[CS3] Score Counter In A Shooter Game

Nov 24, 2008

I have a simple shooting game set up. 25 monsters appear on the screen, one after another, until no monsters are left. If you hit one before it disappears, the score increases. If you don't, the score stays the same.

In the actions frame, I placed an empty dynamic text box named score, and set it equal to 0 (declared in the main actions frame). But, seeing as though the monster actions are coded into the library item itself, do I have to declare score, and the score increase there instead?

ActionScript 1/2 :: Developing A Simple Score Counter?

Jan 10, 2011

Working on a simple score counter for my young son -- the idea is to simply add or subtract 1 digit to reveal the score. The variables only need to be 0-9 in each column. Can someone advise on how to make this work correctly? The animation was developed using a root.xxxx +1 or -1. It does the trick but as you can see, it keeps going into the double digits in each column.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Creating A Live Page Counter In Flash

Jun 28, 2004

I have followed the tutorial on creating a live page counter in flash and somehow run into a problem to which i don't seem to be finding the solution. Perhaps someone here might be able to offer his/her generous help in solving this issue. Problem: The page counter works just fine the first time i load the page. After doing a refresh using the Ctrl & F5 key or just by clicking on the refresh button in my browser the count keeps going up (which as far as i understood from the tutorial is not supposed to happen).

When i do the same kind of refresh on the tutorial page the count stays unchanged though! I also downloaded the finished fla file but for some reason or other flash MX doesn't let me open it, giving me the error: "unexpected file format". Here is my code of the php file that i wrote for the counter.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Getting A NaN Error On 'Keeping Score' Tutorial

Mar 1, 2007

I recently did the tutorial on here called "Keeping Score" - where you can click on one button and it will add score to a dynamic text field. Press another and it will subtract. I wanted to take this one step further - although have run into some problems.I have set my stage up so that the MCcontainer loads up a random movie clip each time.. from external SWF's. The idea was to have you click on the random swf's when the pop up and add points.. to the dynamic movie clip on the main stage. Although I end up getting a NaN in the score box. However if I click on a button with the same script in the main movie (not externally) it will add to the score.. and then if I click on the external movie it will add points correctly.[code]I have made sure that it relates to the root - and it only works once a button has been pressed with the same code in the main timeline of the movie, but messes up if you click on the external SWF first.

-dollar sign indicates a variable or array "$numbers"
-import flash.utils.Dictionary; "indicates an associative string"
-Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties
-is the associative string is fooling me? "maybe I set no values, duh"

Actionscript 3 :: Multiple Dynamic Text Score Display - Modifying Each Text One After Another And Incrementing The Score By A Certain Number

Feb 23, 2011

I have a result screen that shows bonus points and such. I want each text field to increment one after another and also have it increment by a certain amount each frame. Result Screen pops up. First is the player score check the player score, is it more than the score we want to display if the player score is greater than the player display score by 100 increase the player display score by 100 if the player score is greater than the player display score by 10 increase the player display score by 10 else increase the player display score by 1 when finished move to the next score...and so on. I have thought of using timers to move from one score to the next, but not being in an Event.ENTER_FRAME it only does one if then moves to the next one.

Also the if statement for incrementing the score looks ridiculous and I'm thinking there has to be a better way to do it. I was thinking of making it a separate function but then I wouldn't know what to return, or how to return it so it looks like its increasing and not just showing the total number instantly. I'll try to expand on it a little more.

Getting Error Creating Movie

Dec 13, 2009

I am on the last leg of finishing up a full flash site and all of a sudden out of nowhere I started getting this error when I try and test the movie.

"Error creating Flash movie file. Be sure the destination file is not locked or on a locked drive. Also, check that the file name is not too long."

Nothing actually changed in the flash file besides scripting when it started occurring. I went back and erased what I had done. Tried moving the frames to a new project, tried saving it as another file, saving it to the desktop instead of my external. Nothing works!! The strangest part is that it will work fine when I delete a couple text fields and then if I try and add something to the stage it will get the error again. Almost like I've hit some sort of limit.
