If i use i+"something" then it can get the i value, but other than that it could not get i value.
if i have mc duplicated or an object instance name thats stored inside a variable how can i call it? for ex: _root.mov1._x = 53; What if i want instead of mov1 a variable name. lets say randomname is a var and it holds the name of a duplicated object with a name i dont know since its random. now how can i call it just like the example above cause i tried

Basically the equivalent to breaking apart the text field, then converting each letter to symbols, then giving each letter its own unique name This is the way I'm doing it now and its very time consuming and not at all easy to update to text.The second part is to create an array containing all the instant names.For example if the text was "hello world", the function would create symbols with called n1 (containing h) , n2 (containing e) , n3 (containing l), n4 (containing l), n5 (containing o), and then the array would be [n1,n2,n3,n4,n5]

On the over state I have changed the colour of the text and in the properties inspector typed in the email commanAnyway the text becomes underlined and when I test the movie and mouseover the text jumps up a little and is not smooth. I was originally going to put one clip per frame in the master timeline and have some sort of pause sequence to play them one after another. What I ultimately want to accomplish is to have these clips play one after the other without having to click any buttons, so basically straight through.

It is in the library and the video plays when i test the movie on my laptop, however, I have now uploaded the .swf file website to a host along with the video and it isn't playing. View 9 RepliesI'm making a presentation in Flash that needs to be put on a DVD, which we will given to people in my organization to view at home. The presentation will not contain any interactivity. It will have text, music, video, and narration.
The videos will be short and contain sound, should I embed them in the fla file? I planned to break the presentation into scenes to make it easier to manage, and so they'll just play one after another. My computer can burn DVDs, so I was just going to export the swf to DVDS.
Assume the main time line is A. On A I've got movie clip Z also On A . I've got movie clip B and inside B I've got a movie clip C (I need it to be this way because it soft of a TAB meanu).My problem is the actionscript written in C makes few objects called planet 1, planet 2, planet 3 on A function well. But when I move planet 1, planet 2, planet 3 to a movie clip (planets_mc) it won't function! How can I put planet 1,2 and 3 in to one mc and still make the actionscript in C work?I've used the _root. command in the script C. Hope my question is clear enough!

Inside I have:
myText1=This is test 1.
&myText2=This is test 2.
I tested it out with my dynamic text. If I made the variable myText1, it loaded the first line. If I made it myText2, it loaded the second line. All seemed to be fine.
I have a dynamic textbox, variable named names. I want to be able to change the variable in order to get it to load whichever line of text I want.
I tried:
names = myText1;
loadVariablesNum ("my_text.txt", 0);
But that's not working. I've tried playing around with it in various ways, like
names = eval(myText1);
and such, but nothing is effectively getting it to change. I've been trying to look it up and tried all the different ways people told other people to use, but it's not working for me.
Once I get this work I everything should fall into place easily.
Passing Text Variabes to a form PHP script for emailing.If a user makes a number of selections from visual indicators on frame 1 of a Flash 8 file and textual descriptions of those selections are then actionscripted into dynamic text boxes as text values in a form on frame 2, can the text values of the dynamic text boxes be given variable names that can be sent to and processed by a server side PHP script as regular input type text box variables would be processed?
Example:
User selects 3 images on frame 1 via a mouse on(release) event.
the actionscript being:

On the form frame (frame 2) would be a movie clip (form_mc with instance name form) with the normal Name, Email, Message input type text boxes along with dynamic text boxes dynamicTextBox1, 2 and 3.On the form Submit button the actionscript would be:

Would this work? All indications I have seen through many Flash/PHP email tutorials indicate not using dynamic text boxes but components like combo boxes etc use variables and not input boxes.

I want to import the variables from the text file.I can do that, but I also want to create a loop that will iterate through the text file and create the variables. I have a main timeline that has movie clips showing images of different options for the product.On the first frame, I use buttons to select the choice for option 1 from the Option1_mc.Then I store the choice in a variable.I use a button to go to the next choice (frame 10.)
On frame 10, I use buttons to select the choice for option 2 from the Option2_mc.This is stored in another variable.
There are about 10 options that are selected and stored in variables.Some are text values and others are instances of images from the Option movie clips.
I made a Print_mc to use for printjob.I can't get the values of the variables to display in the first frame for printing.

I'm not new to Flash or AS3 but I've never really made anything too complex. I'm making a Flash game and getting to know Variables for the first time. The tutorials online confuse me because they're mostly geared towards AS2 and I bought this book (which is awesome) Game Design with Flash, but it only covers variables involving numbers and a guessing game.
All I want right now is a field to enter your name and below, whatever the user has entered, will show up in a Dynamic text field that will go, "Oh, so your name is (whatever)?" I understand that the information that the user types into the Input Text Field has to be entered in somehow, so do I need to make a function to make it work with a button? Right now I can type in the Input but nothing shows up in the Dynamic text field. I borrowed an AS3 example from elsewhere on this forum and added my own Instance names. I also wanted to know, how can I call up the user's name throughout the game? Just calling that same variable up?

Underneith the images of the characters and bg's is a sentence that gets filled out after you make your choices, ie "One day, [character name] went to the [lbackground name]."
I also need to have the character name and background name different colours from the rest of the text, is there a way to hook up a css file to give just those words different properties from the rest of the text?
