Professional :: Troubleshooting In Highly Restricted Network Environment?
Mar 29, 2011
Looking for any help you might be able to give me with this one. Recently upgraded from Flash CS3 to Flash CS5 Pro. When I publish a movie produced exclusively with CS5, the resulting SWF will work everywhere but inside my company's highly restricted/locked down network. When I attempt to load the SWF in a browser from within the network, all I get is what appears to be the standard Flash preloader - the 5 little dots that crawl across the middle of the screen.
I've confirmed there's no IE version error, the machines have the newest version of Flash Player; the only difference is the network. What could be preventing the SWF from reaching the browser? Is there any esoteric publishing setting I can use in CS5 pro that I should try?

I have the following scenario:
One application JEE / Flex 4 running on a tomcat, inside my Flex layer I have a iFrame passing a url to an ip of my internal network (http:url....) which is another application running within an industrial PLC.When access this app from within my internal network works fine, but when I try to access this iFrame to an external network in my home for example have a timeout error onhttp:[url].........
I believe this error occurs because the flex client is trying to run this url as I was in a internal network.Is there any way to run this url from an external network?

Error #2101: The String passed to URLVariables.decode() must be a URL-encoded query string containing name/value pairsI run into this problem frequently when handling MySQL queries inside of Flash. I can usually figure out the problem, but the amount of time it takes is incredible sometimes. Part of the problem is that I have a hard time pinpointing where the problem is. The reason for that is that as far as I know, there is no way to see the String being passed that is causing the problem. First, is there a way to see this String, and second, if not, how do you typically troubleshoot this error?
For more details: Normally, I am sending data via POST to a PHP script which runs a MySQL query and returns the results. For simplicity and ease of use on my end, I got in the habit of forming the queries in ActionScript and sending the query as a variable to the PHP script, so all the PHP script does is run it (I know its not the best practice). There are a number of reasons for getting the 2001 error. For instance this morning I encountered a 406 : Not Acceptable error every time I sent a query over POST that included a WHERE statement in it. SELECT * FROM table was fine. SELECT * FROM table WHERE userName=something was not (As a side note, I am still puzzled by this as in a different swf on the same server in a different folder, it is running the exact same queries in the exact same method using the exact same PHP code (in a different file) just fine. For now, I'll just stick with the probably better practice of forming the queries in the PHP rather than in the ActionScript). It was difficult to figure out even what the error was on the server since when I navigateToURL() instead of URLLoader.load() all the POST data gets sent as GET and its hard to piece apart if the problem has something to do with the fact that PHP isn't accessing the variable anymore or something else like a security restriction from certain queries to prevent cross-site scripting (which I assume was happening this time).

I'm currently on a Windows 7 64bits system and I've got this unsolved problem of "Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash" pop-up at Flash CS5 launch. This error (apparently relied to AS3 compiling machine) also appears during SWF compilation (so the compilation is bugged and the SWF is unusable) I've googled it and tried every piece of answer but none of them worked :
- Re-install Flash or Java (32 & 64 bits)
- Delete CLASSPATH in environment variables
- Reduce (or raise ?!) -Xmx128M environment variable
- Launch application with XP SP3 compatibility
Is anyone here had the same problem and succeed to pass through in any kind of way

I'm loading an external XML file when in the Flash development environment. ActionScript 3.0 (CS3) accesses the XML file using URLLoader. Everything is fine until I have to make changes to the XML file. When testing the Flash application while in the development environment, it does not see the changes I made to the XML file, because the URLLoader is somehow caching the results. Thus, the XML file looks exactly the same. This is very frustrating. Is there any way I can blow out this cache so that URLLoader is forced to load the XML file? Currently, I either have to re-start the Flash environment or change the name of the XML file.

We have 10 Windows computers on a small unmanaged gigabit network with a DD-WRT Linksys WRT-54GS router and Dlink 2208 hubs, and were having problems with the network dieing, and nobody able to reach the internet or other computers on the network. It started happening suddenly. There are additionally 3 VOIP lines on this network too and they would be killed.
In troubleshooting, I could see an enormous amount of activity coming from one section of the network. Disconnnecting this segment brought the network back online and functioning correctly. Further tracing based on the flashing lights on the front of the hubs narrowed the problem to one computer, a new Windows XP-64 bit computer. When I brought up the Local Area Connection Status in Windows, I could see an enormous number of packets being sent.
Close to a million packets per second were being sent from this computer.Adobe Flash Player (ver 10,1,82,76) was taking a tremendous amount of CPU time for an idle computer, and killing this in task manager resulted in the network coming back alive immediately. Is this a known problem with Adobe Flash going nuclear and killing an entire network?

I manage a number of academic computer labs, three of which are Mac OS X 10.5.8 units with Adobe Flash CS5 installed. Users log in using AD credentials and the client computers are managed with settings in OD Workgroup Manager (MCX records). The AD plugin is set to not force local home directories and users' home directories are located on network storage. ~/Library/Caches/* has been redirected locally, but no other folders are redirected.
Users have been reporting an issue where Flash sometimes appears to freeze during loading. I've been told this has been happening for about two semesters, but I was not aware of the issue until today. It sounds like students have been powering off the machines and logging back in, and hoping Flash will work on that attempt. When a 'freeze' is encountered the Flash splash screen appears and the status below the "Adobe Flash Professional CS5" text states it is "Copying First Run Files..." Checking the console, I can see that Flash appears to be attempting to access files, but is encountering issues. Dozens of times, I see errors like the following:
11/3/11 3:17:41 PM /Applications/Adobe Flash CS5/Adobe Flash CS5.app/Contents/MacOS/Adobe Flash CS5[2801] Allocator race detected: transaction is not verified for -112/2 - Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS5/en_US/Configuration/ProcScripts/svg/LineBrushArt10.svg [code]....
Messages like these, but listing different files, have been going on since I launched Flash at 11/3/11 3:06 PM.

I have 2 moveclip called view_mc and restricted and button called btn_scale.
When the user click and drag btn_scale, it resizes the view_mc where the width and height of view_mc dosen't exceed the width and height/2 of restricted area.
I made that. But when view_mc reaches the width and height/2 of restricted area, I can't resize view_mc to be samller. (The btn_scale looks like it's disables and can't use it)
I think some logic is missing. I highlighted the code that is missing some logic.

I've written a function that restricts user input to just numbers (0-9,.) and stores the input in the associative array, userInput[]. It works but seems inefficient looping through the entire input text string to scrub out invalid characters. Anyone have suggestions for a more efficient approach? Note that a working solution must correctly process mouse or cursor key movements/edits within the input box.
Also, you can see I'm using the KeyboardEvent.KEY_UP event to trigger the processing. The docs seem to indicate TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT is really the proper event for this purpose. I started with TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT but found the event is triggered before the last key pressed is actually added to the instance. The result is that the function was always one characterbehind. Is there an easy way to get the current text in the input box, including the last key pressed, when processing TextEvent.TEXT_INPUT?

I have a restricted editable textfield in flash like this:
oField.restrict = "0-9";
To capture changes I attach this listener:
oField.onChanged = function(){
trace(1);
};
Is there a listener to capture the event when a restricted character is entered (e.g. the event when the key "a" is pressed - the field does not change, so onChanged does not fire).

When I test movie the hand symbol appears at first, but when clicked it turns to arrow. Exactly the same happends when I appload the swf and of course there's no link ...

I'm trying to build a system where users (restricted to a very few admins) can publish news articles. The form is simple enough: an input field for "Headline" (single line) an input field for "article" (multiple line) and a file reference field to include a picture.
The idea is that you can EITHER write a headline and some text and then publish | OR | write a headline, some text then choose a picture and publish.No check boxes - no "would you like to include a picture" - just an idiot proof system where you can wither publish text - or text and a picture on the click of ONE button.
The picture is placed (via php) into the file system on the server, the text for headline and article are pumped into an SQL database (via php). I know php well and can do that bit with no probs but I'm having trouble with the function to pump the vars to the php if the user HASN'T chosen to include a picture.
1) has anyone done this before and if so do you have a "boilerplate" fla / php I could copy and paste into my project ?
2) can anyone see any problems in the code (posted below) which would explain why the upload of pictures always works but the sql insert never works ? On the stage are two input fields and two buttons (obvious names in the code are 'head_txt' and 'art_txt' )
CODE:
import flash.net.FileReference;
var progressBar:MovieClip;
var reference:FileReference = new FileReference();

I haven't fully grasped how the flash security model works, and now I've ran into a problem. I have a base SWF that loads a game loader swf, which in turn loads the actual game.What I'm trying to do is taking a current bitmap snapshot of the running game. This works fine before the loader swf has loaded the game. When the game is loaded, I get a security violation because the game has images pulled from facebook. Is this something that can be solved on my end, or restricted by security in the game swf?

Are there any Air + Zend Amf examples that use a real world web server and not localhost?
Basically I cannot get an Air or Flex application connected to a remote mysql db to work once deployed. How can I successfully move a finished application to a normal web server (website).
When testing everything works no problem but as soon as I deploy the gateway.php (regardless of where i put it on my web server) will not connect. I've even tried flash builder 4 auto generated code and still no luck
