ActionScript 3.0 :: Add Eventlistener To A Child Movie Clip?

Sep 8, 2009

I have 2 movie clips, let's call them mcParent and mcChild. mcParent is a movie clip on the stage, and mcChild is a movie clip inside mcParent.I want to listen and execute a function (which is defined on the first frame of the stage), when mcChild is clicked. So I add the following script on the 1st frame of the main clip (stage):

Code:
mcParent.mcChild.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickChild);
function clickChild(e:MouseEvent):void
{
trace("click");
}

The clickChild function, however, is never called. So for whatever reason I am not receiving the event.

PS: I cannot add the event to mcChild. I know, that would be easy, but I need to have it this way, because when mcChild is clicked, I want to fade out mcParent (the clip that is on the stage).

Code:
this.slider.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, slideOvr);
this.slider.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, slideOut);

ActionScript 3.0 :: EventListener Inside MovieClip Not Responding?

Aug 9, 2009

I'm trying to create a fairly simple website entirely in flash. I have navigation on the left (Home, and Shapes) and when you click on Shapes, two things change: my main content called mcContent (which is a movieClip) changes to its second frame (called shapes) and you see a few shapes. Below the main content is another movieclip called mcBottom which does something similar, goes to it's second frame (called shapes) and you see two shapes, a red and green square.The problem is that I want the user to be able to click the red square and have the red square movieclip called mcRed go to it's second frame (called mcRedContent) but it doesn't work. I believe it has something to do with the hierarchy of my objects but I can't seem to figure it out. The error that I get when compiling is:Code:TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.at trouble_fla::mcBottom_4/frame1()Here is a link to the fla:

Actionscript 3 :: Adding EventListener To Inherited Property From Inside And Outside Of The Class

Dec 26, 2011

Reading a book i stumbled on this example:

Here is the class:

package com.learningactionscript3.loading {
import flash.display.Loader;
import flash.display.LoaderInfo;

[Code]....

What I deduce from this example is that the swfLoader.contentLoaderInfo and _ldrInfo = this.contentLoaderInfo refer to the same object in the same memory location. So you may think: "well the last added event will overwrite the first one (the internally one added). But it doesn't. The two event listeners will respond sequentially. First the internal listener and then the external listener.

Flex :: Activate An Application So The User Doesn't Have To Click Inside It To Start Getting Keyboard Events

Nov 26, 2010

My Flex application is heavily keyboard-oriented. It uses 100% of the browser window and I'd like the user to be able to start using it immediately - as soon as it loads. However, it seems that the application is only first "activated" (i.e. the activate event fires) when the mouse clicks somewhere inside it, which is very inconvenient for my keyboard-heavy app.

Can I force an activation of my app at some point during/after it loads? I hope I don't have to display some silly "click inside to activate" overlay every time the page loads..

In certain browsers ([cough] Chrome [/cough]) the focus is lost whenever the user switches away from the browser (or even touches the address bar) and is not regained when switching back. So the solution has to take in consideration not just the first focus when the page loads but also "re-focusing".

ActionScript 2.0 :: Inserting A MC As A Child Inside Another MC?

Jan 29, 2009

I'm making a basic photo slide show for a website I'm working on. I have the following in place and working:

- One movieclip (images_mc) preloads all of the images before the main slideshow movieclip (player_mc) begins

- player_mc contains photo_mc which is the container for the image that is currently playing...it is animated on the stage and everything is setup that I can insert the first image and play it, then insert the second image and play it again

- I have an array full of pointers to the images_mc instances of the photos (mc_array)

- I'm having problems inserting the content from images_mc into photo_mc...I've done the following:

ActionScript Code:
photo_mc.createEmptyMovieClip("placeholder_mc", photo_mc.getNextHighestDepth());
trace(photo_mc.placeholder_mc);
photo_mc.placeholder_mc = mc_array[photoCounter];

[Code]....

The assignment on line 4 is causing the placeholder_mc to be completely rewritten, instead of duplicating the content from images_mc and inserting it into placeholder_mc. How do I duplicate the content into the placeholder? I've tried duplicateMovieClip() several times, but it always returned UNDEFINED, so maybe I'm not doing it right?

How do I insert the preloaded images properly?
