I have a SWF that I am running on a kiosk and the Actionscript is calling a PHP script residing on an internal IP address. As everyone always says, it runs great with the IDE, however when I publish this file and run it, I get nothing. I cannot even output errors and such into a textfield. I'm totally baffled as to how I can debug this.
Code:
//set up request and loader
var request:URLRequest = new URLRequest("http://10.25.241.11/custom/test.php");
var loader:URLLoader = new URLLoader();

I'm having trouble getting any of my adobe software to produce a drop shadow without pixelating the image. I'm working with FL but I've tried PS and IL and everytime it ends up looking like an 8 bit graphic. It happens with all the preset effects. The laptop I'm using has a 4 gigs of RAM and a core duo with a 512 MB graphics card How can I set my software to produce the highest quality effects?

I use C# to read a string (BinaryReader.ReadString()) from the socket stream. But the problem is that flex doesn't writes the string in suitable format, so C# will be able to read that. C# reads a 7 bit encoded integer which indicates the length of the string, and just then reads the string. But flex doesn't writes a string in this format (I use socket.WriteUTF(), and even socket.WriteUTFBytes() didn't work), so C# can't read the string. Here's a little information of how C# reads/writes a string from a socket stream:

I am having memory problems when adding & removing children. Here is a brief overview of what I'm doing:I'm ading children to a VBox component:the structure of the children is:
Code:
<mx:Canvas>
<mx:Image/>
<mx:Text/>
[code]....
All remove the children, BUT I am getting memory leaking, especially using the second method! If I don't add the TextField child to the UIComponent I don't seem to experience any memory problems!

I'm trying to get two different apps to communicate through a file. I would like app 1 to append some text to a file, and app 2 to notice, and read the new bytes (not the whole file). There is an event, ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, that is supposed to fire when new data is available on a FileStream, but it only fires when I first open the file. Basically, I would like to leave the FileStream open, listening like a socket on the end of that file for changes.

I am writing a process where users will need to select a file that far exceeds their availble RAM and have that file broken up into small chunks (for upload). I'm able to create a File reference to said file, but when I try to pass it to the fileStream, it appears to try to read the thing into memory before acting on it. Is there a way to get fileStream to just take the reference to the file and then utilize readBytes the way it's documented? it's called when the user selects the File in the browser dialogue.

1) Each field in the form only allows 3 characters and no special characters such as @ _ ! . , etc... 2) When the user goes to the next field in the form, the previous field appears blank but the when clicking on that again, the original text appears. 3) When submitting the form, it just keeps saying "in progress" and never shows the confirmation text nor does the email get sent. There is an HTML file included with this form but I am not sure if I need to put that in as I have embedded this form into an SWF file so I don't think I need that code but let me know if I am wrong about this. I am posting both the AS code and PHP code below..

I have a web design for a client that was pretty much complete. They decided that they wanted to replace one of the graphics with a flash animation. When I added the swf file to the layout in Dreamweaver it apparently is adding some space around the swf which breaks the rest of the design. It looks to be about 4 pixels or so of space that is getting added. I experimented with padding, margins, borders on every element in the design. I tried changing the Scale parameter of the swf to "no border" and "exact fit". I tried enclosing the elements in a table. To simplify things I created a new blank page in Dreamweaver and added the two elements that are giving me grief. The original width of the design was 792.
On the top I had 2 graphics, the first was 212 wide and the second was 580 wide. The first graphic is the one that got replaced with the swf file. The swf is also 212 wide. But for some reason there is that extra space on the right side of the swf that forces the second graphic to the next line. You can see the example here: [URL]. This shows what happens when the original graphic was replaced with the swf. (The swf doesn't do anything as I actually replaced the client's swf with one I made that has the original graphic as the only item in the movie). If you look here: [URL]. I changed the width of the second graphic to 574 wide. That kept the graphic on the same line, but you can clearly see that the swf has the unwanted space to the right.

Problem embedding CS4 Flash Movie - Player 10. I am embedding a Flash Movie into an HTML doc. The doc was created in DW CS4 and has a table with 3 columns and 5 rows. Each cell will have content. I put a flash movie in the center cell, three rows down from top. Everything looks great in Safari. However, in IE, FF, and IE Chrome, there is space along the top and bottom of the movie -- have not tried the AOL browser. About 10 px each. I've tried everything to fix it. I published the HTML in Flash and tried integrating the generated HTML with my table -- same problem. Maybe publish settings could be tweaked.
I've tried 0 margins in CSS header tag, and HTML too. I thought I had this problem about a year ago with a different site ... been that long ... and resolved it.

When I import a psd layered file I get an unwanted (red) border appearing around the art and as a box around the art. This doesn't exist in the psd file, but appears in the flash file. Should I convert and import it as something else? Is it a resolution setting in flash?
