Actionscript :: Cannot Find Referenced MovieClip In Parent.insertMovieClip()?

Apr 6, 2012

orgive me if there is an extremely simple answer to this question. I am currently updating a series of .fla files that someone else created. Within one of the symbols is the following code: this.insertMovieClip("symbolName","objectReferenceName",5);

I understand what the code is doing, or rather what it would do normally. It would find a symbol named symbolName in the library, and create an instance of it named objectReferenceName inside this MovieClip.The problem is that I have searched the library, and I can't find anything named symbolName. It doesn't exist.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Error 1120: Access Of Undefined Property Parent + Movieclip(parent)?

Mar 15, 2011

I am trying to access a function that is on my document class for my AS3 project, from a nested class. That is, the Document Class calls Class A which then calls Class B. So I am trying to access a function from Class B, I am trying to use MovieClip(parent).function(); but I am getting error 1120. The MovieClip(parent) (fixed to reflect my document class, etc) works when I try it from other classes but not from this nested class.

ActionScript 3.0 :: Can't Find Parent For RemoveChild?

Oct 25, 2009

I can't seem to use removeChild.  Basically this is what happens.From the Document class, or another movieClip class, I can addChild (movieClip) fine but when I go to remove them I get ArgumentError: Error #2025: The supplied DisplayObject must be a child of the caller.
even if I go: myMov.parent.removeChild(myMov) or (getChildByName(MyMov)) or anything it always either gives the above error or  in the case of using .parent: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.

Also using trace() to find out what the parent is it always says [ object     DocClassName] and the docClass seems to return the right amount of child MovieClips.  Heres my code snippet:[code]....

Do I need to create some sort of Stage for all child MovieClips to belong to?

Professional :: Find A Child's Location In Parent's Coordinate Space

Jul 21, 2010

I've created a map of Montana counties. Each county is a seperate MC withing the larger parent clip (allcnt_mc). When a county is clicked on, I'd like to center that county on the stage and zoom to its extent. The challenging part has been telling the parent (allcnt_mc) where to tween to. Since each individual county is a child of the parent, they have their own coordinate space referencing that of the parent.

Is there a way I can query the location (x,y) of a child in the parent's coordinate space? With this number, I could calculate the distanct between the parent's current reg. point and that of the child, indicating the distance that the parent would have to move to be centered on the stage. I was trying to use localToGlobal but could not figure out how to use it.

Flash :: Find The Parent Of A Deep-nested Sprite From The Stage?

Jan 21, 2011

I'll give a complete explanation of what I'm trying to do. I have a video player as a separate SWF. In this video player I have a VideoContainer class extending Sprite, which contains the video and a control bar with specific video buttons.

This SWF is loaded in another main SWF, which has a menu that is on top of everything else. When I click "Fullscreen" in the video SWF, everything goes smoothly, except the menu remains on top of the VideoContainer object.

I need a way to change the display order of the loaded SWF, to put it on top of everything else on Fullscreen and change it back when Fullscreen goes off. All this needs to be made inside the video player. Also, the configuration of the children can change (the video player can be loaded in different places in the main SWF), so I can't use a certain unchanging path.

The effect I'm trying to create is I want to position the GameStage so that the currently selected soldier appears in the center of the GameClicker clip.The GameStage is movable by the player (to scan other areas of the map)by holding the CTRL key, so it's easy to kinda lose track of where your players are.I have tried using localTo Global and globalToLocal techniques, but I think I'm lost on the actual math of getting the GameStage to move the correct distance so that the selected soldier is centered to the GameClicker.[code]

ActionScript 3.0 :: Changing Referenced Variables Inside Of Array

My issue is that when I edit the variable inside the array, it is not changing the actual variable that was assigned to it. See Below for example.

Actionscript Code:
var myVar1:uint = 1;
var myVar2:uint = 2;var myVar3:uint = 3;
var myArr:Array = new Array(myVar1, myVar2, myVar3);
for(var a:uint = 0; a<myArr.length; a++){
if(a == 0){ myArr[a] = 9;
}}trace(myVar1); // Still traces "1" instead of "9"

ActionScript 2.0 :: [FMX] Controlling Playback Of Dynamcially Referenced Movieclips

Mar 4, 2005

I'm basically making a step-by-step tutorial. There is a nav section of just 2 buttons, one for the "previous step," and the other for the "next step."

Just to make it easier (or maybe not...) I've named all instances of my movieclips "mc1" "mc2" etc... And I've created ActionScript that notes what "page" you're on, and using a for loop, makes the movieclip that corresponds to the current page (page #2 >> mc2) visible while at the same time making every other movieclip invisible. I've got all of that working properly.

What I need to fix is... Say you view the first step's movieclip, and you go on to the next step, but then want to go back to the previous step to watch it again... What you'll see is the last stopped frame of that movieclip rather than seeing the entire animation over again.

You'll be able see what it's doing in the code...

Code:
stop();
// Declare variables
pageNumber = 1;
maxPageNumber = 12;

[Code]....

I know that I can use setProperty to reference something like "mc"+i, but can I do the same thing with play()? Obviously "mc"+i.play(); doesn't work...
