Actionscript 3 :: Event Listener Added By A Weak Reference

Aug 29, 2011

My problem is basically as follows. There is an instance of a class extending EventDispatcher. Everything goes well when I add event listener to the object like this:

[Code]...

Now someFunction is not called even though the line containing dispatchEvent('eventName') is being executed just like before (and there is an external reference to myObject as well). The application I'm developing is quite complex so, unfortunately, I can't post the exact code.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Dynamically Added Event Listener?

Aug 29, 2010

I'll present my problem in a few steps:

- I have a constructor method which is trigerred automatically once the program starts
- The method's argument determines whether or not an enter frame event is to be added(move:Boolean = true)
- If true, add the event listener
- there are getters and setters created to access the variables from another class

The problem is that the event listener is run only once - at the initial phase, so it checks the move's value just once (true - add, false - don't add), so it can be turned on and off only in this class. I want to allow a user to change its value from an external class, which is impossible even with getters and setters, because it adds the listener before the user even gets a chance to change it. I want the listener to be added only if the user wants it to. I know it looks complicated,

ActionScript 3.0 :: Event Listener To Detect A Child Added To The Stage?

What is the correct event listener to detect a child added to the stage? I tried:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Video Freezes If Enter Frame Event Listener Is Added?

Oct 2, 2009

I'm having trouble getting the Video class to work.. Everything works fine until I try to add an on enter frame event listener to the movie. I basically want to overlay an effect that gets updated every frame but adding the event listener causes the movie to freeze before it loads or on the first frame or just shortly after starting play back.. Check out the source code at [URL]

It freezes even if the enter frame method body is commented out so I don't think it's because of extra overhead..

ActionScript 3.0 :: Which Listener Should Be Added To Text Field To Trigger The Change Event

Jul 7, 2011

I m using a dynamic text field in my app. I have added one Event.Change Listener on it. When I type into it with the keyboard, the event triggers. But when i set some text in it when user performs some action, like textfieldName.text = "test" then the event does not triggers. In this type of situation where we are not using keyboard, which listener should be added to text field to trigger the change event?

ActionScript 3 :: Weak Listener References Not Appropriate During Initialization?

Apr 19, 2010

As I currently understand, if an event listener is added to an object with useWeakReference set to true, then it is eligible for garbage collection and will be removed if and when the garbage collection does a sweep.

public function myCustomSpriteClass() //constructor {
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, mouseDownListener, false, 0, true);
this.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, mouseUpListener, false, 0, true);
}

In this case, is it not appropriate to initialize an object with weak references event listeners, incase the garbage collector does activate a sweep removing the objects event listeners since they were added during initialization of the object? In this case, would it only be appropriate to create a type of deallocate() method which removes the event listeners before the object is nullified?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Proper Use Of Weak Reference?

Jun 8, 2010

As I understand it if I set the weak reference param to true in my event listeners I don't need to worry about removing the listeners. I'm not really clear what would cause the listener to be set for garbage collection. I would hate to have a situation where the listener was removed before I wanted it to.

Flex :: Reference To ArrayCollection And Add Event Listener

May 26, 2010

collection.addEventListener(CollectionEvent.COLLECTION_CHANGE, onCollectionChange);
That's fine. Now some other component does have the same reference and is adding items to and removing items from that collection.

Each time the handler is called:
private function onProjectPersonsChange(event:Event):void {

ActionScript 3.0 :: MOUSE_OVER Listener Added In MyButton Class?

Jun 24, 2009

I am wondering if there is a better way to add MOUSE_OVER/MOUSE_OUT listeners to a whole host of objects in my project.

The example is that I am loading in lots of thumbnails for a portfolio viewer. Each thumbnail is an instance of ThumbnailUI Class. Inside ThumbnailUI, I have added both MOUSE_OVER and MOUSE_OUT event listeners. This means that when all of the thumbnail instances are added, I have lots of listeners active at one time. Is this OK? Is there a better way to achieve mouse events on all of these thumbnails?

ActionScript 3.0 :: Event Added To_stage And Event.removed_from_stage.?

Jan 10, 2011

I have created a flash file with animations, buttons and videos which will be uploaded to Zmags - (Digital publishing platform for flat pdfs) Everything is correctly set up on my flash file, and the .swf files work fine independently. Once uploaded to Zmags, when turning to a new page within the interactive pdf, the animations plays a small clip before the page is fully loaded. Once the page is fully loaded, the animations and buttons etc work as they should. I do not want this short clip of animation to run when the page loads.

Now I have been told that the solution will lie with: Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE and Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE.

I am informed that these event listeners will ensure the page is fully loaded before the animation plays.how to add these into my ActionScript,.I have the actions on the first frame of the timeline and have used frames to create a contents page, so when your mouse hovers over the pages numbers (buttons), different animations happen (which are contained in the frames) I have no clue what to do next to add Event.ADDED_TO_STAGE and Event.REMOVED_FROM_STAGE.

ActionScript Code:
one_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onebutton);
function onebutton(event:MouseEvent):void {[code]...............

Flex :: Reference An Entry Immediately After It's Been Added To A DataGrid

Aug 14, 2009

I have a drag-and-drop event form in a flex project. I need to run a validator right after the item is dragged into the dataGrid. In it, I fire off a function through dragDrop="verifyEventUsers()". In the validator, I compare the contents of the two arrayCollections, but it appears to be running the checks prior to completion of the drop. For instance, if I drag an element into the dataGrid and trace eventUsers.length inside the validator, I get zero. When I drag the second element, it traces as one even though two lines now appear.

How can I set up a validation script that runs after the drag-drop action has finished?

Actionscript 3 :: Reference MovieClip After It Is Added To Stage As A Child

Nov 22, 2011

I am currently having problems referencing a MovieClip child which I add to the Stage from the Document Class. Basically when the MovieClip child is added to the Stage from the Document Class, I want a certain MovieClip already on the Stage to reference it once it is on the Stage.

Also, if it is possible, I don't want the MovieClip referencing the child being added to the Stage to have parameters linking it with the Document Class, because I plan on nesting this MovieClip within another MovieClip later on in the future.

Here is the code for the MovieClip class which is referencing the child once it is added to the Stage:

ActionScript 3.0 :: Proper Listener On Tween Event Inside Mouse Event

Feb 23, 2011

My stage has about 25 buttons on it. Each button when pressed to tweens the background to some random x/y coordinates and then loads an external swf file.This is all working, but the timing is off. How can I wait for the initial background tween to end before I make the loader call to the .swf file.Currently each button's behavior is called on the MouseEvent.CLICK event which calls a function that knows its unique filename.swf. I know you can add the MOTION_FINISH even to the tween event but then I would have to call a new function and lose track of the button that initially called it.

Actionscript 3 :: Use The Same Event-listener Callback For Multiple Event Types?

This might be more of a subjective question, but is it generally best practice to have one dedicated method per event-types that you add an event-listener?

Such as:

myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OVER, onMouseOver);
myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_OUT, onMouseOut);
//Somewhere else in the code...

And if you had a MouseEvent.MOUSE_UP, MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN and other relevant MouseEvents event-listeners to watch for, you could even set a switch statement to handle all the various MouseEvent types.
