If I were to have a list box component on screen which had an event listener to get changes, when navigating away from the current screen, is it a good idea to remove any listeners that exists in that frame? If so, what is the best way to do it.
the situation | an instance of the DateChooser component reads an xml file which houses info for homework assignments and their due dates. if there is a due date, make sure that date is highlighted on the DateChooser component. from what i've been told, the xml file stores urls which will tell if there is s/thing due on a particular date. the xml file | very simple, has an <activity> element with a 'date' attribute, i.e.

my remaining questions | What needs to happen as soon as the xml file is loaded? i.e. do i call a function which parses the xml data and puts it into an array? then the DateChooser component iterates thru the array looking for boolean values noting if there is an activity or not and if so, on which day. if it finds one, it sets its highlight property to true for that particular day. i'm setting up the xml file correctly.
The fastforward and rewind buttons on the FLV Playback components don't work like normal ones. If you've tried to use them you'll notice that they respond to a click event rather than a mouse_down event.
By taking apart one of the skins I've found that the fast forward movie clip is forward_mc.

I have flash project (ActionScript 3), which has a several frames. Each frame contains some unique controls (buttons, textInputs, etc) with unique ids. I want to add event listeners to these controls:
I don't know, how to define time, when AddResource will be loaded, after gotoAndStop. I tried to use setTimeout - it works sometimes and makes unwanted delays. So it is bad idea, in my opinion. Each frame has a lot of controls, they might be changed in future - so, I don't want to use this way (Get MovieClip in another frame). If it is possible, I want to keep ActionScript code in *.as files, not on timeline (flash cs5: when I change frames in a movieclip, event listeners pointed to one object in the previous frame are removed).
I have written code to read an XML file by using URLRequest and URLLoader in ActionScript 3.0. Code is pasted below. This runs well in AS3.Problem I am facing is because I wrote this in AS3, I am not able to use the DateChooser component in another part of the flash module because it seems like DateChooser component is not supported in AS3. The AS2 DateChooser has just the functionality I need to build the events calendar that I have to build .. however .. while I know what to do in theory, I'm stumbling on (a) whether it will work and (b) syntax.
I want to display an instance of the DateChooser (myDate) and access the selectedDate property when the user selects a date. Then I need to pass it to the main events page preferably on the same page with something like this:
SELECT EventTitle. EventDescription, EventLink FROM Events WHERE EventDate = MMColParam
MMColParam 1 myDate.selectedDate
The page itself is ASP. I am thinking I would probably define a variable and perhaps use LoadVars to load the selected date from Flash .. not something I have done before.

I'm sure that's not the syntax .. but I think that is the theory. I should be able to access the selectedDate property of the Date Chooser instance and feed the date into the query to select the events on that date and list them.
If you have a DateChooser control next to a text control and you left click your mouse to select the text then continue holding down the mouse button and letting the mouse button up while over the datechooser control, the selectedDate value changes to the date you are hovering over. I have users that are having issues with this and it happens unintentionally because of the proximity of the two controls. I cannot find a way to stop this effect. Basically I would want the selectedDate to only change if the user actually clicks the calendar control ie. mouseDown or click. Calling functions in those events do not change this behavior. I need a way to disable the control from changing the date on the mouseUpEvent (I think).
I have a custom component based on mx:ComboBox. Within it I connect to an HTTPService (the url is passed as a paramter) and bind the combobox. Parameters to be sent to the HTTPService are passed to the component. This is working fine. But I want to modify it to make it re-usable with other HTTP service URLs, which return the XML in a different format.

I've developed a component which is a combination of a few items (canvas, labels, etc...) but when I try to bind it to a variable such as: {stationXML.getItemAt(1).AAA.@value}, it doesnt work. Before I combined all the items in a component, they were all in the main MXML file at which time they worked. Not sure if it matters, but the "stationXML" arraycollection variable is declared inside the file "Station.as".

On the DateChooser component, it shows the days for only the current month... but i'd like to show some of the previous month's days and some of the next month's days.Is there a property to set on the DateChooser component to show 42 days. I mean, to show some of the previous month's days + the current month's days + some of the next month's days. I just recently been using a lot of prototype javascript stuff, and was wondering there was anything like the "bind" method, for use in AS3. It's proved quite useful to be able to look both at the event.target as well as the class object the handler function might be associated with.
How do you bind an event listener from the controller to the view's elements eg button (click event) to its own handler? Originally I was doing this from the view eg. button.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, controller.buttonClick); But now realise this is wrong since reading "each view is only supposed to "know" about the model which it represents, and "know" nothing of the controller"

MySWF loads without problem. It doesn't really returns the class mySWF so I wonder if this is really the right syntax. And actually I don't receive anything. I am of course dispatching custom event from mySWF. Flash seems really a nightmare to cope with custom events in practice compared to other platforms.
I am trying to learn JavaScript and I am wondering whether JavaScript has a event listener just like ActionScript's ENTER_FRAME. Basically, I want this event listener to listen "all the time" not just wait for any particular instance (mouse click, keyboard event) of event.

I have an event listener applied to an xml load and it currently traces out the values it grabs which is fine, but what I want it to do is return an array for me to use.
