I've created a number of MC's dynamically. Inside each MC, there are 4 comboBoxes. Ok I can't find any doco on this and it's driving me crazy. Anyone know how you specify the default value for the V2 ComboBox component based on the selectedItem when you don't know the selectedIndex? Here's my scenario:
I have a hardcoded combobox called "dd_names" with 50 names in it. I'm returning a dataset into Flash via a SQL query, and onload I need the dd_names dropdown to default to the value of the name returned in the dataset. So if the query returns "Tom" I need the dropdown to default to "Tom."
I tried setting dd_names.selectedItem = "Tom" and dd_names.value = "Tom" and these don't work. The ComboBox just defaults to the first item in the list.However, if I use the selectedIndex property and set dd_names.selectedIndex = 3, the ComboxBox doesn't default to the first item in the list but shows the appropriate item. This doesn't help because I don't know the selectedIndex being returned from the query - I only know the selectedItem. Anyone know how to do this??

the value object is a custom class with some setters and getters, and I want to set a property based of the value of the selectedItem of the combo, so inside the value object I have something like this

my problem is that each time I change the combobox selection which in fact change the style property of the value object it does it 3 times, if I trace the value of the setter it actually do the trace 3 times, why?? how can I avoid this? I'm doing something wrong? or there is a better way to do it,

Shown in that image is my combobox, populated with data. The problem is that if I set the selectedIndex of the combobox to whatever value is in the corresponding cell, the user can no longer change the value of the combobox. What I mean is, you click on the combobox, a list appears to select from, but you can not select any item in that list.
I have a datagrid.In this datagrid I have a combobox item editor. This datagrid also has multiple columns where a user inputs numbers in each column. These numbers are then calculated by formula where the sum is posted in the "total" column. In this combobox there are two options for the user to choose from and each option has a different formula for calculating the inputted numbers. What I want is for when a user chooses "option 1" one formula is used to do the calculation, when "option 2" is chosen by the user then formula two is used to the calculation.Here's an example:

i inserted a dateField component.on clicking it displays calender, i would like to add 2 comboboxes, i shows hours(0 to 23) other for minutes (0 to 59) to calender so tht the user can select the time along with the date and that wil be displayed in the text input as date and Time. one more thing i would like to add is clear button to clear the selected date to the calender.
but how can i access the parent DataGrid or anything outside of this class ?In Java it can be done, but how can i pass any value to this class. My use case is that i click on a delete button and the row is deleted, impossible to do if i cannot access the parent DataGrid and call methods to work with it.
In my game currently I have a series of UILoaders which can be set to load a specific swf file inside the larger one. What Im trying to do is manipulate the 'child' swf file from the parent- in particular use the goToAndPlay() function. Im pretty sure Ive seen the solution before but I cant find it now.

They all have a certain amount of "health," defined as a variable in a MovieClip prototype applied to the MC. When they hit, I want their health to go down a little bit, so how can I access a particular MC's "health" variable while I'm outside of the MC itself?
I am trying to use a new script that uses XML to dynamically create a menu on the stage. Within the XML, I am establishing a function to use with that button. One button may just link to something on the web while another will simple display/hide a specific movieclip on the stage. I also have another button that I need to use to show any hotspots on the stage. Originally, I had the code on the instance of a static button on the stage and used a loop to get the items on the stage. Now, though, I have this "generic" Object() with a function called showHot. I have been playing around with using _parent, but can't figure out how to get to the items on the stage. All my hotspot movieclips' names start with "hs", so if I can just figure out how to loop through the items on the stage, I can check the names of those items.
I need to disable some buttons in a movie in level0. I manage to do that. but the thing is i have some other buttons inside a movieclip and i can't disable them... what should i do? how can i acess the buttons inside the movieclip to disable them? the code i'm using for the buttons in level0 is:

and for acessing the buttons inside MyMovieClip...?

I have a MC that is too tall for my stage and want to place it inside a ScrollPane. The probelm is accessing functions inside the MC. I have tried scrollpane.content.mc.function but that doesn't work. How do you access a mc inside tghe scrollpane?

I want to create a menu which is a mc on the mainStage, not inside anything. The menu itself has element inside it, so something like this mainStage»navMenu»navMenuClose. I want the action script on the mainStage, but it does not recognize the button navMenuClose. I want the actionscript on the mainStage because I also want the menu to hide after each function, just for navigation. (The close is incase you changed your mind) If I have the script inside the navMenu it does not recognize the menu, so I cannot hide it from there.
