Resizing Flash Swf's To Fit Screen Sizes?
Jun 19, 2009
I would like to know how to resize flash to fit in browser/monitor sizes. This site http:[url]....is a perfect example. Notice how it opens with no scroll and fits to a window that matches your screen size.

We are working on digital photo frame(DPF) project where we need to run DPF on 3 different resolutions, i.e., 800x480, 1024x600 and 1024x768. Is it possible to maintain only one .fla file for all resolutions? How can we go for it? We will be publishing it for flashlite 3 and using AS2. The application runs on a processor of 800MHz.... and total available memory is 128MB..

I am thinking of having 2 diff. versions of images in an XML driven photo gallery. The flash movie is full browser (no scale) with elements that adjust to the size of the browser window. I'd like some of the images to be presented pretty large, but only if the user has enough screen resolution. If using a smaller screen, then it would display the smaller version.
Anyway to do this efficiently (yes I am prepared to upload 2 different versions of each image)? Or is this a bad idea with too much maintenance?

Just want to find out something... I have a .swf video file which I open with the normal Adobe Flash player 10. What happens is that when I open that file in a smaller screen resolution there's some parts missing (cuts it off around the edges).
How can I resize the content to fit in any screen resolution?

I'm new to Flash builder and I'm having this weird screen resizing issue. I'm setting up my .swf of dimensions..
Code:
[SWF(width="760", height="600", frameRate="32", backgroundColor="#000000")]
And I'm using...
Code:
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
But for some reason, which I don't get is that when I do no_scale, the .swf window resized to 760x620, and I have these 20 pixels at the top, which are less than zero in Y, if I leave that line out, my graphics on the screen (isometric tiles) look distorted but the screen stays at 600 px in height.

Consider the following Flex code:
private function fullScreenHandler(evt:FullScreenEvent):void {
if (evt.fullScreen) {
viewstack.selectedIndex = 2;
[Code].....
I have a viewstack with two containing canvases. Canvas 1 is used when in normal mode and canvas 2 which is used when in full screen mode.
To properly resize the objectInViewStack2 I need to know how large the screen is when in full screen mode.

My main swf is 960x600 and loads full screen. it is a projector or swf, local. I have the code on frame 1 to ensure full screen and show all:
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL;
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN;
Then I load an external swf into a mc, and it goes full screen as expected. BUT the main swf that loaded that external one, at the time of load, suddenly gets scaled back down to its normal size: 960x600, on the top left corner of the Player Window (or the full screen), so somehow at 0,0. Whn I unload the external swf, I can put the code stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.SHOW_ALL; to get it back to where it was. But unfortunately I have some buttons from the Main swf that are supposed to be on top of the loaded one, and should stay where they are. But now they all move because of this scaling down.
the mc that is being used as a container for the loaded external swf is an empty mc located at 0,0. The external swf has the same size as the main one: 960x600
I searched and tried things but could not get it to stay in show-all mode when loading this external swf...

I'm working on my portfolio site and would like to resize the background only like this site [URL]For resizing a flash movie, I tried this script
Quote:
Stage.align = "TL";
Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
//size bg_mc to match stage size
[code]....
It succeeds resizing but is NOT in proportion
1. editing the script thus the picture resizes with contrain proportions?
2. I'd also like to have it centerized during resize.

I'm using the code below to resize a mc so that it fits a full screen browser even when its resized. Its working fine but...
How do you make the mc (bga) resize in proportion. At the moment it squashes & stretches
// ***Stage aligned top left
Stage.align = "TL";
// *** Stop the stage from scaling with the browser window.

I posted this in the Flash MX2004 forum, but I hope I have better luck here.[URL] In that website, how do they keep some of the movieclip items locked on the edge of the screen? When you resize your screen, the items on the edges are the ones that moves correspondingly. And the fillers are near the middle part. Someone mentioned about adding a listener and act to a onResize command?

How do you prevent all of your text automatically changing the font size when a browser is made full screen? I have a number of fixed field sizes I want my text to stay within but when the browser is expanded to full screen it changes the fonts so the text no longer fits in the text boxes and it forces scrolling.

I'm back in video after a decade long absence and I'm completely new to YouTube because I've been living on a continent that rarely even has Internet. I've got some old footage I need to put on YouTube, but YouTube's specs are a bit contradictory at times.Starting from the get go, I have several questions and I hope you can point me in the right direction. It sounds like an FLV file is what I should go for, so I'll base my questions on that. Don't hesitate to answer between the lines. And don't hesitate to tell me to change tracks.
The most clear export I can make from my old Avid editing program is an uncompressed QuickTime movie. I can't find anything in the YouTube specs about QuickTime moives. They don't say they're good. They don't say they're bad. Can I convert to an FLV file and upload to YouTube with good results? When I export non-HD material from my editing program, what frame size do I export?When I convert to an FLV file, what size do I re-size to? Or does YouTube resize whatever I send to them to the right size?When I convert to an FLV file, what's a reasonable bitrate for video? How about audio?Or do I even need to bother with the above? In one YouTube information sheet, it sounded like I could just upload a plain old MPEG2 file and YouTube would go from there. Correct or not?What's the benefit of an alpha channel? It seems like the files get smaller, but I can't get them to play at all after I've ticked alpha.I'm using Avid Xpress Pro 4.3 and have access to both AVS and TMPG 3 for MPEG conversion. I'm using CS3 from Adobe.

I am creating a slideshow within Flash that uses XML data pulled from a database. Is there any way to manipulate the image size from within Flash? I am going to use the slideshow for a plasma display, and have clients uploading image files at random, which are then added to our database. I need each image to be 16:9. I know the easy way to control this would be to give the clients size requirements - we will do this in the future - but unfortunately there are hundreds of images already in the database that are already odd sizes. While it's clearly possible to change the size of the movie itself, is there a way to force each image that is imported from the XML to be a particular size - say 800 x 450 or 1200x 675 or 1600 x 900? (i.e. -- can I force the XML generated image to fill up the whole screen/browser window, regardless of what size it is?) It does not matter if the image gets distorted or stretched.

I have a question about the optimization of pictures placedin a Flash stage.If I put a big sized pictures (for example: 1024 x 1024) andif, in the final result, the picture is downscaled on the Flashstage (for example : 200x200 pixels), once the swf is created ,will the picture be as heavy as before it was downscaled, when theflash web site will be loaded in browse

I have a custom Image class that I am using to store individual image information for a gallery application:
package mtm.test
{
public class Image extends Object
{
[Code]....
This is how I would implement the above:
var image:Image = new Image();
//I would be loading external bitmaps but for the example I'll just create new ones:
image[BitmapThumbnail] = new BitmapThumbnail(new BitmapData(65,65,false,0x000000));
[Code]....
Is there a simpler way to do this? I feel that there is a lot of repeated code within the BitmapType sub-classes.
At the least, this helps to avoid a bunch of for loops trying to find the requested size, and it seems portable to situations where more or less sizes of Bitmaps are required.

I have an AS3 .fla that loads an external XML file of image names, and then iteratively loads the images into the .fla. All this works great. What I want is to create a preloader that is aware of the size of all these external images. As far as I can tell there's no way to do this, but I'm hoping someone here is smarter than I am.
I tried Lee Brimelow's method of having a separate SWF whose only job is to load another SWF in its place. This doesn't work because the preloader's call to .bytesTotal only reads the bytes of the main SWF, not of the external XML or JPGs that are dynamically loaded into it. So the result is the preloader reaches 100% when the main SWF is loaded, but that happens really quickly and the bulk of the load time comes after the 100% mark, when the main SWF starts loading in images.
The more I think about this, the more it seems that you can never access the .bytesTotal property until you've already instantiated the loader and called the .load() method. Am I wrong? Is there a way to fetch just the SIZE of an external file without actually initiating the act of loading the file into memory?

I am not simply trying to contain things and have the container resize without the contents resizing. I would just use a simple MovieClip for that.. My main focus is on the use of BitmapFill. I'm trying to make a repeating background image for a container; thus far I'm able to draw my BitmapFill sprite to the size I want. (Which is the stage's height) but when the stage is resized, I want to re-size my container but have my containers BitmapFill crop or add more as the window is resized bigger or smaller. Allow me to illustrate what I mean:
I've got a simple rectangle sprite that fills with a bitmap from the library and a simple resize handler function that detects when the window has been resized.what I would like to do is have my rectangle resize to the height of the stage.stageHeight maintaining its bitmap fill, but not resizing the bitmap fill or any children within the sprite.
From what I've read, this is a little tricky because the sprite resizes in relation to what it contains.. or.. something like that.. I really don't know any more.. I saw one example where a person extended the sprite class but I don't know why or how..
in my library there is an image called 'pattern' and my code looks like this:
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;
stage.addEventListener(Event.RESIZE, resizeHandler, false, 0, true);
[code]....

I'm loading a few pngs/jpgs externally so they can be swapped out occasionally, and the issue I'm running into is when they are shrunk they become fairly choppy. Is there a way to have flash re-render them, or do something to smooth the resizing as opposed to going in and resizing every file manually myself?

I have an image in my library called 'pattern' and my code is as follows:
ActionScript Code:
stage.align = StageAlign.TOP_LEFT;
stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_SCALE;

I have an AIR application that will go full screen when the application starts:
stage.displayState = StageDisplayState.FULL_SCREEN_INTERACTIVE; The stage size is 2560 x 1024. And I have 2 moniters (1280 x 1024 , 1280 x 1024) When I start the application, it shows my application on one of my moniter only.
I need the left side of the stage to be shown in moniter 1 and right side of the stage to be shown in moniter 2. Currently, both sides are shown in moniter 1, and in moniter 2, it shows nothing but my default desktop. *The blue color line is a divider for better visual purpose. How do I make the left side of the stage to appear in moniter 1 and right side of the stage to appear in moniter 2 when the application starts in full screen mode?

Is a command for AS2 to make my movie file play fullscreen (stretch, fit to screen, anything).
goFullScreen(); is great but it leaves white bars left and right. What's odd is that I'm using Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder and it seems to display a perfect widescreen that I want as an input and output but once compiled in flash, it's more square leaving me with white bars left and right. The frame for the video in flash is also widescreen looking.
edit: I ended up stretching the width of the frame but if there is a better way through a command that would make my life easier so I don't have to adjust to every monitor that I run this on.

My question is what needs to be done in order to make a .swf file go into full screen without falling to a black screen when a movie is played? I have tried coding it, however I come up with the following error.

What should I do to fix this? This is not going to be an HTML file, however, so the initial thought of changing the publish settings does not seem to work this time.

How do you accomodate different resolution settings? What's the most commonly used canvas size for this type of project.

I'm building a flash website. I want the background to be a .jpg photograph which fills the entire area outside the browser. I understand that it is possible to scale background to fit different sized computers, but I don't understand how that doesn't distort the image when viewed on a widescreen computer. Is there some way tocreate a site that shows a portion of the image on a 800 x 600 monitor, a little more of the image on a 1024 x 768 monitor and even more a 1650 x 1050 monitor.

if i am using sound/music in a flash movie and i would like to create an instance for it then play it in actionscript, how would i go about getting the size of that sound file?Here is the code i used, btw the sound file has a linkage name of 'tune'
Code:
musik = new Sound(this);
musik.attachSound("tune");
musik.start();
varsize = musik.getBytesTotal();
A dynamic text field is placed in the doc to show the value of varsize but when the movie loads, it shows as undefined!
