Actionscript 3 :: Arrays : Dispacth An Event.CHANGE From An Array/Vector?
Sep 30, 2011I would like to subclass an Array or Vector to dispatch and Event.CHANGE when any elements value changes.

View 2 RepliesWhat is the most efficient way to empty an Array or Vector in ActionScript 3?I've always just re-initialized them:
vector = new Vector.<T>();
array = [];
It doesn't look like there's an empty() function or anything similar.
I am running into some trouble adding an array into another array to create a multi-dimensional array.The code appears as below:
var slideDataArray:Array = new Array();
var slideShowDataArray:Array = new Array();
slideDataArray[0] = xmlData.SlideShowParameters.SlideShowImagesDirectory;[code]........
I am looking for a means of placing the slideDataArray into a 'slot' or value of slideShowDataArray so that I can in the end pass the slideShowDataArray as a parameter to another function.As of now, the last slideDataArray appears 11 times (the loop runs 11 times) in slideShowDataArray and the way the code is written the slideDataArray is unique every iteration of the loop.
I want to arrange certain objects from a vector/array into a gird
Currently, I know how to do this during the creation of the objects.
Here's the grid function I've created:
function ArrangeInGrid(uiRow:uint, uiCol:uint, iOffsetX:int, iOffsetY:int):void
{
for(var i:uint = 0; i < uiRow; ++i)
{
[Code].....
Now I want to be able to apply the same logic of arranging objects in an array/vector in to a grid, how do I do it?
Or suggest a more efficient way to do so (if you have).
Notes:
I want it to be flexible in how many rows and columns the grid can have. The vector I'm using already has the cards in it. I can't just push the cards into the vector cuz of the way I manually created my cards.
1. Create Array of Items.2. Add or Delete i.e. push or pop items on Array .3. Update the datagrid with updated Array bottom line need to write and event listener on array . ihave seen this package available in flex but not in flash.
View 7 RepliesI would like to take advantage of all the goodness of the newer Vector class for FP10, but it seems it is marked as final. I am doing some intensive mathematical processing in Actionscript, and repeatedly process arrays of Numbers. I have previously been using my own subclass of Array(I call it NumericArray), with added functions such as sum(), mean(), add(), multiply(), etc. This works very well and allows for some clean OO code. However, I am finding through profiling that about 95% of my processing time occurs in the functions of these objects. I need more performance out of these arrays.
I want to use a Vector, as it provides some performance enhancements. I want to specifically use a Vector.<Number>. Unfortunately, I cannot subclass Vector as it is marked final. What is the best and cleanest way to imitate what I was previously doing with a subclass of Array, to a Vector.<Number>?
I have thought about passing around Vector.<Number> variables instead of my custom class and just using utility functions to manipulate, but this is not good OO design and will be a pain to use, not to mention ugly.
I'm passing a Javascript Array() to Flash via FlashVars but Flash complains. Can you guys point me what am I doing wrong here?

what's a simple way to combine arrays with as3? by combine, i mean that contents of one array are pushed into another array.I already tried a for loop and push.
View 6 Repliesi have two arrays of DesplayObjects and i want to add all the objects in the second array to the end of the first array, i knew that i just can just do a loop and puch em into the array, but i wondered if there was a simple function for doing this?

I get this actionscript from internet. I would like to change for a movieclip vector images..There is in site a fla. movieclip symbols... I try to change words to frame of symbols mc, but no sucess.

Why is it that I can never change a vector object's color? I mean I would think it'd be as simple as changing the fill color but that does nothing.
And why is it that copying and pasting vector objects from illustrator very inconsistent? Sometimes I get the exact copy, and other times their's three anchor points missing, very much screwing up the look of the object. Also, when I import a vector png image made in photoshop to flash, the fill is hollow at times.
1067: Implicit coercion of a value of type __AS3__.vec:Vector.<Foo> to an unrelated type Array.Really? Doesn't Vector include all the properties, methods and signatures of Array? Is there some low level reason Vector cannot be cast to Array?
View 2 RepliesSo I have this waky idea that I would put an array list (or list) or items inside a vector.
For example an array of fruit containing bananas, apples and oranges inside a vector of type fruit.
I could get the array list and thenwalk through it to get what I want.
I am working on a project that some one else created. There were very orgainized, but my question is this: There is a starburst shape, and in the property inspector it is labeling as yellow burst, and that's how it shows in the library. But one instance of it is red in the movie, and I can not find it to change or delete as they called everything dynamically. how this was done, or how I might locate this object?
View 3 RepliesI've run into a strange Vector out of range error when trying to splice a Vector array. The idea is to cut off the Vector array after a certain point....
var vec:Vector.<int> = new Vector.<int>();
vec.push(1);vec.push(2);vec.push(3);vec.push(4);vec.push(5);
vec.splice(3,vec.length); // output RangeError: Error #1125: The index 5 is out of range 5.
The strange thing is that it works perfectly, if I change the Vector to a regular array like:

I have a quick question for you all. I'm trying to convert over some ActionScript code to C++ and am having a difficult time with this one line:
private var edges:Vector.<Array> What is this exactly? Is this essentially a multidimensional vector then? Or is this simply declaring the vector as a container? I understand from researching that vectors, like C++ vectors, have to be declared with a type. However, in C++ I can't just put down Array, I have to use another vector (probably) so it looks like:
I don't expect you guys to know the C++ equivalent because I'm primarily posting this with AS tags, but if you could confirm my understand of the AS half, that would be great. I did some googling but didn't find any cases where someone used Array as it's type.

I've been working on this for a while, and thought I understood the BitmapData class at least well enough to do basic stuff with it, but I'm doing something wrong.
I'm trying to make a preload function that will load external JPEGs, store them in an Array as BitmapData objects, then distribute them to thumbnail objects after all the images are loaded. The thumbnails are based on an external class I wrote, which already has a function to accept variable data.
My problem is, I can't seem to find a way to store BitmapData objects in an Array. I've even tried using a Vector.<BitmapData> object, but I get the same result, which is no data stored.
Here's the function, isolated from the rest of the script.
[Code]....
The result of this function is supposed to be, a series of images loaded one after the other, stacked 5 pixels down from each other. However, the actual result is, only the last loaded image is displayed. That's true for any number I place in the 'for' loop, only the last loaded image gets displayed.
Obviously I'm doing something wrong with the loading of the 'bitBucket' BitmapData, because it seems to be writing over the previous BitmapData in the Vector series.
Below is a method to populate a vector with a list of strings

However, I have an existing array that contains a list of strings.How would I transfer those contents within the array into the vector?The basic way I can think of is using a for loop, and push the values in.

Code: langs = new Vector.<String>(["en","fr"]);I also need to load an arbitrary array into a vector, like this:

langs = new Vector.<String>(langlist);
Is there a way to do this?

If I have a rectangle which has a fill of blue and stroke of orange how can I change the stroke to black and the fill to red using actioncript.
When I use the following code it changes the entire rectangle to 0x008000 (green). Either the fill is covering the stroke or it is changing both the fill and stroke to 0x008000 (green).
var myColor:ColorTransform = myRectangle.transform.colorTransform;

How would I go about loading an array or vector with movieclips from the library?
View 1 RepliesI need to copy a 2 dimensional Array or Vector (8x8), the only success i have had so far is using 2x For loops actually assigning the primatives from one Array/Vector to another (works for 1 or 2, but on the scale i need to run this it is unsuitable).
After a bit of digging on the internet i saw that .concat() is the fastest and most code-efficient way to copy, but i can't seem to get it to work?
Here's what i'm doing:
Code:
var _squares:Array = new Array();
for (var i=0; i<8; i++)

I'm developing a small library and trying to outweigh the pros and cons of using Vector vs. Array. So far, I can only think of a few things to think of: Vector only works for FP10, while Array works for both 9 and 10. Vector is typed (which is a wonderful, fabulous thing), but if I'm only using the Array as a private variable, so I have full control over what goes in and comes out of it, this factor may not play as great a part anymore, but definitely great protection.
I believe I heard somewhere that Vector is a lot faster than Array, yet in a quick inconclusive speed test I did a while back, it didn't seem to make any real difference at all. Is Vector really faster than Array? If so, is it faster in all aspects, or only faster in certain situations just as uint is only faster than Number when using byteshifting?
