ActionScript 3.0 :: Share Data Between 2 Local Flash Applications And Use Dynamically?

Feb 19, 2012

I work in a theatre and I'm looking to create a seat map that can be shown to members of the public as they book their seats, so they can see where they are going to be sitting. The main problem I've come up against is that the person viewing the application, will not be using it. I need the Box Office clerk to be able to input data, and then the seating plan shows the seats on a second monitor (public facing)

What I thought of doing was to create 2 flash applications and used Shared Objects to pass data from one to the other. In the Clerk application, they would input the seats that are being requested and click Submit (or whatever). In the Public application, these seats would then be highlighted. Ideally, another dynamic image would change to show the view from that general area of seating.

Flash :: Playing FLV Files On Local Share Drive From Intranet Site?

Jul 1, 2010

We would like to build a flash video player into our corporate intranet site, currently we are evaluating JW Player and have come across and issue accessing the FLV files stored on a mirrored share drive that all users have access to on the local intranet. From what I can tell the Adobe flash plugin will not allow a SWF file hosted 'online' (intranet) to access a shared directory that the user has access to. Is there any way around this?

alright.. recently i needed to share data between different flash .swfs on a homepage.. so i tried to use Shared Objects to do so. sofar its fine.. i tried it .. and as long as the data is stored on my harddisk. the sharedObject "cookies" work fine.. but when i put the site online.. they simply dont work anymore..

could this have something to do with security settings of the browser used?.. doesnt a web browser allow flash to access the harddisk to read and write shared objects.. is there another.. simpler and more reliable way to send data from one .swf file to another..?? (without using php -> my webserver doesnt support this sofar )

Flash :: Share Cookie / Data Between Multiple Domains And Swf's

Jan 4, 2010

I am trying to create a login system where a user would be able to login inside of one flash game on say, [URL], and then that same login data would be preserved for all the games on [URL] and also the games on [URL] and [URL] I am new to shared objects in flash so if anybody knows of a way to do this in either php, as3, html, js (or a mixture of all) then that would be great.

(PS. I would prefer not to use a method that requires a javascript bridge to retrieve cookies as this is impossible for games that are played on game-portal sites where only a swf file is used)

Professional :: Allow Other Applications To Use Vector Image Data In Flash CS5?

Mar 30, 2011

Specific to Flash Professional CS5. With its export options greatly reduced, there seems to be no way to make Flash graphics accessible by other programs. Is there any workaround?Currently, Flash can output two kinds of vector images: SWF and FXG, neither of which seem to be importable by most applications, including Fireworks and Illustrator (which write to FXG but not read from it), and Catalyst doesn't seem to write to anything other than what Builder uses. In other words, I know no way to export Flash files to vector formats (besides using Flash CS4).

Share Data Between Components In Flex?

Jul 9, 2009

I have a Flex application that I'm working on for a new job. It's sort of a training wheels application -- I'm learning the language, and this isn't an app that needs to talk to a service in order to do its job. There are a few instances of combo boxes throughout the application that share the same set of possible values (say, a selection of states: "In Progress", "Rejected", "Complete") that I want to have use the same data source.

What is the best way to manage this?

Actionscript 3.0 :: Share XML Data Between Custom Classes?

Apr 26, 2011

I have an application where I'm loading in XML data externally. What i'm trying to figure out is the best way to store this data in my application so that I can pass the relevant XML or data to my custom classes.

Basically I have a navigation and gallery class I have written both of which are instantiated on the document class, I would like to pass them each their corresponding XML. My question is whether I should store or seperate the xml into objects in the document class first, or simply pass each class its own xml node? Is there another/more preferable way to handle XML data between custom classes?

Flash :: Getting Data Into Excel On Local Computer?

Jun 25, 2006

I have pretty good basic "action script" skills for developing flash files and movies, but I don't know how to do dynamic things with asp, aspx, etc. I have a local application that runs form my computer and is not connected to the internet. The application keeps track of button clicks on each buttton as separate variables. Here is my question ... each time the flash movie runs and buttons are clicked, I want to record the clicks on each button (which exist in the application at runtime) and save them to something like an excel spreadsheeet or access database. Any easy way to do this without getting into server-side stuff?

Professional :: Saving Local Data In Flash?

Jan 20, 2010

I'm using Flash CS4 & Actionscript 3.0 to create a grid with different objects that a user can move with the mouse. This is a standalone application meant to be used on a Windows machine. Is there a way to download and save the user's responses (viz. location of mouse, type of object clicked, etc.) onto the local computer without using the Flash Debugger?

I came across an article [URL] which states that it is possible to save local data onto a user's computer without a backend script (e.g. php) in Flash Player 10 but the article doesn't really say how this is done.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Store And Parse/share XML Data Between Classes?

Apr 26, 2011

I've been working in as3 for quite a while now, trying various methods of loading in XML and parsing it between custom classes - from storing the XML data using objects, storing it in arrays and then parsing it to my custom classes, or parsing XML nodes directly between their relevant classes. how best to store and parse data from XML throughout my classes.

Should I be extracting it all in the document class first, into arrays or objects, and then parsing the array or object to the relevant class? Or simply parsing the XML node that relates to the class and extracting the data there?I've also heard that looping through XML and storing the data in multi-dimentional arrays before parsing it, is the way to go.. some have also suggested using a separate public data class or singleton class to store all the variable data from xml.. and referencing it globally in each class.

I am seeing repeated comments on this discussion forum that it's not possible to save data from Flash into a locally stored XML file . . . but there must be a way to do this. Why is you can read data from a locally stored XML file but not update or add data to it. how absurd a design would that be, it simply wouldn't be logical!

Flash :: Execute An External .exe From A Local .swf Using A Local XML Socket Server (C#)

Jan 7, 2012

I'm developing a game add-on/plugin which replaces a built in feature of an online game. The game loads an .swf therefore, my solution also has to be an swf for it to work 'in-game'.

I would like to be able to have the user press a button in the custom .swf I am making - and this would open an external application (amongst other things). I.e. if there was a button that said Notepad, it would open Notepad.exe on the machine.

My initial thinking was that i could have a XML Socket server 'daemon' runnning (c#) , which i could connect to with flash - however, as both the swf and the daemon are local, flash complained and gave this error: "Error #2010: Local-with-filesystem SWF files are not permitted to use sockets."

The only way i know to fix this - is to change the security settings of flash - not very user friendly!

So! Any thoughts on how I could otherwise go about this? I was thinking a custom http server could do the trick (connected with URLRequest) although i'm not too sure.

ActionScript 2.0 :: How To Select File From Local Disk Dynamically

Feb 22, 2004

I want to do a stand alone application in wich you can select a mp3 from local disk with Flash MX. I've been searching for a function or a method who allows to open a "browser window" or to have a string with the filenames but I haven't find nothing. I also have searched for an argument for fscommand but nothing. Does someone know if some function exists in javascript to give a string with the filenames of a folder? And in this case, how to integrate it in actionscript? I know that I can use a explorer to do that with javascript, but I need to do it without browsers.
