In my game currently I have a series of UILoaders which can be set to load a specific swf file inside the larger one. What Im trying to do is manipulate the 'child' swf file from the parent- in particular use the goToAndPlay() function. Im pretty sure Ive seen the solution before but I cant find it now.
How make the connection from the UILoader class to its contents as a movieClip?
I have created a swf (exporting) that have action script that adds childs to the stage. When i export the file and see the result it is all ok. But when i use de same file inside a uiloader the action script seems not to work because de childs doenst apeear in the stage.

I gathered that it is most probably due to the fact that I have constructed a button in the improper way.I tried to redo a button but it was the same result.I would like to try to access it through the main timeline. What would be the whole block of code to put a function on the button located inside an external SWF which is called in via a UILoader?
I am trying to access a button inside an external swf file that I loaded. Problem is every time I try to access this button I get an error saying that it's null!
Here is my code:

Now this should work, code-wise I think its correct. The problem is that loader cant find the required button. There is indeed a button in the loaded movieClip with an instance name of "button", I double checked that.

I'm trying to understand how to build a button inside a movieclip. I have a template that has movieclips within movieclips, and when I create a button (all using AS2) the button will work if I test the scene, but in the whole flash movie it does not work. I also have some buttons located inside a ScrollPane that also do not call correctly.
For my button I am using this code:

- A.fla includes buttons, movie clips and also B.swf is loaded in A.fla using a LOADER
- i want to access elements in A.fla, from the actionscript codes inside B.fla to modify those movie clips and buttons based on actions going on in B.swf
for instance, lets say there is a button X in A.fla, and there is a button Y in B.fla, B.swf is loaded into A.fla, and I want the button Y to erase button X when clicked.

I am building a gallery inside of flash using the UILoader component and some buttons. UILoader is preloaded with p1.jpg.I have written script to allow the button to go to the next picture in the folder like so:[code]But instead of going through all the pictures sequentially it gets stuck on p2.jpg. It only advances after several clicks and then goes back to p2.jpg. Can anyone tell me why it is behaving like this? Thanks.
View 0 RepliesI'm writing a card game in AS3. The artist I'm working with has produced (in Flash CS4) a single swf-file containing all the card graphics and animations. The structure of the fla working file looks something like this:
- Scene
- CardGraphics (Movie Clip)
- CardFront
- CardBack
- CardValueImage (Movie Clip)
In the program I create 52 instances of my Card class, each having a MovieClip instance created from the loaded swf. The idea is to set the frame of the CardValueImage MovieClip to correspond to the Card instance's suit and rank member variables. However, I can't figure out how I access CardValueImage and call gotoAndStop (or whatever method I will need to call).

View 1 RepliesI want to distribute an SWF file to be run on computers, not the internet.However, I want to be able to access the internet through a link controlled by a button.This used to work, now I get a security warning telling me I need to change the settings on my computer.For obvious reasons I don't want to make every person who runs the swf file to have to do that!Under Windows I can create an EXE file that does not create the security warning, but on the Mac that won't help.

I need to be able to save some data to the SWF itself, NOT to the local computer.
To be more specific, I need to store a set of URL's, but they also need to be added by the file, so...
Lets say i have a button that when you click, will make a text box appear, and you type in some urls such as:

I then have a button that says "Save" and this will save these 3 URL's. I then would have the SAME SWF display these URL's (these will be URLs of Images). The important part is, these 3 URLs MUST BE READ by everyone who views the swf afterwards, so if I were to enter some URLS of Images, when someone else views the page, they will see the images that i entered. This is why it cannot be a cookie, as their computer will not see my cookie.
Even if the data cant be stored in the SWF itself, i will need some way to load this information where ever the swf is viewed.
I'm trying to achieve this result:[URL]... The menu stays the same size yet the background images scale proportionately. I'm assuming that the background is a uiloader?
Does anyone know the as3 code that will work for this? I've seen a very similar post on this forum, as a matter of fact I used his/her example.
Does anyone know how to create an action that will allow a text overlay to appear with the source image from a UIloader? I'm considering just editing the image itself to include the text but am hoping to reduce file size.

View 1 RepliesI'm creating a UI which utilizes UILoader component to load content that I won't have control of.The "window" where I want content to appear is 950 x 420. Doing a simple test, I created a .swf with a stage size that matched, but with content bleeding over the edge of the stage.To ensure users only see what's on the stage of the loaded content - and not what's bleeding off - would the correct action be to create a mask for the UILoader instance? Are there any alternatives to using a mask? Like a property or something? (I didn't see anything.)

I have a lot of external SWF files loading into my flash site using one UILoader on different labeled sections. I used only one UILoader component (with the same name) and then kept on scaling and repositioning it on different labeled sections. Everything worked fine until the very end for some reason some of the UILoaders jump to its own position and I can not seem to do anything about it. I can not figure out where the mistake could have been.

I'm having an issue with the UiLoader, I think. I am using a UiLoader to show the portfolio section of my website. When I click on portfolio there is nothing there. Brought UiLoader to stage from the component panel> in the component inspector I set the source to Portfolio.swf> Test movie> it works great. In dreamweaver I draged the swf from the folder panel and placed it in a table> uploaded it to the site> go to the site, and there is no portfolio section. See the site here -> [URL]. I noticed when I made changes and uploaded to the web then went to the site I have to delete internet history files to get the swf to reload. What do I do about that? Off the top of my head I thought about changing the swf name everytime I make any changes, but I'm sure there is another way.
View 3 RepliesI'm an application developer, and my standard usage of Flash is as follows: I'm creating an executable application, which contains a ShockwaveFlash object instance, which in turn is displaying a Flash Movie Clip - also created by myself. The executable application and the contained Flash clip are communicating via the ActionScript ExternalInterface (using XML strings) and the FSCommand.
I'd like to be able to debug the ActionScript code of the Flash file while I'm running/debugging my executable application. For that, I need to be able to start a remote debugging session from the Flash object running inside my executable. Problem is, I did not find any way of doing this.
When I publish the Flash SWF file with "permit debugging" checked, I'm able to start a remote debugging session when I'm displaying the file in a player or a browser (the "debugging" option is shown at the right-click menu of the Flash object), but I'm not able to do the same with the object inside my executable (the "debugging" option doesn't exist on the menu).
Environment Details: The executable application is using the ShockwaveFlash COM file to create the ShockwaveFlash object. The executable application is created using VB.NET, Visual Studio 2008, .NET 3.5. The Flash SWF file is created using Adobe Flash Professional CS4. I'm developing under Windows XP (SP3).
However, when I preview the flash catalyst swf file, the flash swf thats inside, plays just fine.

I am in the middle of creating a website using Flash CS5. I opened up my .Fla file one day to continue my work but I am no unable to access buttons and movie clips. When creating movie clips or buttons I am unable to get inside them, when I hover my mouse over them there is a white hand icon which never used to be there it was always just a normal mouse icon. I double click to enter inside the buttons/movie clips but nothing happens. This happens to existing movie clips and buttons on the page and even when I create new ones. I really don't wanna have to start this website again.
