I'm looking for the most efficient possible way of drawing an 8 x 4 grid (960x600 total size). Each square of the grid has a variable alpha and the grid is redrawn every enter frame. The problem is my application is doing a lot already and I'm looking for the most efficient way to execute this loop 32 times (possible more in fact) per frame without overloading processor.

I'm under the impression there could be better ways of drawing the shapes straight to BitmapData without using Sprites, or maybe I'm doing something wrong about memory usage as I can see memory going up and down in a cycle.
I would like to create a proportional grid. Basicly rects with same width and dotted lines as borders (no fill): It should be on full stage width and reacting on resizing (single grid rects should stay in size) only becomming less or more grids (stage width resizing smaller or larger).Some Example Sites that use such grids [URL]
View 3 Repliesflash and at the risk of sounding like an idiot, here goes.My question is:How can I make it so that the stage is divided up into a grid of 4 by 4px spaces that can be filled with a color after a click?So far I have some code that lets you draw a 4 by 4px dot but the dots can overlap because there is no grid:

I'm currently working with the OLAPDataGrid component and got stuck at a relatively simple task: I want to style the last row of the grid differently from the rest, so my cell item renderer needs to know whether he's rendering the last row with content in the overall grid, including those rows currently not rendered because they are outside the visible grid space. AdvancedGridListData's rowIndex property only gets me the row index of the renderer relative to the range of visible grid rows, i.e. when I scroll down the grid, a data item with an index greater than 0 gets the rpw index = 0.

Its an empty grid at the begining, when they start the time start as well.Its a grid of 10 x 10. when they enter the last number, the grid should show what they did wrong and the time they spend. I really like the thumbnail gallery for its simplicity and beauty. But I would like to ad or vertical scroller (I'm unable to find it here too, maybe I'm blind, just I'm more at the end of my seeking options) or a make a grid thumbnails, that will show 2 columns of thumbs and 5 pictures in each columns, then under the 2 columns i would like to ad a sort of arrow or button that if my gallery have more then 10 pictures it will go on the next thumbnail list. I'm not looking for any extra fading effects or special movements. Just would love to have a single thumbnail grid on side, with option to have lists of thumbnails by 10 if there is more then 10 pictures or so.

View 1 RepliesI'm building a small editor that allows users to place electrical components onto a grid so that they can see how electricity works. I have built a grid using an array and for loops and attach movieclips dynamically to that grid. What I want the moviclips to do is to look in the four spaces either side of itself i.e. up, down,left and right.I have managed to pull the grid coordinates out of the grid which enables me to tell the clip which grid space to look at but have been unable to successfully get the code to work.Here is my code:

i've tried to simulate a pencil tool, for drawing above a imagem, but the drawing is below the picture. How fix it?

Basically I've got a reasonably complex drawing object in a fla and I want to reproduce it in a class definition using the drawing api. However obviously this is a tedious task, so is there some trick or automated method of doing this?
Last time I needed to do this it was a drawing of an arrow and I ended up writing down x,y,width,height values for everything but this one has curves in it which I don't have experience with drawing anyway.
I'm trying to code the snap to grid functionality. The dragged object should snap to the grid if the distance between the object bounds and a grid line is less than 5px. I found a way to do it if the object's rotation is 0 but it doesn't work if I rotate the object. I need a different approach. Can you point me into the right direction with the algorythm or any source code?

View 4 RepliesI cannot get this to work. Without the "var drawing", "var drawing being true or false" and the "if statement", it works fine. But I need to add the "var drawing" so that you can only draw if you turn it on by pressing the "draw_btn" button. Note, I do not get an error, the script "apparently" contains no errors. Here is the code:

I've created a drawing tool which allows the user to draw on the canvas, the problem is that if I try to draw over a movieclip nothing happens. Is there a way I can allow for the user to draw over movieclips? For example if I had a background of paper?

I'm trying to dynamically draw out an isometric grid but I'm hitting a few problems, currently I'm using a matrix transformation to get the grid to look more isometric that tile based but it has it's problems so I want to add the grid with out using the matrix transformations. currently I have..

I tried to draw it out using Sin ,Cos and Tan functions to try to set the coordinates but it didn't behave like I had expected,
I need to draw on stage about 40,000 4x4 squares each a different color. The color is determined by an xml file. I have this working in as2 and have converted it to as3 the problem is the amount of time it takes to draw is causing cs4 to time out. I have extended the script time out to 60 seconds. In cs3 as2 it would draw the squares in about 15 seconds. I was hoping as3 cs4 would improve performance but seems to be the opposite. I have tried several methods such as adding children and various drawing variations. the bellow seems to work the best, but is still causing flash to crash.

I have a grid in a 2D system like the one in the before image where all points A,B,C,D,A',B',C',D' are given (meaning I know the respective x- and y-coordinates).I need to calculate the x- and y-coordinates of A(new), B(new), C(new) and D(new) when the grid is distorted (so that A' is moved to A'(new), B' is moved to B'(new), C' is moved to C'(new) and D' is moved to D'(new)).The distortion happens in a way in which the lines of the grid are each divided into sub-lines of equal length (meaning for example that AB is divided into 5 parts of the equal length |AB|/5 and A(new)B(new) is divided into 5 parts of the equal length |A(new)B(new)|/5).The distortion is done with the DistortImage class of the Sandy 3D Flash engine. (My practical task is to distort an image using this class where the handles are not positioned at the corners of the image like in this demo but somewhere within it).

Notes:
- The array is declared else where as a public variable
- This is to be part of a game engine I'm building so I want it as flexible as possible
- The tiles as reading their properties for an XML file. But I don't want to use the XML to hard code the tiles' positions.
I am in the middle of designing a 16 x 16 grid sequencer with a row of buttons that light up and sweep across the screen as shown in the attached picture. Basically i was wondering would this be best done in flash cs5 as its hopefully going to be coded with actionScript or should i use other adobe apps like illustrator etc? I was also wondering how to get the lights to trail behind as the lights travel across the buttons?

I used AS3, is there another type I should be using? Or is the coding different from the version used in the tutorial to CS4?
View 4 RepliesOkay, trying to find a solution to this, I have been searching everywhere. I have a flash project with a grid of images; 3 images tall by 4 images wide. Here's what I want, when you rollover each image, the others get covered up with a larger version of the particular image, no fancy animations or anything like that, it needs to just appear. The problem I am encountering is that the expanded image is part of the rollover so rolling over anywhere the expanded image should be reveals the larger image. So the million dollar question is... how do I make the only active part of the rollover action be the small version of the image
View 3 RepliesI don't think Flash is seeing my movie clip grid that I placed on the GRID Layer. When I check syntax it doesn't find anything wrong, when I go to debug in Flash it shows the grid even though I thought I have it set to visible=false. When I set it to true and debug the code it shows the grid as well. When I try to test it in Scaleform for UDK as well, the cursor acts as it should however the grid is invisible, when I change the code for the grid to be visible it still doesn't show up. I provided a screen shot of the entire screen. with as much information I could think of to show including the entire AS code.
