I want to load the .flv's dynamiclly (on button clicks) using netstream or FLVPlayer. Would it be possible to step beetween keyframes in the same way if the .flv's are loaded dynamiclly? Or, must I embeed each .flv file into separate swf's and then dynamiclly load the swf's to my main stage?
View 1 RepliesI'm trying to do a work around for a 9-slice animation problem, [URL] and I'm doing a shape tween within a MC... but when I place the animated movieclip on the stage, it displays the first frame of the animated movieclip, and it would be much more useful for it to display the LAST frame of the animation. I feel like there was some way of choosing the stage-display frame of the movieclip in the past, but can't find any way of doing this in CS5?
View 6 RepliesI have about 2 minutes of real life footage.
I need to put this in a "flash container" and make it advance frame by frame every time the UP key is pressed.
The faster the UP key is pressed, the faster the film should advance.
Accelleration and decelleration should seem "natural" (not bumpy and sudden).
