I have a bunch of movieclips linked with bones, with the last bone named chainEnd, and the following code on the stage.

If I set an enter frame event to change the chainPos and then use chainMover.moveTo(chainPos) the chain will wiggle about and generally act like a proper chain. (I use this so that if the cursor touches the chain it will react to it) It works perfectly. So I saved it, exported it and then used a loader to get it into a different file that I'm working with. I figured I could load it in as a movieclip titled "chain" and access the variables through chain.chainPos etc.
This works if I want to for instance trace(chain.chainPos), but if I want to do what was previously possible (react to the mouse) it just won't work. I can check for a hitTestObject for anything on the stage, and I can check for a hitTestPoint against the mouse coordinates, they trace fine, but when I want to actually have the chain move the chainPos and chainMover.moveTo don't seem to do anything. (Interestingly enough chainPos still updates it's coordinates, so if I do chain.chainPos.x += (put number here) and trace that, it will actually change) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone knew why this wasn't working, or could help me get this functional. It's a massive pain to have the bones/movieclips on the stage rather than loaded in as a movieclip, so if possible I'd like to avoid that.
I am using Flash CS4 and AS3 and I found this tutorial to build an image uploader with the option for the user to use scribbles to add to the image they upload. Here is the working example I have [URL] is there a way to make the scribbles turn to bring up images like diffrent hair styles the users can apply to their pictures and save or should I try another way of doing this. I have found any tutorials that have been what I want to do with this.
View 2 RepliesI'm completely new to AS3/Flash programming, though I program in C/C++/C# in my job. These days I got a project idea which I think Flash would better fit than the other languages I mentioned above. I want to create an on-line automation application that can:
1. Control user mouse clicks, or eventually keyboard, pressing some keys;
2. Communicate/connect to the user's bluetooth device, establishing connections to the mobile devices attached to it - the web application in this case would act as a server.
I have an idea for a simple game/program and not sure if Flash is the way to go.After reading many articles I've come to the conclusion that if I wanna make my idea a reality then I need to do it myself but not sure where to start.Before spending the money on buying cs 5.5 want to make sure it can do what I need.So my question is can you have users input data that would then control your animations?
For a simple example:I want a user to be able to input a number then depending on the number a certain animation sequence would occur.So say a user inputs the number 10 then my animation would walk over to a pile of say apples and pick up 10 apples. If they input 5 the animation would pick up 5 apples etc...So my idea has nothing to do with apples but revolves around the user inputting numerical data which would then control what the animations do.
I've been reading a lot about the benefits of Object Pooling. Found some "tutorials" online, all above my skill level. Can anyone please show me an extremely simple example of an Object Pool. What my game does is creates Ball objects when the user holds down the mouse, stops when user lifts up mouse. I need to store these Ball objects in an array(or Vector), and hit test them with other objects, removing them from the stage when the hit another object. I'd like to create a pool of say 20 of so, created once, and recycle them.

View 5 RepliesThis has been a complaint since CS4. Maybe you finally fixed it in CS5.5? I'm in CS5, and cannot copy a group of layers with the "copy frames" option as I would with any other layer(s). So a bone tool animation I've done on the main timeline cannot be copied and turned into a mc symbol. A simple, basic process. I can export my MC and import, then it comes in as stills, increases file size, not editable. I'm sure the answer is "plan ahead." The answer should be, "Of course you can do that, that's always been a normal method of working in Flash." Flash is dieing as a web tool, and falling short as an animation tool.

View 14 RepliesI am working on a character that I will animate with bones. I painted the parts (left them as vector shapes), kept them all separate from each other on different layers and not touching. Added bones to each part. Flash made the armature layers each time. This is all inside a movie clip.I now want to copy and paste each part with bones/armature into a new movie clip so I can make mini animations, like a walk cycle, for example with out having to keep redoing all of my work. Somehow - I did this once.
I selected, copied, switched into the empty movieclip pasted it and there is was - armature layer, bones with object. All there. Moves fine When I tried to do it with the next part on a new layer, it just copied the vector shape with no bones. It is making me crazy. How do I copy and paste or duplicate an armature? I did it once, so I can be done...I included screen shots of the parts and the new movie clip - the body went with the bones (automatically made an armature layer when pasting) the leg did not.Attachments:creen shot 2010-01-01 at 2.51.20 PM.png (38.1 K)
I've been trying to figure out how to add a bone in the middle of an armature. Currently I have a bone from the neck to the shoulder, but would like to add an bone in between the neck and shoulder. Does anyone know how to insert the bone without having to reconstruct the entire branch?
View 1 RepliesHow would I go about using an external video in which the video would scrub (or move forward or rewind) when the user clicks on an object and drags the object left or right? I want to make a site in which the user has control over the movie, and when they choose left or right, the video will scrub to a certain cue point. wants it hits that cue point, the video will seek to another cue point and the story will continue. I want to make it so when the user clicks on the person, and drags them, it scrubs through the video as if the person is walking in a certain direction. I think I have the cue points set up properly, now to just figure out the rest.

lets say the user drag and drop something unto the stage.. the user got some sort of timeline to control the tween with.. the user make a second keynote. and moves the object earlier draged onto the stage, so now if user press "play", the object will move.. and now the 1million dollar question.. is it possible to save this tween/movement as a SWF? (or avi or whatever..) as long as it can be loaded again later? - using xml is not an option in this case.
Anyway, the "flier_mc" won't turn fully toward the mouse. I tried a few things, but it just keep turning away at some point.i can finally remove the pesky edge to edge teleport.

I have a Flash movie as2 that has a main movie that loads other movie clips into a Flash Window .I need to control the actions for the Flash Window movie from the main movie.As the movie in the Window is not on the stage until runtime ,how do i communicate to it from the main movie time line.example:Play the main movie and you click on a button that moves a ball across the stage ,at the same time a window pops up with a linked movie clip embedded in it that will change color when the ball on the stage reaches a specific point.The movie is alot more complicated than that ,as it is a aircraft system simulation. Where the pop is a circuit diagram of the action and the main movie is a flow diagram of the same function.

I'm getting no errors on this, Go (comeback) is my movie clip which should turn up when the mouse leaves the stage area and leave when the mouse enters the stage. I know it's probably my removeChild command but I don't know how to fix it.

I'm working on my personal portfolio site and desperately need help with some AS3. my knowledge about AS3 is very rudimentary. Hope anyone who's I want to change the pointer cursor to custom movieclip when mouseover different invisible buttons. These buttons are mainly forward & backward button for my gallery. I got some help from other site but still unsolved. Please take a look at my fla attachment to point out what's wrong with the coding. To elaborate a little bit more as what I wish to achieve you can take a look at the sample URL...I just need the pointer cursor to turn to custom mc when it mouseover the hit area of the respective buttons.
