Stream Live Video - Use Http Or Rtmp Protocols From Player Code?
Nov 21, 2009
I'm trying to stream live video for the first time. I've installed FMIS 3.5 without Apache 2.2. I'm confused on the RTMP/HTTP protocol usage,I can only have port 80 opened on our FMIS 3.5 box.

Is it possible to live stream both RTMP and HLS with FMS 4.5?
I want flash users to have the least latency possible using RTMP, and iOS users use HLS.

Live streaming and a buffer on a NetStream do not mix. Why? The docs don't say you can't do this. The playback gets hosed. Buffer is supposed to fill to what you set it to before playing. Instead though, about half the time, the player starts playing right away and disregards the buffer time you've set. Then you get caught in short buffering and rebuffering cycles that degrades the playback experience.
Give it a shot yourself. Here is the simplest of live streaming video players. No frills. Just connect it to your live stream by changing the defaultURL string and stream name in the ns.play() statement.
Run it in Flex debug mode. It will check and print the ns.bufferLength property every second. The buffer is set to 20 secs currently. Last time I ran it, I never made it above 2 seconds in the buffer. Player started playing right away instead of buffering the full 20 secs first. Sometimes you get to the full 20 and sometimes not.

What's the best way to check whether there is video data (or not) in a live RTMP stream? For example, if a broadcast terminates, can I auto-detect that condition, to perform some sort of "thank you for watching" behavior? Also, how can I know if a visitor somehow gets disconnected from the Internet during the broadcast? (So I can notify the visitor of the problem, and give instruction.)

As seen the tutorial [URL].. I have successfully implimented the steps. However the problem comes when the stream is disconnected and reconnected again due to network problems. Once the stream is reconnected the video stops coming, even though all 3 streams are succesfully publishing the stream to Flash Media Server but on the client side where I'm using OSMF media player the stream gets stops. Is there any setting that I need to impliment in the OSMF player to resolve this issue ?

Somebody I know can't watch because they have a proxy server. The nc.connect() call to get the live stream fails because it goes direct from AS3 to FMS and doesn't go through the proxy server.

I can play my live rtmp (fms) stream through the FLVPlayback component without any problems. I even figured out how to make my own player in AS2. But I still can not get a LIVE player in AS3. I keep getting "onMetaData", "Async" and "onBWDone" errors in varying combinations. Can someone, please find it in their heart to provide me with the appropriate code? Every single tutorial online is either AS2 or is for flvplayback (nc.connect goes to null).[code]

Usually, flash streaming is done by capturing webcam video/audio and streaming using NetConnection and other objects to servers like FMS,Red5,Wowza etc.I haven't found any example on how to create your own stream of images and stream as a video to the server.I know it would be possible to convert the image to bytes and send via SharedObjects. Then decode on server and create a video file on the server (e.g. using ffmpeg), but I would rather do it in realtime on the client side if possible.

'URL missing from Media tag' on FMS4.5 HTTP Live Stream playback.I have spent a whole day trying in vain to publish f4m live http streams from FMLE using FMS 4.5, and almost everything I try results in the error .The F4M document contains errors URL missing from Media tag...in both Flash Media Playback and the fms videoPlayer app.Other people seem to have seen this and solved it, but I've found nothing that helps. I have tried to publish a single stream, and with multiple bitrates. For the latter, I followed the Adobe video tutorial as follows:

Anyone knows how to judge this, either by client side or server side actionscript?

if I repeat this IIS topic, I couldn't find the answer to my problem any where on the internet. I installed FMS Dev 3.5 on Win 2003 Server with IIS 6.0 enabled. I don't have any issue with port 80 Listening, I used the IP address 192.168.0.21 for my web application (IIS) and 192.168.0.22 for FMS (I only have one network card and port 1935 is open under firewall). I can play the sample videos (RTMP, HTTP, and Dynamic Stream) using the Flash Media Start Screen (or from the location C: Program FilesAdobe Flash Media Server 3.5webrootindex.html) without any problem.
I then modified the IIS Default Website to look at the "webroot" folder (C: Program FilesAdobe Flash Media Server 3.5webroot). From IE, I can access the default web site by enter http://192.168.0.21/index.html. The website loads up correctly, and the RTMP video is playing perfectly. However, if I click Play Video (HTTP) or Dynamic Stream (tab), I receive "Connection Error. Please press Play to try again." I look at the log file (access.01.log) and see the error log "Session disconnect

I'm new on FMS, but I've managed to create a web page with an embedded player that shows a live stream that I capture with a webcam and FMS. What I need is to be able to pause the live stream from the web page player and to play it again from the point I've paused it. I thought to stream a live video and save it to a file on the server as well, but I don't know how to tell the player to start from the end of the file rather than the begining of it. The client should connect to the page and see the live stream, but he can pause it and continue watching it later from that point, but if a different client connects, he should see the live stream.

I need to play a .FLV file (a commercial), then switch over to a live RTMP stream. Then, every 30 minutes STOP the live stream (or mute/hide it if thats more efficient/effective) and play the commercial again, then continue with the stream for another 30 minutes and repeat. For some reason I'm clueless on how to do this. I don't know if I'm supposed to use timers or setInterval. For now I'm using the FLVPlayBack component (I'm too lazy to code my own right now).
It would be really cool if the script could sense when the video is done playing rather than me having to set a specific time because they might not all be the same length. I dont want my viewers seeing 15 seconds of nothing if its a 15 second commercial and I set a timer for 30 seconds.

I was wondering if I were to create a NetStream object and publish it passing in "record" (allowing the end user to record a video via webcam which is then stored on the FMS), how would I specify the bitrate and frame rates etc of the video being recorded? Is this something I need to configure flash media server to do or can I do this through action script?

How can I access the camera on a wireless computer and import the live stream into my a SWF file, on Ubuntu Linux?
I know that there is Flash Media Server and Flash Media Live Encoder to create an .flv stream, but the encoder only works on Windows and Mac.
Is it possible to access the camera on a linux computer and convert into a video stream for AS3?
If not, are there other video stream formats that can be read into Actionscript?
