ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding A Method To MC Class?

Jul 16, 2009

Basically I want to create my own drawRect() for as2.normally, I would just prototype it:

Code:
MovieClip.prototype.drawRect = function(x,y,w,h){ //etc.. }
and then I would be able to use it like:
Code:
mymc.drawRect(a,b,c,d);

Is there a way to make that function a class so that I can still call it from a movieclip directly? I read in another post somewhere about calling super.drawRect() in an extended class, but I'm not 100% on how to actually do this.So far I have what is below. I don't think I'm supposed to be declaring the mc var, but I can't think of another way to do it.

Code:
class drawRect extends MovieClip{
private var mc:MovieClip;
function drawRect(x,y,w,h){

ActionScript 2.0 :: Adding Method To Existing Class?

Jul 5, 2009

I'm trying to make a new method for the XMLNode class and I want to use this method in other classes of mines that manipulate XMLNodes. Here's what I did :

1. I wrote an Ext class which you can read here :

[Code].....

It didn't work (saying that myMethod doesn't exist), so I added this line "static var e : Ext = new Ext();" before "function Testing () {}" Then my method worked. I don't understand why but great.

3. The problem is that I want to use the method not only in the main function but also in other classes of the application. However, when another class tries to call the custom method, it says that it is not defined. I don't know how to solve that.

Additional infos: I'm using the Eclipse IDE rather than the traditional Flash IDE so I don't have such a thing as "the first frame". My app only has the main function.
-MTASC which compiles my code doesn't support #include

ActionScript 3.0 :: Adding Event Listeners For Movieclip Inside Movieclip?

Nov 5, 2010

I have a movieClip button in my library that I dynamically add multiple instances of to the stage using code (so each instance has a unique name). The button has two frames, so it has a basic rollover effect (just changes color. To make the rollover work, I've had to dynamically add an event listener to each new instance of the movieclip, which triggers the rollover function.

I was wondering, instead of adding an event listener each time, can I somehow have an event listener within the movieclip to take care of the rollover?  Or will it not make any difference to the number of event listeners, as it will still add a listener with each new instance of the clip?

My problem is that when the object is clicked, I want  to access a method inside the object's class but I do not know how to  reference its position in the array. Example
Code:
class myClass{

//constructor
public function myClass(){

[Code] .....

What I want to do is to access the property inside the method.. I also have a work-around still i cannot point a certain variable to a property of my class inside the method's function..

Actionscript 3 :: Adding EventListener To Inherited Property From Inside And Outside Of The Class

Reading a book i stumbled on this example:

Here is the class:

package com.learningactionscript3.loading {
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.LoaderInfo;

[Code]....

What I deduce from this example is that the swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo and _ldrInfo = this.contentLoaderInfo refer to the same object in the same memory location. So you may think: "well the last added event will overwrite the first one (the internally one added). But it doesn't. The two event listeners will respond sequentially. First the internal listener and then the external listener.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Referencing A Textfield Inside A Movieclip Class From Document Class

Feb 3, 2009

Ok, this is one of those walls that I know once I can jump over it, I will be a much happier developer again.

I've done tons of reading, and think I have a firm understanding that the general consensus is that if you want to reference something, it needs to be added to the display list, using addChild().

I hate to be defiant, but what if I don't want to?

Or at the very least, what if I want to add a movieclip class to the stage using addChild, and then reference objects inside it?

It is much easier this way than what most people recommend - adding 15 objects via addChild, then setting the x and y for the, etc.

That said, I'm all about using classes and using as3 the way it was meant to be used. So what this is, is a best practices question I guess.

HERE ARE THE STEPS I'M TRYING:

- Create new flash document

- Draw graphic symbol bg, with text field over it, select them, convert to movieclip symbol, and export class name "box", then delete it from stage

- Add document class .as file, which simply adds that class "box" from the library, to the display list using a simple addChild()

- Set a name for that box using box.name = "test" let's say

- Do a simple trace like the following - "getChildByName('test').textFieldName" - it shows up great

- So then, I'll now try to set the text by doing this - getChildByName('test').textFieldName.text = "yo";

That last line above, is what doesn't work. I know I'm referencing wrong, but how would a pro as3 developer, reference something on the stage within a movieclip class, from the document class?

ActionScript 3.0 :: For Loop - Adding MovieClip And Button Class

Actionscript Code:
public function Main():void {
var my1:MovieClip = new Sp();
var my2:MovieClip = new Jp();
var my3:SimpleButton = new But();
var rel;
for (var i:Number = 0; i < 3; i++) {
rel = "my" + (i + 1);
trace(rel);
addChild(rel);
}

See the above script, Here I don't wanna add the MovieClip and button class separately using "addChild" like,

Actionscript Code:
addChild(my1);addChild(my2);addChild(my3);

So I used for loop function. But it is showing error:
