Actionscript 3 :: Intangible Flash Textfields?

Jun 27, 2011

I'm currently trying to mimic a screen from a flash game for my own inscrutable purposes, and a typical screenshot of the screen in question looks something like this . I've successfully found and extracted the background image from the file, and now I'm trying to find out the positioning of the various text fields. The actionscript for the SWF has the various textfields being declared as such:

public var speedText:TextField;
public var exp:TextField;
public var evadeText:TextField;
public var lvl:TextField;
public var critText:TextField;

The problem I have is that I can't find any instance anywhere in the code that actually assigns x, y, width, or height attributes to any of the text fields, nor are they anywhere on the stage using Flash CS4, so I can't determine their positioning at all. I've searched all actionscript files associated with the swf for any instance of the textfield names, without any hits except for assigning text to them. If they aren't receiving their positioning attributes via actionscript, how are they receiving these values, and how can I obtain them?

Actionscript 3 :: Flash CS5 Screwed Up All Textfields?

May 5, 2010

I have an Actionscript project that I was building using Flash CS4. I embedded a font using the follow: [Embed(source="/bin/assets/fonts/MyriadPro-Regular.otf", fontWeight="normal", fontFamily="Myriad Pro")]

Then throughout my application in my TextFields I would set embedFonts to true antialiastype to advanced and set the thickness property of the text field. And setting the font-family from a stylesheet. This was all working exactly as I expected it would with no issues whatsoever and months of development.

I just upgraded to CS5 and published and none of my text is rendered at all. I was able to resolve this by removing the embedFonts = true from the textfields, but this leaves me with no control over the thickness at all.

I searched everywhere, does anyone know what the proper way to do this in CS5 is now? I've tried embedding my font directly within the CS5 IDE but still no thickness control.

Flash :: Can't Interact With Textfields And Movieclips?

Aug 22, 2011

I have a movieclip on stage: I load inside it a form (via addChild). The form is made of textfields and movieclips and it is contained in a library object of MyForm class, extending MovieClip. So I have:

var myForm:MyForm = new MyForm();
myClip.addChild(myForm);

What happens: the MyForm class lets me interact with textfields (if I change a value of a textfield I can see it very clearly). But I can't manually reach the input textfields and the buttons (they don't respont to pressure, and I can't modify their content in the case of textfields). There seems to be something related to the fact that MyForm is contained inside myClip because if I load the form without the myClip container anything works again. I tried to use mouseChildren and mouseEnabled on myClip but it doesn't work.

IDE :: Flash Kerning Dynamic Textfields Question?

Mar 2, 2011

I'm having an issue with a particular font where, when using dynamic textFields the kerning is all out of whack. When using static textFields, it's fine, and when I check "Use Device Fonts" it's also fine, but when using dynamic textFields with embedded fonts, everything is jacked. The font is Blender Pro Bold. Regular and Heavy work fine, but for some reason Bold is messed up. Is it just that there is a problem with the font?

Dec 23, 2011

I have a movieclip in my library named mcLeaderboarditem. I've generated a class for it to manage the textfields.

The easiest way is to make a child of the class and manage the contents properties with the dot-syntax like this (documentclass):

var leaderItem:mcLeaderboardItem = new mcLeaderboardItem();
leaderItem.lblRank.text = "2nd";
addChild(leaderItem);

Probably it will be something stupid because of tiredness. Or is there an other way to do what i'm trying to do?

I have a movie with a formatted TextField on it. When I print it using the printJob function (or the print(), printNum(), printBitMapNum() functions), most of the effects are not printed.For example: I have a textfield that is Arial Bold font, color of red, underlined, with a black DropShadow. The field looks great on my screen, but when I print it, the DropShadow is gone, the underline is very faint. I am alternately printing directly to Adobe and to an HP printer. The results are the same in either case.

Actionscript 3 :: Flash Cs5 - Embedded Fonts Not Appearing In Created Textfields?

Mar 22, 2012

I would like to preface this wall of text by saying, I am very new at this. I may be missing something obvious. I'm working in Flash CS5 with Actionscript 3. I'm trying to use actionscript to create a textfield, and populate it with text. I've embedded my font in my project using the "Font Embedding" window. However, when the code to create the textfield is run, if "embedFont = true;", the font is invisible. The cursor still changes when hovering over it, so I know it's there. Or at least its text box is, I guess. Dynamic textfields with embedded text which are already on the stage seem to be unaffected.

I've tried changing the embedded fonts outline format, neither work. I've tried directly embedding the font with the "embed" tag via actionscript, but it doesn't seem to work with CS5, or I don't know what I'm doing. As you can see in the code provided, I've tried "registering" the font, with no success. I've tried using:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Flash Placing Editable Textfields At The Cursor's Position

May 2, 2011

I've got a few questions for the technical side of a project we're working on and I'd really just like to know if it would be possible before I present it to the rest of my group. The idea is to create a wall on which the user can write down several words on their chosen locations (like a brainstorm), then click one of them to continue with it..

Is it possible to create an editable textfield at the cursor's position on a mouseclick and (if even needed) make it active so the user doesn't have to click twice? And then repeatable on multiple locations on the workarea..

I'm assuming the text autoresize function would still work and that I could add a random small rotation to it (It has to look like you're writing on a wall).

Then, on the next step, I'd like the user to be able to pick one and click on that to continue.

I'm guessing it involves creating a movieclip with a textfield in it and then load that from the library on the canvas on mouseclick.. What I'm most worried about is the user having to click twice to actually start typing..

ActionScript 3.0 :: TextFields Filled From A XML?

Nov 11, 2010

I've recently been trying to rebuild a project we did at work so that we'd have a better and more flexible architecture for future projects. So far all is done, and work great, but I've been wanting to make the text we use (and we use a lot) easier to modify, so I thought having it outside my Flash/ActionScript files would do it. That way, I can change the text and have it working without having to recompile.

Unfortunatly, I've noticed that having the text in a .txt file puts random linebreaks which I really don't like, but XML severely limits what characters we can put in our text (no " < and so on, unless I'm missing something). Not to mention linebreaks would/could be a pain in an XML.

So, I'm wondering if you guys would have any ideas on how to do this, or even tips on how to do it in an XML or txt file that would work.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Some TextFields Not Showing?

Basicly I'm adding dynamicaly sprites and textfields, which i populate from xml, in for loop. I'm building sort of table, so for every sprite, I'm adding new data in textfields. I've loaded xml and passed data to 2 xmllists, both traced and doing fine... Later on I add data from xmllist to array which then I'm looping in for loop.

Problem is that from 1st xmllist, 6 out of 7 textfields are visible, 1 can't be found nowhere :/ from the 2nd xmllist only 1 out of 4 are visible...

I've tried everything, tracing them returns that they are visible, on good position, filled with text, contrasted color from background...

Code:
for(mojbroj=0;mojbroj < dohvatiosamih2;mojbroj++){

ActionScript 2.0 :: Link 2 Textfields To Each Other?

I want to link two textfields, so that if the first one is fille the text continues in the second textfield. The text is loaded from a xml file. One option would be to use html tags so the text wraps around the picture, but as you'll see in the attached image, the picture has a border around it, so it will be hard for the client to update it.I know flashloaded has a component, but as far as I can see it only works for columns, in the past I had found another component that did what I want, but I can't seem to find it anymore, not on the net and not in my backups.

ActionScript 2.0 :: Positioning MCs And Textfields?

May 1, 2007

Here's my code:

Code:
for (var i = 0; i<nTotalPics; i++) {
main.createEmptyMovieClip( "container"+i, i );
var container:MovieClip = main["container"+i];
container.createEmptyMovieClip( "pic"+i, i );

[code]....

First, if I add "trace (pic._name);" inside the onLoadInit function it outputs "pic3,pic2,pic1,pic0". Why does it show up in reverse order of the for-loop?

Second, is the "pic:MovieClip" in "mclListener.onLoadInit = function(pic:MovieClip)" pointing to the "pic" in "mcl.loadClip( astrImages[i], pic );"? If not, what is it pointing to? If it is, can I add another variable after "pic" so that I can pass it inside the onLoadInit function? Ultimately what I would like to do is create a textfield under each pic.
