Professional :: Saving Local Data In Flash?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm using Flash CS4 & Actionscript 3.0 to create a grid with different objects that a user can move with the mouse. This is a standalone application meant to be used on a Windows machine. Is there a way to download and save the user's responses (viz. location of mouse, type of object clicked, etc.) onto the local computer without using the Flash Debugger?

I came across an article [URL] which states that it is possible to save local data onto a user's computer without a backend script (e.g. php) in Flash Player 10 but the article doesn't really say how this is done.

Why is you can read data from a locally stored XML file but not update or add data to it. how absurd a design would that be, it simply wouldn't be logical!

Professional :: Saving And Loading Data To/from SWF?

Jul 23, 2010

I have created a simple flash animation for my employer. I basically have a square that changes color depending on which of three buttons are clicked. This is replicated about 30 times on the page. There is also about 15 circles that have a toggle button created so that when you click on the circle, they change between two colors. As I said, a very simple application.

Now, I need to save the data so that whenever someone new opens the swf, the current color combination is displayed. My way of thinking, with my limited AS3 experience, is that each button click, in addition to changing the color of a movie clip, should also send the data to a server. Then when someone opens the application fresh, I can use the URLLoader to load the most current data.

Am I on the right track, or am I missing it completely? I think I can figure out the URLLoader, but what code would I use to create the text file or xml file?Here is a snippet of my code:

var rtmColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;
var okColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;
var usColor:ColorTransform = f13335.transform.colorTransform;

[code].....

By clicking on either the rtm_13335, ok_13335, or us_13335 buttons, they will change the f13335 movie clip to the appropriate color (blue, green, or red). The default color is green.

What I would like to do is make the movie clip red, for example, then another person opens the swf, and the movie clip is red as opposed to the default green because I saved the current state to a text or xml file.

Professional :: Saving Data To Server Via SWF?

Jul 26, 2010

I have in mind a very basic swf file that allows someone to enter data (via dynamic text box), submit this data (via php), which in turns saves it as a file on the Server. This file (.txt) would be used to populate text on the main site. Most of this seems quite straight forward, and standard practice, apart from actually saving the data as a particular file and on the server (or overriding an existing file), which I'm sure comes up against problems such as FTP access and everything else, but I was wondering if someone might have an insight on how this could be done?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Saving Variables To Local File?

Oct 26, 2011

I was given the task of altering a Flash animation (no AS) in a way that it would collect data from WSDL, write it to a text file and then use that data each subsequent time it runs.

You see, the Flash animation is part of a playlist (digital signage) and has a set duration which doesn't allow for network problems while retrieving data from WSDL. So while I got it to work fine by just displaying the WSDL data directly - it sometimes times out.

I have the retrieving from WSDL part down (flex), I can even read stuff from .txt files, but can't do the middle part - writing the variables into a .txt file.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Upload Image And Saving It To The Local Map?

Mar 2, 2011

how do you upload the image for temporary savings and then save it down to the local map?

My Situation: Making an flash website for my father in law and we got a server/domain which has got no database... Which make it impossible to basicly just save it to a database.

so I will make a admin place where he can go on and save the image to a map specified. and then it will upload the images by it self...

So how do I move the image from the local computer to the server where the website is. He wount have access to the server so he can't manually go in and put the images into the folder he needs an admin way of the website to save the images into the folder by remote access.

var xml : XML = <save><instruments/></save>;
var fileRef:FileReference = new FileReference();
fileRef.save(xml,"NewFileName.xml");

I've tried saving the data as byteArray first n saving it in a xml file. That didnt work. I've flash player 10 installed and I m working in Flash Professional CS5. I have also used a hex editor and changed my swf file's 7th and 8th bits from 09 to some A0 as directed in a website but I m always getting an error which is

1061: Call to a possibly undefined method save through a reference with static type flash.net:FileReference.

Flex :: Saving And Loading Image To Local SQLite BLOB ?

Sep 8, 2011

I need to be able to save and load images into an SQLite database using Flex 4.5 for a mobile application. The use case is this:

Inside the view there is a spark Image object with a URL as a source

When user clicks button, the Image is saved to an SQLite db inside a BLOB field.

In a separate Image, the source is set to the ByteArray stored in the db.

The biggest question so far is this: where do I get the ByteArray for a loaded Image? I've tried debugging and inspecting Image, BitmapImage, and BitMapData but there's no sign of the byte array.... perhaps it's inside the ContentLoader? But that's null unless I enable caching.

I've done some research and there are no complete examples for how to handle this. I've written a simple View that anyone can copy and paste into a new project. It will compile without errors and can be used for testing. I will update this code as I get the answers I need so that anyone can have a fully working example of this workflow.The only caveat: I used a synchronous connection to the DB to avoid complicating the code with event handlers, I wanted to keep it as simple as possible.I will only mark this question as answered once it is fully functioning both ways.

UPDATE SEPT. 09 2011: The code below is now fully functioning in both directions (save and load). Here are some of the things I've learned: It turns out that the ByteArray of a spark Image can be found inside the LoaderInfo of the image itself. Like this:

image.loaderInfo.bytes

However, trying to set this ByteArray as the source of another image ( image2.source = image1.loaderInfo.bytes) results in this security error: Error #3226: Cannot import a SWF file when LoaderContext.allowCodeImport is false.Which is too bad because it would save so much time and processing power.the workaround is to encode the ByteArray using either a JPEGEncoder or a PNGEncoder. I used the JPEGEncoder which produces much smaller files. Here's how:

var encoder:JPEGEncoder = new JPEGEncoder(75);
var imageByteArray:ByteArray = encoder.encode(imageToSave.bitmapData);

Now the problem is saving these bytes to the DB. Saving them as they are now will not work once we read them out, I'm not sure why. So the solution is to encode them into a base64 string like this:

var baseEncoder:Base64Encoder = new Base64Encoder();
baseEncoder.encodeBytes(imageByteArray);
var encodedBytes:String = baseEncoder.toString();

So now just save that string into the BLOB field and later read it out. However, you have to decode it from a base64 string to a ByteArray like this:

var encodedBytes:String = result.data[0].imagedata;
var baseDecoder:Base64Decoder = new Base64Decoder();
baseDecoder.decode(encodedBytes);
var byteArray:ByteArray = baseDecoder.toByteArray();

Now assign the bytearray as the source of your image and you're done. Simple right?if you find any optimizations or alternative ways to do this.I will respond and keep this code updated if need be.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Saving Flash Data Into New Row In CSV/ Excel?

Oct 20, 2009

Half way through;user saves the answers to a CSV file to a location.then continue the test and save the 2nd part to the same location (different file name). The next person completes the same test, and theoretically saves in the same location OVERWRITING the file. HOW IT SHOULD WORK when they overwrite the file, it SHOULD add it to the next ROW in the excel (csv)document, not overwriting the WHOLE file. In the end, you would (in theory) have a number of rows in one excel document, each row, a different user who completed the test The issue is: on the MAC computer, this works (im not sure if it's because the previous developer developed it on a MAC) however when I play it or move it to windows computer; It overwrites the whole CSV file, and doesn't add it in the rows.Here is the main code (half way through) for the first save:

Code:
stop();
qNum.text="Q 11-13";

Flash :: Getting Data Into Excel On Local Computer?

Jun 25, 2006

I have pretty good basic "action script" skills for developing flash files and movies, but I don't know how to do dynamic things with asp, aspx, etc. I have a local application that runs form my computer and is not connected to the internet. The application keeps track of button clicks on each buttton as separate variables. Here is my question ... each time the flash movie runs and buttons are clicked, I want to record the clicks on each button (which exist in the application at runtime) and save them to something like an excel spreadsheeet or access database. Any easy way to do this without getting into server-side stuff?

Data Integration :: Creating And Saving Data

Aug 20, 2011

I'd like to know if there's a way to take data entered into a field in flash, save it, and call it later via an object.I don't want anyone to walk me through it if there is, that's not what I'm asking. I'm just asking what I need to know in order to do this. I'd like to build a certain flash app that takes information (such as a name, paragraph, and/or sentence) saves it, and can then be recalled when a user clicks a button... even if the user has closed out the application.I'm still relatively new to flash, I know enough to get by on basic projects, but I want to expand my knowledge so I don't end up stuck in a beginners rut.Would this require using PHP and Flash? Or can it be done entirely in flash via exporting data to a designated external file?

Flash :: Professional - Saving Files In Pro CS5

I have a couple of Flash CS5 users who are having problems saving files. They can open the file, edit/make changes to the file and save it and from all appearances the save has been successful - the save progress bar has popped up and completed and everything "looks" ok.

However the file changes were not saved. This problem is intermittent, however if it is occuring in the current flash "session" then it will affect all save actions performed - including attempting to save the existing file under a new filename. I've checked for obvious problems on the PC including disk errors and readonly files and so on but I'm otherwise at a loss to explain why this is happening?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Share Data Between 2 Local Flash Applications And Use Dynamically?

Feb 19, 2012

I work in a theatre and I'm looking to create a seat map that can be shown to members of the public as they book their seats, so they can see where they are going to be sitting. The main problem I've come up against is that the person viewing the application, will not be using it. I need the Box Office clerk to be able to input data, and then the seating plan shows the seats on a second monitor (public facing)

What I thought of doing was to create 2 flash applications and used Shared Objects to pass data from one to the other. In the Clerk application, they would input the seats that are being requested and click Submit (or whatever). In the Public application, these seats would then be highlighted. Ideally, another dynamic image would change to show the view from that general area of seating.
