I'm working on a project for a presentation that has hidden buttons. I want a way that the hidden buttons can be located, if someone else has to give the presentation. I've seen an example where if the user hits the tab key it would cycle through all buttons and outline them in red. I am new to flash and action script and have no idea how to do this.

I have a timeline with several buttons on it - some if these are created at runtime, and some by putting buttons on the page on frame 1 I then have an emptyMC into which I import a swf that COVERS the whole stage. This all works fine - you can't see anything of the underlying material. However, as you "mouse around" it seems that the buttons that are covered are still active - pointer becomes a hand etc. I can disable the buttons using enabled=false. This is quite invloved, and I would have thought that these buttons wouldn't be active - surely they are covered! How is the possible, and is there a neater way to stop these buttons being active.
View 4 RepliesAs I was creating a cheap Flyout Menu I ended up being unable to assing a "global" variable to different buttons.I have a "main button bar" with 5 different buttons wich as you RollOver one brings up another bar with multiple buttons attach to it.
Now these "2nd level" buttons are set in a Movie Clip as this one starts invisible and I don't want people to see the hand cursor over them. I know how to make this happen to each button individually but since I have 8 "2nd level" btns I don't want my ActionScript to be 100 lines long So to put this easier to read and write, to minimize the chances of making mistake I am asking you this: Is there a way to assign a single variable to refer to these 8 different "2nd level" buttons?
Im trying to build a site where the images are load in via AS. The problem I'm running into is that the image that is loading from outside of the swf file is now covering my hot spot( buttons). How do I make it so that the load in image will always show up under the hot spots ( buttons)?

I am trying to achieve an effect in Flash. The effect in question is that when I hover a certain area I want my navigation (6 movie clips that acts as a button) to appear and disappear when I move my mouse out. The trouble is that right now I Can make then appear but I cannot click them nor mouse over them since I've put a transparent (alpha = 0 ) over them.
I'd like a solution or hint of a solution in AS2 but I am open to AS3 solutions as well.
I am looking to create a flash based image slide show, but have some restrictions. Can't use XML to store the images, b/c this is going into powerpoint, and the client uses an older version which doesn't support external files. Also, this won't be advanced by a button, click, but will need to be timed between transitions. There is voice-over, music involved so the transitions times may not all be the same. I did a Google search, but every example involved XML and/or button controls.

I am making a website in flash for my business that consists of several elements. For example I have one menu on top with the usual "contact", "resume", "about" and so on, and so far this is not the problem as I only need some text to show up when the button is clicked. But on the left i have another menu with different sections called "animations", "layouts", "illustrations" and so on, and the point is that each link is supposed to start a slideshow with my artwork depending on the category. How to make the buttons show content, and I even created a simple slideshow (with prev and next buttons).
I used the following code for the slideshow:

Now the only thing left to do is to actually make the different buttons show the slideshows. I have tried to embed the swf of the slideshow in the frame of my content layer that is dedicated to the layout button. I've had to try a few things. at first the slideshow didn't do what I previously programmed it to: instead of me having to click next or prev, it just flipped through all the images continuously. That I fixed, but now the only thing that still doesn't work are the buttons. they seem active when I test the movie, but they don't take me anywhere- they're just stuck on the first image.
I was looking to make 2 buttons; one that hides a movieclip that is playing on a slide, and one that shows it again. I've heard theres a few ways to do this but none of them are making much sense to me (i previously made some buttons that play, pause and stop a movieclip, and I think I am stuck in the wrong frame of mind to do these next 2 buttons...) I am trying to create a nav system that expands to show sub-sections when the user rolls over main section buttons.Let me describe exactly (as best I can) how this would work:A vertical list of 5 menu buttons is stacked and distributed at equal distances.The user clicks a button (lets say Button 2) and Buttons 3, 4, 5 slide down to reveal the sub-nav below Button 2. I'm attempting to unravel a Flash template and there are two Flash movies, Main and Magazine, the second being embedded into the first. The Magazine Flash file contains a menu of links to various pages in the Magazine movie. There are 5 of these links - About, Services, Contact, etc.I've been trying to find the text elements so I can assign new colors, but the only thing that I can find is the first element. Tere is a scene called menutxt which has an area with text for each of the five links but they all have the text "About" in the buttons. I would have expected each button to contain the different link names.o I was assuming that this was a standard

I can hide it with hide edges, but as soon as I select them and let go, the edges come back. maybe their not edges since theyre dotted. maybe its flash telling me somethings not set up correctly? anyone?

Ok, this has probably been covered before, but a lot of research hasn't got me far, so I thought I'd post. I have a single page html site with several links that load up a homebrewed lightbox. The inline content is written out at the bottom of the page and the divs are set to hidden.
When a link is clicked, the light box loads and the correct <div> is set to visible. The flash plays, or is interacted with but when the user has finished, they click an html Close button and the div is hidden again. Obviously the swf is still loaded and running; it could be even mid animation. The more swfs loaded, the more memory that is taken up.
My development machine can handle the 600mb + used up by have a few FF windows open and a couple of copies of the site; but I imagine it will cause problems for users. So I've been looking into externalInterface to fire a command into the swf to close itself down when the close button is clicked, but I can't seem to find anything

View 5 RepliesRunning CS4 I have a .fla that was compiling fine yesterday. Today I made some slight additions and it wouldn't compile, giving errors saying that various things were undefined I was starting to go nuts until finally I made all layers in the timeline visible and compiled again. Now it compiles fineJust in case it was something Flash itself I created a new file, hid some layers and compiled and it was fine. So it's not the application, just this particular file.
